Casio’s F-B100W pairs an F-91W-inspired design with Bluetooth and activity tracking, but the original F-91W’s mass-market appeal rests on more than its looks: it is inexpensive, simple and rated for about seven years on one battery. The F-B100W could be a more appealing successor for buyers who want basic tracking, but a launch sellout does not show that it can match the original’s decades of reach.
What is the Casio F-B100W?
The F-B100W is a new Casio digital watch styled after the F-91W. Current product coverage reports Bluetooth connectivity and activity tracking, including step counting. That makes it a connected watch with a familiar Casio look—not simply an F-91W reissue.
Coverage reported a Japanese launch price of ¥8,800 and a UK listing at roughly £55 for an August 2026 model. It also reported that the initial Japanese allocation sold out quickly. Those are regional price and launch signals, not proof of broad availability or continuing demand. Check Casio or an authorized local retailer for current stock, local warranty terms and the price in your market. T3’s F-B100W report is the source for those launch details.
The available product coverage does not establish every connectivity function, the final battery specification, or the full regional compatibility requirements. Do not assume that the F-B100W synchronizes time over Bluetooth, has the F-91W’s battery life, or works with a particular phone or app without checking the relevant regional product listing or manual.

Why is the F-91W so hard to replace?
The F-91W is widely regarded as the best-selling traditional wristwatch, but its appeal is practical as well as nostalgic. Casio says the design has remained essentially unchanged since its 1989 launch. Its US product information lists a weight of about 21 g, thickness of about 8.5 mm, and approximately seven years of battery life from one CR2016 cell, alongside an alarm, calendar, stopwatch, LED light and basic water resistance. Casio’s F-91W page describes the watch and its core features.
It also works without an app, account, pairing process or charging cable. That frictionless ownership is a meaningful part of its value: the watch remains useful as a watch without depending on phone software or ongoing connectivity. Adding activity tracking makes a watch more capable, but also gives its owner more to set up and maintain.

- AN ICON SINCE 1989 — THE WORLD'S MOST POPULAR DIGITAL WATCH — Introduced in June 1989 as a successor to the F-87W, the F-91W is popular for its low price, long battery life, and iconic design. As of 2026, production of the watch has reached 100 million units, making it the most sold watch in the world. A timeless design, unchanged since launch, that has earned a global cult following across generations.
- FEATHERLIGHT & SLIM — Urethane resin is employed for the case and band, and the module features a reduced number of components — every element of construction was reconsidered to secure high quality at an affordable price, resulting in a global hit watch that offers both affordability and long-lasting reliability. The case measures 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5mm and weighs just 21 grams — barely noticeable on the wrist.
- 1/100-SECOND STOPWATCH WITH SPLIT TIME — The 1/100-second stopwatch covers elapsed time, split time, and 1st-2nd place timing up to 59'59.99" — precise enough for sports, training, cooking, and any timed activity. Handy features for day-to-day life also include a daily alarm, water resistance, and LED light functions.
- DAILY ALARM | HOURLY CHIME | AUTO-CALENDAR | LED LIGHT — Module 593 delivers functions for a daily alarm, chronograph/stopwatch, annual calendar, and hourly chime, with selectable 12 or 24-hour format. The auto-calendar and LED backlight round out a complete, practical feature set in a package that fits any wrist from 145 to 200mm.
- 7-YEAR BATTERY | MODULE 593 | 18MM LUG WIDTH — Powered by a CR2016 battery with an approximate 7-year life — often lasting 10 or more years in practice. The F-91W has an 18mm lug width, meaning standard 18mm NATO straps fit directly without any modification — making it one of the most customizable and mod-friendly watches available at any price point.

The F-B100W’s tracking makes it the more interesting option if you want activity data on your wrist. It does not, on the evidence available, establish a broader health-monitoring package. There is no basis here to promise GPS, heart-rate or sleep monitoring, notifications, calls, payments, or smartwatch-style apps. Nor is there independent evidence here to judge step-count accuracy.
Which watch makes more sense for you?
Choose the F-91W for simple, low-maintenance timekeeping
- You want a basic digital watch with an alarm, calendar and stopwatch.
- You would rather avoid phone pairing, apps and charging.
- You value a long stated battery life and a lightweight, familiar design.
- You do not need activity data from your watch.
Consider the F-B100W for retro style with basic tracking
- You like the F-91W look but want activity tracking as well.
- You prefer physical-button digital-watch styling to a screen-led smartwatch.
- You are comfortable with a higher price and the possibility that connected features depend on a phone app.
- You want casual activity monitoring, not established advanced health analysis.
Before buying, verify the F-B100W’s battery type and claimed life, water-resistance rating, phone and operating-system compatibility, whether data is stored when the phone is away, app and account requirements, strap availability and local warranty. Casio’s existing CASIO WATCHES app listing shows that the company supports Bluetooth-linked functions on some models, but it does not by itself confirm F-B100W compatibility.

Consider a fitness band or smartwatch for deeper tracking
If your priority is richer health data, sleep tracking, GPS, notifications or a broad app ecosystem, compare fitness bands and smartwatches on those needs. The F-B100W’s appeal may be its conventional watch shape and simpler experience, but there is not enough evidence here to rank its tracking performance against dedicated wearables.
Is “the best-selling watch in the world” a fair comparison?
It is safest to describe the F-91W as widely regarded as the best-selling traditional wristwatch. The exact lifetime total is not clearly documented on Casio’s current US F-91W page; claims of more than 100 million should therefore be treated as commonly reported figures, not as an audited total established by that page.

- Water Resistant, LED light
- Stopwatch, Daily alarm, Hourly time signal
- Calendar, 12/24-hour format
- Approx. battery life: 7 years on CR2016
- Case diameter: 30.0 millimeters
Smartwatch comparisons use different categories and metrics. A single conventional watch model’s lifetime sales are not directly comparable with annual shipments across a smartwatch category or the sales of a product family. Apple does not publish a straightforward cumulative Apple Watch total that settles such a comparison. IDC’s wearable-market data tracks market activity, but category shipments are not the same as lifetime sales of one watch model. Production, shipments and units bought by customers are distinct measures.

As a mass-market bestseller: no evidence yet
A fast sellout in Japan can signal launch interest, but it can also reflect a limited first allocation or collector demand. It says little about repeat sales or global reach. The F-91W has had decades to build recognition and distribution, while the F-B100W’s reported price is several times the original’s typical budget-watch positioning. To challenge that scale, the new model would need sustained demand, broad international availability, an affordable stable price, long-term reliability and accessible replacement straps or parts—not just a successful launch.

As a modern reinterpretation: a plausible opening
The F-B100W’s strongest case is narrower: it could suit people who want Casio’s retro styling, physical buttons and a conventional watch shape, with basic activity tracking and fewer smartwatch features. That could make it a useful bridge between a simple digital watch and a fitness band. Whether it becomes culturally influential or keeps attracting buyers beyond its launch period remains to be seen.
Check availability before paying a premium
The reported Japanese and UK prices do not establish official availability, pricing or warranty coverage elsewhere. If the watch is not listed locally, an imported unit may bring shipping costs, taxes, reseller markups, different documentation or a warranty that is harder to use. Confirm the seller’s authorization, return policy, regional app compatibility and warranty before buying; scarcity pricing is not evidence of lasting demand.
For an F-91W buyer who simply wants a reliable, inexpensive digital watch, the original remains the more straightforward choice. For someone who wants that visual language with activity tracking and accepts connected-device trade-offs, the F-B100W may be the more compelling purchase. If step accuracy, battery life or durability is decisive, wait for complete regional specifications and independent reviews rather than inferring performance from the design or launch response.
