The Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton, reference DBBD02A1, is a slim, time-only dress watch built around an exposed, hand-finished rose-gold movement rather than a conventional dial. Its double-ellipse case measures a reported 38.6 × 35.5 × 6.9 mm, and the manually wound DR002SR offers a reported 4 Hz frequency and approximately 65 hours of power reserve. The appeal is the movement’s architecture and visibility; the trade-offs are a high launch-era price and the need to assess legibility in person.
What is the Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton?
DBBD02A1 is the skeletonized version of Daniel Roth’s Extra Plat, with caliber DR002SR replacing the regular model’s conventional dial-side presentation with openworked rose-gold bridges and plates. Fratello and Hodinkee both identify the watch by this reference and describe the movement as visible through the front and back. It remains time-only: the watch displays hours and minutes, with no additional complication reported.
The skeleton treatment belongs to Daniel Roth’s established design vocabulary. The brand’s historical models page describes earlier skeletonized variations alongside the double-ellipse case design. Fratello reports that Roth began making skeleton versions in the early 1990s, in very small quantities because of the work involved. DBBD02A1 brings that approach to the revived Extra Plat rather than introducing a new complication.
Case, dimensions, and everyday use
Fratello and Hodinkee report a 5N rose-gold double-ellipse case measuring 38.6 mm long, 35.5 mm wide, and 6.9 mm thick. The shape makes length and width more useful than a single diameter figure when judging how it may sit on the wrist. Fratello notes that the skeleton model is 0.8 mm thinner than the regular Extra Plat, which it reports at 7.7 mm thick.

Water resistance is reported as 30 m. That specification suits a dress-watch framing, not a claim of swimming or diving suitability. The case and openworked construction are presented around visual craft and a slim profile, rather than sports-watch utility.
How the DR002SR movement works
The hand-wound DR002SR is a skeletonized development of the Extra Plat’s DR002 family. Fratello reports 141 components, 21 jewels, a 4 Hz frequency, approximately 65 hours of power reserve, and a movement thickness of 3.1 mm. Hodinkee also describes the caliber as extensively hand-finished. Fratello says its bridges and plates were newly shaped to make the openworked construction possible, and that the movement is made in 18K rose gold to match the case.

- Designed in Sweden, Daniel Wellington timepieces feature minimalist Scandinavian style and are the perfect gift or personal accessory for every occasion.
- Double Plating On 316L Stainless Steel With A Silver Finish
- 36mmmm dial in Black
- Japanese Quartz Movement
- Durable, water-resistant case Up to 3 ATM
The exposed architecture is the main distinction from the regular Extra Plat: the wearer sees the structure and finishing that a conventional dial and full bridges would conceal. Blued hour and minute hands provide the time indication against that openworked background. Hodinkee raises legibility as something that needs in-person evaluation; no hands-on legibility assessment is established here.
In a statement quoted by Fratello, Master Watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini said: “The work required to finish a skeletonized caliber of this nature demands complete mastery of traditional techniques,” and described La Fabrique du Temps’s ability to perform the operations under one roof as essential to the final watch’s integrity.

How it differs from the regular Extra Plat
| Feature | Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton DBBD02A1 | Regular Extra Plat reference discussed in the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Dial-side presentation | Openworked rose-gold bridges and plates; blued hour and minute hands (Fratello and Hodinkee, January 2026) | Conventional dial-side presentation; official Rose Gold Gilt sibling page describes the DR002 family, not the skeleton reference |
| Movement | Manual DR002SR; reported 4 Hz, approximately 65-hour reserve, 21 jewels, 141 components (Fratello, January 19, 2026) | DR002 family, as listed for the Rose Gold Gilt sibling by Daniel Roth; do not treat that page as a DBBD02A1 specification sheet |
| Case size | 38.6 × 35.5 × 6.9 mm (Fratello and Hodinkee, January 2026) | 38.6 × 35.5 × 7.7 mm thickness for the regular Extra Plat, per Fratello’s comparison |
| Water resistance | 30 m (Fratello and Hodinkee, January 2026) | Not stated for the regular model in the cited comparison |
The official Extra Plat Rose Gold Gilt page is for a sibling, not DBBD02A1. It is useful for family-level context, including the DR002 movement and a 20 mm calfskin strap, but should not be used as the skeleton watch’s definitive product listing.

A separate 2025 Extra Plat, reference DBB001, sold at Phillips for CHF 57,150. That auction result concerns a different model with the DR002 movement, not the skeleton DBBD02A1, so it is not evidence of this watch’s resale value.
Quick Recap
Who is this watch for?
- Consider it if you value movement visibility, hand-finishing, and a slim double-ellipse rose-gold case more than a traditional dial.
- See it in person if you need to judge how easily the blued hands stand out against the openworked movement.
- Look elsewhere if your priorities are a sports-watch use case, water activity, or a lower purchase price; the reported 30 m resistance and CHF 85,000 excluding-tax launch price point in a different direction.
