1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesYes—if you want to keep using your existing Fitbit account and Fitbit/Google Health services, you must move it to a Google Account. The deadline was May 19, 2026, so it has already passed. If your old Fitbit account still offers a migration or recovery prompt, complete it as soon as possible; after Google began processing legacy-account deletions on July 15, 2026, recovery is no longer guaranteed.
Quick answer
- Is migration required? Yes, for continued access to an existing Fitbit account and its account-based services.
- Was a new Fitbit required? No. This is an account migration, not a hardware upgrade or factory reset.
- Did you need Gmail? No. You need a Google Account, which can use a non-Gmail email address.
- Deadline: May 19, 2026.
- Can you undo it? You can cancel before the final confirmation, but Google says completed migration cannot be undone.
- Will Google use Fitbit health data for ads? Google says Fitbit health and wellness data is not used for Google Ads. The data is nevertheless associated with your Google Account and handled under Google’s applicable terms and privacy policy.
Google’s current migration guidance is available at Google Health’s official Fitbit migration page.
What “moving Fitbit to Google” actually means
Migration changes the account you use to sign in. Instead of authenticating with a standalone Fitbit Account, you sign in through a selected Google Account. Fitbit data selected during the process is associated with that Google Account, and the redesigned Google Health app replaces the former Fitbit app experience.
It does not inherently mean:
- buying a new Fitbit or Pixel device;
- resetting your tracker or smartwatch;
- buying Google Health Premium or Fitbit Premium;
- connecting Fitbit data to every Google service; or
- sharing your information with every third-party app.
Those are separate decisions. Connections to other Google services, third-party apps, research programs and wellness programs are generally optional and can be managed through account controls.

What happened if you did not migrate?
After May 19, 2026, legacy Fitbit accounts could no longer access the service using only their old Fitbit credentials. Google gave users an opportunity to download or delete their data before it began processing legacy-account deletions on July 15, 2026.
Google’s documentation indicated that some accounts might remain migratable during the deletion process. It does not promise that every account can still be recovered after deletion processing began. Therefore, an account that missed the deadline may be recoverable, deleted, or require individual support review—you cannot determine its status from the deadline alone.
What to do now if you missed the deadline
- Install or update the Google Health app.
- Try signing in with the email address and password used for the original Fitbit account.
- Look for an account-recovery or migration prompt.
- If Google asks you to choose an account, select the correct personal Google Account carefully. Completed migration cannot be reversed.
- After migration, check that your history, device and syncing are present.
- Export your data immediately if access is restored.
- Contact official Google Health/Fitbit support if the account is not recognized, the prompt is missing, the Google Account is rejected, data is incomplete, or you see a suspended, disabled or deleted-account message.
Do not factory-reset the Fitbit or delete accounts while troubleshooting. Those actions can remove useful evidence or create a separate recovery problem.
How to migrate a Fitbit account
- Update or install the Google Health app.
- Open the app and sign in with your existing Fitbit email address and password.
- Open the migration notification or account-move prompt.
- Review the Google Account offered or select the personal Google Account you want to use.
- Review the data, terms and permissions shown during setup.
- Confirm the migration at the final step.
- Use the selected Google Account for future sign-ins.
Google says the process generally takes a few minutes. You can cancel before final confirmation, but the completed move cannot be undone.

Open Google Health, sign in with that Gmail address, open Settings, and look for the migration notification. The decisive test is not the matching email address; it is whether the account now signs in through Google and your Fitbit/Google Health data is visible.
Phone and account requirements
Google Health requires a Google Account and supports Android 11 or later and iOS 16.4 or later. Google lists possible compatibility issues for some phones, including the Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei P9 Lite, Xiaomi Mi 6 and Huawei P20 Lite, even when the operating-system version appears to qualify. These are compatibility warnings, not proof that every such phone will fail.
Google Workspace accounts cannot be linked to Google Health. Use a personal Google Account or create one instead.

