If you want Casio’s aluminum-bezel diver style on a steel bracelet, choose the MDV-107D. The Duro MDV-106 is the lighter, resin-band alternative, while a G-SHOCK Frogman is the appropriate step up when you need documented ISO-standard diving construction and dedicated dive functions. Standard 20-bar G-SHOCK models are suited to active water use, but their water-resistance rating alone does not make them professional scuba watches.
The crucial distinction is certification and intended use, not the headline depth figure. Casio lists both MDV models at 200 m (20 bar), yet the available product information does not state ISO 6425 certification for either. Frogman models explicitly document ISO-standard 200 m diving water resistance.

Which Casio aluminum-bezel diver should you buy?
Buy the MDV-107D if your priorities are a stainless-steel bracelet, an aluminum bezel, conventional analog hands and a date window. Choose the MDV-106 Duro if you prefer a lighter case, a resin strap and the established Duro platform. Choose Frogman when the watch must have a documented diving specification and functions such as dive timing or log storage.
These are not interchangeable choices. The MDV-107D and MDV-106 are straightforward battery-powered analog watches with diver-style controls. Frogman is a separate G-SHOCK diving family with model-specific digital or analog-digital tools, stronger shock-oriented construction and explicit ISO diving documentation.

What does the Casio MDV-107D offer?
A full-metal everyday layout
The MDV-107D uses a stainless-steel case and bracelet with an aluminum bezel. Casio describes it as a full-metal analog-style watch for ocean sports and marine activities. The bracelet gives it a more conventional watch appearance than a resin-band Duro, but the metal construction also accounts for its substantially higher listed weight.
Controls and display
Its anti-reverse bezel is intended to turn in one direction, the standard safety arrangement for a timing bezel because accidental movement can make the remaining time appear longer rather than shorter. The analog display includes a date indication. A screw-lock back and mineral glass are part of the stated construction.
Accuracy and battery
Casio specifies accuracy of ±20 seconds per month and approximately three years from the SR626SW battery. That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent accuracy test. Battery duration depends on the conditions described by Casio and should not be interpreted as a guarantee for every watch.
Is the MDV-107D a real dive watch?
It is a 200 m-rated diver-style watch, but the available Casio product information does not state ISO 6425 certification. “200 m” and “20 bar” describe the water-resistance rating supplied by the manufacturer; they do not, by themselves, prove that a model has passed the complete ISO 6425 test program for a diving watch.

For swimming and ordinary surface-water activity, the stated rating provides the relevant manufacturer guidance. Snorkeling is a more demanding use because movement, temperature changes and impacts can stress seals. For scuba diving, use a watch whose documentation specifically identifies it as a diving watch and states the applicable standard. Casio makes that distinction itself in its water-resistance guidance: standard 20-bar G-SHOCK watches suit many water activities, while a professional scuba watch must be specifically designed and tested for diving.

The MDV-107D therefore makes sense for someone who wants the appearance and basic timing utility of a diver watch for daily wear, swimming or marine recreation. It should not be represented as an ISO-rated professional dive instrument unless a market-specific manual or specification explicitly supplies that certification.
What is the Casio Duro MDV-106, and how is it different?
The lighter platform
Casio lists the MDV-106 at 48 × 44 × 12 mm and 92 g, with a stainless-steel case and resin band. That lower mass is the practical reason many people choose it over the bracelet model. Resin also dries quickly and is easy to replace, while a steel bracelet gives a dressier appearance but adds weight and can feel less comfortable when wet.
Bezel, crown and caseback
The MDV-106 specification lists a unidirectional diver bezel, screw-down crown, screw-lock caseback and mineral glass. Those features provide the expected controls and sealing hardware for an analog water-resistant watch. The stated battery life is approximately three years, and the display includes a date.
What “Duro” means
“Duro” is enthusiast shorthand for the MDV-106 family. A specialist history traces the name to Casio’s DURO200 line and distinguishes the MDV-106 from the ISO-rated Diver’s 200M Frogman family. Keeping “MDV-106” in a search or purchase note avoids confusion with other Casio analog models that may share similar styling.

