Five watches in Monochrome Watches’ July 2024 guide are built around the ETA/Peseux 7001, but they do not all use it the same way. Two of them, the Baltic Prismic and the Furlan Marri Disco Volante, are described with the 7001 itself. The Louis Erard Excellence Regulator uses the 7001 with an added regulator module. The Holthinrichs Deconstructed and the Ludovic Ballouard Upside Down take the 7001’s architecture or gear-train as a starting point and rebuild the movement substantially, so they should not be treated as stock 7001 watches.
How directly each watch uses the 7001
The most useful way to read the guide is to sort the five models by how much of the original movement survives in the finished watch. Monochrome Watches’ guide describes the first three as using the 7001 directly or with a module added, and the last two as reinterpretations.
- Direct use: Baltic Prismic (ETA Peseux 7001), Furlan Marri Disco Volante (manually wound Peseux calibre 7001 with redesigned bridges and hand-finished components).
- Direct use with an added module: Louis Erard Excellence Regulator (ETA Peseux 7001 with the Louis Erard RE9 module).
- Architecture or gear-train as a base for a reworked movement: Holthinrichs Deconstructed (in-house calibre HW-M01 with Peseux 7001 gear-train architecture) and Ludovic Ballouard Upside Down (in-house B01 movement based on the Peseux 7001 architecture).
The movement itself
In the guide’s examples, the ETA/Peseux 7001 is a manually wound, time-focused movement. The guide gives it a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and a 42-hour power reserve, and it presents the calibre as compact and slim. Baltic’s product page for the Prismic gives the movement a thickness of 2.5 mm, which helps explain why the calibre appears in slim watches.
ETA’s technical document listing for the basic 7001, catalogued as CT_7001_ESI_534659_00 and dated 25 November 2011, confirms that an official assembly document exists for the calibre. The listing itself does not reproduce a full specification, so the figures below are the guide’s and Baltic’s published numbers rather than values checked against ETA’s full documentation. The listing is available at ETA’s technical document listing.

The five watches
1. Baltic Prismic: the most accessible direct use
The guide calls the Prismic the sensible, lower-price option in the group. It has a 36 mm by 9.2 mm case, sapphire crystal on both the front and back, and 30 m of water resistance. Colours mentioned include purple, green, salmon and grey-blue. The guide reported EUR 990 on leather and EUR 1,050 on a mesh bracelet, as of 21 July 2024. Baltic’s Prismic Grey blue product page independently states that the watch is powered by the Peseux 7001 and gives a 9.2 mm profile and 2.5 mm movement thickness. The product page is undated, so the current collection, configuration and price should be checked on Baltic’s site before purchase.
2. Louis Erard Excellence Regulator: the 7001 with a regulator module
The Excellence Regulator has a 40 mm polished steel case, 50 m water resistance, and a regulator display. The regulator layout places the minutes at the centre, the hours at 12 o’clock and the seconds at 6 o’clock, with an additional power-reserve display. The guide identifies the movement as an ETA Peseux 7001 fitted with the Louis Erard RE9 module, and it reports 21,600 vph and a 42-hour power reserve. The listed price in the 2024 guide was CHF 2,245. That figure and the model’s current specifications should be confirmed with the maker, because the watch is not a bare base movement and its module is what sets its display apart.
3. Furlan Marri Disco Volante: a direct 7001 with redesigned bridges
The Disco Volante has a 38 mm by 8.95 mm steel case, sapphire crystals on both sides and 50 m of water resistance. Its dial shows hours and minutes at the centre with small seconds. The guide describes a manually wound Peseux calibre 7001 with redesigned bridges and hand-finished components, with a stated 42-hour power reserve. The 2024 guide listed CHF 2,500 across three colour combinations. Current editions, availability and price were not confirmed for this article, so check them with Furlan Marri before relying on the figure.

4. Holthinrichs Deconstructed: a reworked movement, not a stock 7001
The Deconstructed is the most extensive departure from the original calibre in the guide. Its case and bracelet are 3D-printed grade 5 titanium, measuring 38.5 mm by 9.8 mm, and the dial is openworked. The guide describes calibre HW-M01 as developed in-house, using the Peseux 7001 gear-train architecture with laser-cut components and hand finishing. It is a 20-piece limited edition. The guide’s EUR 35,000 figure is before tax and reflects 2024 pricing. The watch is best understood as a new movement that borrows the 7001’s layout rather than a 7001 with changed parts.
5. Ludovic Ballouard Upside Down: an unusual display on a 7001-based architecture
The Upside Down uses an in-house B01 movement based on the Peseux 7001 architecture. Its jumping-hour mechanism turns two hour discs each hour, so the time is read differently from a conventional three-hand watch. The guide reports 228 components, approximately 40 hours of power reserve, a 41 mm case, and gold or platinum options. The CHF 83,000 base price is historical context from the 2024 guide, and the guide notes that bespoke configurations can cost more. Readers should treat this model as a complication watch built on the 7001’s architecture, not as a standard 7001 watch.

Checking before you buy
The prices and model details in this guide date from 21 July 2024, and they have not been verified for current availability. Use the following checks before comparing any of these watches:
- Confirm the current price, colour options and bracelet configuration with the maker or an authorised retailer.
- For the Baltic Prismic, check Baltic’s product page for the current collection and specifications.
- For the Louis Erard, confirm that the regulator module and power-reserve display are still part of the model you are considering.
- For the Holthinrichs and the Ballouard, treat the prices as historical context, since the limited edition or bespoke options may no longer be offered.
- Read the original guide for the full list of specifications: Monochrome Watches, Robin Nooy, “Five Watches From Affordable To High-End Relying On The Humble Peseux 7001,” 21 July 2024.
The guide’s standfirst calls the calibre “capable of great things.” That is the author’s editorial view and not a measured test result. The figures in this article are product specifications and publication-era prices, not independently tested results.