Will your Fitbit history disappear?
Google says historical Fitbit data selected during migration is retained. That can include steps and activity, exercise, sleep, heart rate, weight and body measurements, manually entered health information, GPS routes, and relevant device or account history.
This is not an unconditional promise that every record will always appear. Data may be unavailable if you exclude categories during setup, the migration fails or is incomplete, or the legacy account has already been deleted. After migration, allow time for synchronization and check multiple date ranges and data categories before assuming information is lost.

Does migration affect your Fitbit device?
Migration is an account change, not inherently a device reset. Afterward, verify that the tracker or smartwatch appears under the correct Google Health account and that syncing works.

Privacy implications
Migration gives Google a direct account relationship with your Fitbit data. Google says Fitbit health and wellness data will remain separate from Google Ads data and will not be used for Google Ads. That is narrower than saying Google does not process the data or that it is not associated with Google.
After migration, review:
- Google Account privacy, security and data controls;
- Google Health or Fitbit connected-app permissions;
- research-consent choices;
- employee wellness-program connections; and
- third-party app access.
When you share information with a third party, that party’s privacy policy governs its subsequent handling. Google’s Google Health privacy information, additional terms and Fitbit privacy documentation explain the applicable framework.

Family and child accounts
Family migration is not simply a one-click move for every member. Children below 13—or the applicable age in their country—may be eligible to move with a parent or guardian. Older children and adults generally need to migrate themselves.
The main or secondary guardian must also be the Google Family manager to move the family into a Google family group. Child age requirements, account updates and country-specific rules can block the process. If family migration fails, check each member’s age and account status, have older children or adults migrate separately, and resolve any required age update before retrying.
What happens to Fitbit Premium?
Account migration and subscriptions are separate. Moving to Google does not itself require buying a new Premium subscription. However, the app’s branding may change to Google Health Premium, and billing or entitlement depends on where the subscription was purchased.
Check the actual subscription-management page and original billing receipt—such as Google Play, Apple’s App Store or Google Store—before canceling or purchasing anything again. Do not assume a subscription will transfer or renew identically without verifying it in the relevant store and account.
How to export your data
Before migration, if the legacy account is still accessible
Use the legacy Fitbit route: Fitbit settings → Data Export → Export Your Account Archive → Request Data. Save the resulting archive locally rather than leaving it only in an email or cloud download queue.

After migration
Use Google’s account data-download process and select Google Health. For recent activity or an individual GPS workout, use the export controls in the Google Health app.
If the account has already been deleted, export controls may no longer be available. Google’s deletion guidance says most personal account information is deleted within 30 days after confirmation, while some device-recorded data may take up to 90 days. Those timeframes do not guarantee that a missed legacy Fitbit account can be restored.
If you do not want a Google Account
You can choose not to continue with the Fitbit account, but that means giving up reliable access to the existing account-based Fitbit/Google Health service. If possible, export your history first.
You may continue wearing the physical device, but full syncing and service access may not continue without the migrated account. You can also move future tracking to another platform, such as Apple Health, Google Health, Samsung Health, Garmin Connect or Oura, depending on your phone and device compatibility. Do not assume another platform can import every Fitbit record or preserve every Fitbit feature.

Troubleshooting checklist
No migration prompt
- Confirm you are using Google Health rather than an obsolete Fitbit app version.
- Sign out and retry with the original Fitbit credentials.
- Confirm the selected Google Account is personal, not Workspace.
- Try another personal Google Account if Google reports incompatibility.
- Contact official support with screenshots and the exact error message.
Data appears incomplete
- Confirm that you chose the intended Google Account.
- Allow synchronization time.
- Check different date ranges and data categories.
- Review Google Health data controls and connected-service permissions.
- Attempt an official export before unlinking or deleting anything.
A family migration is blocked
Check the age and status of every child account, confirm that the guardian is the Google Family manager, and have older children or adults migrate separately where required.
Bottom line
If you want to keep using an existing Fitbit account, moving it to a personal Google Account is required. The May 19, 2026 deadline and July 15 deletion-processing date have passed, so users who have not migrated should try Google Health immediately and contact official support if recovery fails. Migrate only after choosing the correct Google Account, then verify your history, device syncing, permissions and subscription status. If you do not want Google account association, export your data if possible and prepare to use another health-tracking ecosystem.
