In an October 2 snapshot, the 1999 English 1st Edition Base Set holo Charizard graded PSA 10 had 33 bids and a high bid of $854,395. Men’s Journal calculated $1,025,274 after adding a 20% buyer’s premium. The auction was scheduled to end October 9.
What is the featured Charizard auction?
The lot is described as a 1999 Pokémon Base Set 1st Edition holo Charizard graded Gem Mint 10 by PSA. That combination of printing, edition and grade matters: a price for another Charizard card—even another PSA 10—does not automatically establish what this particular card is worth.
Men’s Journal reported 33 bids and a high bid of $854,395 in its October 2, 2026 article snapshot. Its stated $1,025,274 figure adds a 20% buyer’s premium to that bid; it is not the high bid itself or a confirmed final transaction price. The reported scheduled closing date was October 9, 2026.
Which Charizard sale set the $1.7 million comparison?
The reported $1,700,000 sale was for a different card: a Japanese 1996 Base Set Charizard with no rarity symbol, graded PSA 10. Sports Illustrated Collectibles reported that sale took place on March 3, 2026. It is a record comparison involving the same Pokémon, not the same set, printing or card variant as the live 1999 English 1st Edition lot.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That distinction is essential when reading the headline. The live lot’s October 2 bid snapshot was below $1.7 million, and the premium-inclusive arithmetic was also below that figure. Neither number was a final sale result, and neither establishes whether the auction would ultimately exceed the Japanese card’s reported price.
How do the other reported Charizard prices compare?
| Card and grade | Reported result | Venue and timing | How it relates |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1999 English 1st Edition Base Set holo Charizard, PSA 10 | $854,395 high bid; $1,025,274 including a stated 20% buyer’s premium | Heritage Auctions lot; Men’s Journal snapshot published October 2, 2026, with closing scheduled for October 9 | Featured live auction snapshot, not a completed result |
| 1996 Japanese Base Set Charizard with no rarity symbol, PSA 10 | $1,700,000 | Reported sold March 3, 2026; Sports Illustrated Collectibles | The record comparator, but a different language, set/printing and variant |
| 1999 English 1st Edition Base Set Charizard, PSA 10 | $550,000 | Heritage Auctions archive; March 2026 | A closer variant-and-grade comparison, though not the live lot’s result |
| 2002 Legendary Collection reverse-holo Charizard, PSA 10 | $575,000 | Heritage Auctions archive; September 2026 | Different set and foil treatment, so not an identical-card comparable |
| 1999 English 1st Edition Charizard, PSA 10 | $1,000,000 | Beezie sale, as reported by Men’s Journal on October 2, 2026 | A separate transaction reported by the article; it is not the live Heritage lot |
The figures are reported results or a dated bid snapshot, not a uniform set of directly comparable hammer prices. Men’s Journal’s premium-inclusive total for the live lot should not be treated as equivalent to a sale figure unless the basis of the comparator is also clear.

What does the separate $1 million report show?
Men’s Journal also reported a separate sale for $1 million of a PSA 10 1999 1st Edition Charizard on Beezie. The article attributed a statement about the transaction to Beezie founder and CEO Andrea Miele, saying the card had been sourced from Rally for $300,000 less than a year earlier. This is a separate reported transaction, not evidence that the Heritage lot had sold or that the two cards had identical provenance or sale terms.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would establish whether the record was broken?
The decisive figure is the completed result for the Heritage lot after its reported October 9 close, along with a clear indication of whether the quoted total includes buyer’s premium. Until that result is available, the accurate description is that a PSA 10 1999 English 1st Edition Base Set Charizard was being auctioned and might challenge a reported $1.7 million sale of a different, Japanese No Rarity Charizard. No final record claim follows from the October 2 bid snapshot.