Is the Duro better than the MDV-107D?
Neither is universally better. The Duro is the rational choice when low weight, a resin band and a lower-key tool-watch feel matter most. The MDV-107D is the better fit when the bracelet, aluminum bezel and full-metal appearance are the reason you are buying the watch.
| Choose this priority | More suitable model | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Bracelet and metal appearance | MDV-107D | It combines a stainless bracelet with the aluminum-bezel design. |
| Lower weight and flexible strap | MDV-106 | The cited specification lists 92 g and a resin band. |
| Analog date display for everyday use | Either MDV model | Both are three-hand battery watches with a date display. |
| ISO-documented scuba capability | Frogman | The Frogman family is the Casio line that documents ISO-standard diving resistance. |
How does a standard G-SHOCK compare with Frogman?
Standard 20-bar G-SHOCK
Casio’s water-resistance guidance places standard 20-bar G-SHOCK models in the active-water category. They are designed for durability and shock resistance and can be appropriate for swimming and similar activities. The 20-bar label alone does not establish professional scuba certification, however, so a standard model should not be described as a dive watch merely because its number matches the MDV rating.
Frogman’s documented diving role
Frogman is the G-SHOCK diving family with ISO-standard 200 m diving water resistance. Casio describes the collection as using a highly airtight screw-back construction and a case structure intended for diving. Individual references add different capabilities.
GW-8230B and GWF-A1000 examples
The GW-8230B specification includes dive-time and surface-interval measurement, storage for up to ten dive logs, a tide graph and moon data. The GWF-A1000 adds Tough Solar power, radio control, Smartphone Link, diving logs and a tide graph. Those are model-specific features, so they should not be assumed on every Frogman reference.

Which watch is best for swimming, snorkeling or scuba diving?
| Activity | Most sensible choice | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Pool swimming | MDV-107D, MDV-106 or standard 20-bar G-SHOCK | All are presented by Casio as water-resistant options suitable for ordinary active-water use, subject to the specific manual and condition of the watch. |
| Surface swimming and marine recreation | MDV-107D or MDV-106 | They provide an analog timing bezel and date without the extra digital functions of Frogman. |
| Snorkeling | MDV model for recreational use; Frogman when documented dive construction is preferred | Snorkeling adds immersion and movement, so the model’s documentation and seal condition matter more than styling. |
| Scuba diving | ISO-documented Frogman | Frogman is the listed Casio family with ISO-standard 200 m diving water resistance and dedicated dive functions on applicable references. |
Before entering water, confirm the exact reference, read its current manual and ensure the crown is fully secured. Water resistance is not permanent: seals age, and a case that has been opened or damaged needs appropriate inspection before immersion. These precautions are more important than choosing between two similar-looking bezels.
How should you choose between the three families?
- Define the water activity. If the watch is for swimming or surface recreation, the MDV models or a standard 20-bar G-SHOCK can fit. If it is for scuba, start with ISO documentation rather than case style.
- Choose the wearing format. Select the MDV-107D for a steel bracelet and heavier full-metal presence. Select the MDV-106 for the lighter resin-band setup.
- Decide whether you need digital dive information. The MDV watches provide basic analog time and bezel timing. Frogman references can add dive-time, surface-interval, log, tide and moon information.
- Check the exact reference. Frogman features vary substantially by model, and the MDV-106 name covers a family with regional listings. Verify the specification for the reference sold in your market.
- Account for service and condition. A water-resistance rating assumes a properly sealed watch. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions after battery changes, crown operation or case work.
What are the main trade-offs in daily wear?
Comfort and size
The MDV-107D is the largest and heaviest of the two analog MDV specifications cited here. Its bracelet can distribute weight across the wrist, but the total mass is still noticeable. The MDV-106’s lower listed weight and resin band make it easier to wear for long periods or during active movement. Frogman comfort depends on the individual reference because case materials, sensors and bands differ.
Readability and timing
Both MDV watches keep the interface simple: analog hands, a date and a one-way timing bezel. That is easy to understand without menus or charging routines. Frogman adds information and automation, but the extra displays and controls are useful mainly when you actually need dive records, tide data or connected functions.

The MDV-107D and MDV-106 use replaceable batteries with approximately three-year stated life. Frogman references such as the GWF-A1000 use Tough Solar, while other models may add radio control or Bluetooth. Solar and connectivity reduce routine battery changes but introduce model-specific charging, pairing and setting considerations.
What is the final recommendation?
For a Casio aluminum-bezel diver on a bracelet, the MDV-107D is the direct answer. The MDV-106 Duro is the more practical lightweight alternative when a resin strap is acceptable. Standard G-SHOCK is the durability choice for active water use without a professional-diving claim. Frogman is the correct category when ISO-standard diving resistance, dive timing or logs are requirements rather than optional extras.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a 200 m rating mean I can scuba dive with any Casio watch?
No. The number is a manufacturer water-resistance rating, not automatic proof of ISO 6425 certification. Casio specifically separates ordinary 20-bar active-water models from watches designed and tested for professional scuba diving.
Why is the MDV-107D heavier than the Duro MDV-106?
The MDV-107D uses a stainless-steel bracelet and lists a 144 g weight. The MDV-106 specification uses a resin band and lists 92 g, so the difference comes mainly from the bracelet and overall construction.
Which Frogman model records dives?
Casio’s GW-8230B specification lists dive-time and surface-interval measurement with storage for up to ten dive logs. Other Frogman references have different functions, so check the exact model rather than assuming every feature is standard.
What battery does the MDV-107D use?
Casio lists an SR626SW battery and approximately three years of battery life for the MDV-107D. Battery duration is a manufacturer estimate, and the watch should be resealed and checked according to Casio’s instructions after replacement.
