The DELMA Blue Shark IV is rated by its maker to 5,000 metres (500 ATM), but that figure is a manufacturer specification—not an independently verified dive-test result. The US-listed black-dial, black-DLC version is also an unusually substantial watch: 47 mm wide, 20 mm thick and 55 mm from lug to lug. Those dimensions, along with regional differences in listed movement details and prices, matter as much as the headline depth rating when assessing it.
What the Blue Shark IV is—and what “5,000m” means
DELMA calls this the fourth iteration of its Blue Shark collection, whose first model launched in 2011. The brand positions the IV as a watch for deep-sea exploration. Its official US product listing rates the black-dial, black-DLC variant at 500 ATM / 5,000 m / 16,400 ft and specifies a helium escape valve, screw-down crown and unidirectional bezel (DELMA US product listing; DELMA, “Blue Shark IV: Engineered to Discover the Unknown,” September 14, 2023).
That is the rating DELMA publishes; the available sources do not independently establish that a production example was tested to 5,000 metres. It should therefore be read as a manufacturer-stated specification, not a firsthand or independently documented result. DELMA’s 2023 article says: “The helium escape valve at 9 o’clock and screw down crown ensure ultimate water tightness.” That is the brand’s performance claim, not an independent test conclusion (DELMA, September 14, 2023).
Dimensions and construction of the US black-on-black version
The examined US model is SKU 54701.760.6.034, with a black dial and black DLC-coated bezel. DELMA lists a brushed 316L stainless-steel case, AR-coated sapphire crystal, screw-down caseback and screw-down crown. The bezel is unidirectional and black DLC-coated; the helium escape valve is positioned at 9 o’clock (DELMA US product listing).

| Specification | DELMA-listed detail |
|---|---|
| Case diameter | 47 mm |
| Case height | 20 mm |
| Lug-to-lug | 55 mm |
| Lug width | 22 mm |
| Water resistance | 500 ATM / 5,000 m / 16,400 ft (manufacturer rating) |
| Crystal | AR-coated sapphire |
| Case and caseback | Brushed 316L stainless steel; screw-down caseback |
| Bezel | Black DLC-coated, unidirectional |
The 47 mm diameter, 20 mm thickness and 55 mm lug-to-lug span make fit an important consideration. These measurements establish the watch’s size, but they do not establish how it will feel on a particular wrist; try it on if possible, especially if you usually wear smaller cases.
Dial, bracelet and movement
For this US variant, DELMA lists a black dial with applied indexes and Super-LumiNova C5. The hour, minute and central seconds hands are luminous, and the dial includes a date display. The watch is supplied on a three-link steel bracelet with a deployant clasp and safety fold-over (DELMA US product listing).
Rank #2
The US listing names a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve, 28,800 A/h frequency and 26 jewels. Do not assume those movement figures apply to every regional reference: DELMA Japan’s listing for reference 41701.760.6.034 states a 38-hour power reserve instead (DELMA US listing; DELMA Japan listing). The available pages do not explain the discrepancy, so the reference and region should be checked when comparing specifications.
Variants, edition claims and regional prices
DELMA’s Japan announcement dated June 11, 2024 described six combinations: steel or black-DLC bezel, each paired with orange, blue or black dial. It announced a worldwide limit of 999 pieces per model and a Japanese launch price of ¥517,000 including tax. DELMA’s September 2023 article also stated that each variation would be limited to 999 pieces (DELMA Japan release announcement; DELMA, September 14, 2023).

The US price and stock status are time-sensitive snapshots; check DELMA’s listing for current terms. The Japanese listing’s price is distinct from the ¥517,000 launch price announced in June 2024, and the listings refer to different market contexts and, in some cases, different references (US; Japan; UK; Japan launch announcement).

Warranty and practical buying checks
DELMA says its watches have a two-year international warranty from delivery, extended to three years after registration. Verify the current terms and their application in your market with DELMA or the authorized seller before purchase (DELMA US product listing).
Quick Recap
- Confirm the exact reference and dial/bezel combination rather than relying on “Blue Shark IV” alone.
- Compare the regional listing for the movement reserve, price and warranty terms attached to that reference.
- Check that the 47 mm case, 20 mm thickness and 55 mm lug-to-lug dimensions suit your wrist and intended use.
- Treat the 5,000 m figure as DELMA’s rating unless you have separate independent test documentation for the specific watch.
