The models share anniversary styling, but differ in construction: only the GMW pair has a full-metal exterior, while the DW-5040PG combines hardened metal components with biomass-plastic bezel and band parts.
Which watches make up the Recrystallized trio?
Casio announced the GMW-B5000PS and GMW-B5000PG together on March 15, 2023, and included the DW-5040PG in the same anniversary release. The two GMW models build on the full-metal GMW-B5000D, whose square design follows the original DW-5000C. The DW-5040PG instead reissues the original G-SHOCK design.

These are design and construction distinctions, not a current shopping comparison: Casio’s announcement does not establish present-day prices, stock, or availability by market.
What does “Recrystallized” mean on the two full-metal models?
Casio says it developed a process that infuses gas into stainless steel’s surface to form a hardened layer. That is a treatment of the material, rather than simply applying a hard coating. The company combines deep-layer hardening with heat treatment and recrystallization to produce a crystalline-looking pattern over a matte texture.

Casio says the grain varies from component to component, which means the pattern, color, and luster can differ from one watch to another. The finish is therefore not a uniform printed motif: natural variation in the treated components is part of the look.
In its March 15, 2023 launch release, Casio described the treated material as “approximately three times harder than ordinary stainless steel.” That is the manufacturer’s published comparison; the release does not provide an independent laboratory result or a third-party test method. How is the DW-5040PG different?
The DW-5040PG is not a third full-metal square. It carries the original-design reissue approach, with biomass plastics used for the bezel and band. Casio applies deep-layer hardening to metal parts including the case back, buckle, and band loop. That makes its material treatment part of the anniversary theme without giving it the all-metal construction of the GMW-B5000PS and GMW-B5000PG.

Casio America’s April 12, 2023 announcement used the U.S. designations GMWB5000PS-1 and GMWB5000PG-9 and mentioned CASIO WATCHES app connectivity, solar power, Multi-Band 6 atomic timekeeping, Bluetooth, and LED Super Illuminator. Those are regional launch details, not a guarantee that specifications, suffixes, or availability are identical in every market.
