Are Cortébert watches any good? The name has a long Swiss watchmaking history and is associated with mechanical watches, movements, railway watches and jumping-hour designs. But that history cannot establish the accuracy, reliability, value or serviceability of a particular vintage example. Those depend on the watch’s verified movement, condition, originality and service record.
What is the history of Cortébert watches?
Maison Tellus’s official heritage account traces the Juillard family’s watchmaking business to Adam-Louis Juillard, who established it in Sonvilier, Switzerland, in 1790. The account says local manufacturers later formed an ébauches factory at Cortébert, which opened in 1865 and was renamed Fabrique d’ébauches de Cortébert in 1880. Henri and Emile Juillard took over the family business in 1887. Maison Tellus also records Cortébert taking over the Tellus brand in 1942 and Albert Juillard selling the family stake in Cortébert Watch Co. in 1962. These dates are the heritage account’s chronology, not proof of the name’s present ownership or status. Maison Tellus: Our Legacy
The factory building is noted for 66 windows on its south façade. The heritage page does not state the year for that detail.
What kinds of Cortébert watches are known?
Historical Cortébert material is associated with mechanical watches and movements, railway watches, and jumping-hour designs. Time2Tell’s February 2025 model overview discusses jumping-hour watches using the Pallweber system and lists models from the 1930s through the 1960s. It is a secondary overview, not a complete catalog or authentication guide; identify a specific watch from its own markings and supporting documentation. Time2Tell: Main Cortébert watch models

WatchTraderHub also describes Cortébert as a maker of movements as well as watches. That makes movement identification especially important: a dial name alone does not establish the caliber, originality, or technical characteristics of an individual example. Are Cortébert watches still made?
The available sources do not establish whether Cortébert is currently in commercial use, who controls the name today, or whether new watches are being produced. WatchTraderHub describes the original operation as winding down in the early 1970s and also mentions a later relaunch, but that relaunch is not corroborated by Maison Tellus’s heritage account. Treat present-day production and ownership as unresolved rather than assuming the name is either active or definitively defunct.

What should you check before buying a vintage Cortébert?
Assess the specific watch rather than relying on the reputation of the name. Ask the seller for clear photographs and documentation, then have a knowledgeable watchmaker inspect the watch where possible.
- Movement and case identification: Request photographs of the movement and case markings. Confirm the caliber and model from the watch itself or reputable watchmaker documentation.
- Condition and originality: Ask whether the dial, hands, case and movement are original, and whether any parts have been replaced or refinished. Have uncertain details assessed rather than treating a seller’s description as verification.
- Service history: Look for dated service documentation that identifies the work performed. A watch running at the time of sale is not, by itself, evidence of recent service or long-term reliability.
- Provenance and seller records: Check what history and ownership documents accompany the watch, and whether the seller’s claims match the visible markings and paperwork.
- Repair prospects: Before purchase, ask a watchmaker familiar with vintage mechanical watches to assess the particular movement and discuss likely parts and service needs. Current Cortébert-specific parts supply and repair availability have not been established.
There is no market study or testing program in the available evidence that supports general Cortébert claims about prices, accuracy, failure rates or service costs. Compare individual examples with verified movement and model, condition, originality, documented service, provenance and seller documentation—not a brand-wide ranking.

Can Cortébert watches be repaired?
The sources do not identify an authoritative Cortébert service network or establish parts availability. That does not determine whether a particular watch can or cannot be repaired: the answer depends on its movement, condition, needed parts and a watchmaker’s assessment. Contact an independent vintage mechanical-watch specialist with the watch’s photographs and movement identification before committing to a purchase or repair.
