The Chronoscope clasp’s central connecting arm measured 7 mm, against a 5 mm opening in the Moonwatch links. Swapping the removable folding arm made it possible to attach the clasp, but left it sitting unevenly. Omega’s later Moonwatch quick-adjust retrofit is the more purpose-built option to ask about, provided the exact watch and bracelet are eligible.
Why the Chronoscope clasp does not fit directly
In a May 2022 hands-on report, Fratello Watches author Ben Hodges measured the Chronoscope clasp’s central connecting arm at 7 mm and the opening in the tested Moonwatch links at 5 mm. The clasp and Moonwatch clasp were both 15 mm wide, but that matching width did not resolve the connector mismatch. Hodges’s measurements and fit test concern the bracelet he examined, not every Speedmaster Professional generation.
What the folding-arm swap changes
Hodges found that the folding-arm elements could be removed with a spring bar and that both had a reported 12.5 mm internal gap. He swapped the Moonwatch folding arm onto the Chronoscope clasp, which allowed him to attach both bracelet sides. This was an experimental workaround, not a confirmed universal fit.
- The adjusted clasp measured 33 mm long, compared with 29 mm for the original Moonwatch clasp.
- A 4 mm shroud covered the extension side.
- The Moonwatch outer folding arms sat on top of the Chronoscope’s PUSH button rather than fitting to either side. Hodges reported that this raised the clasp about 2 mm on the underside of the wrist.
Hodges had not tested the separate connecting component he identified as 118STZ013110 when he published. The report therefore does not establish that this configuration is secure or suitable for routine wear. If you are considering any parts swap, have an Omega service point or qualified watchmaker check the connector and clasp seating.

How much adjustment does the clasp add?
The push-button mechanism provides a reported 2.3 mm of tool-free extension—about half a link—useful for a small fit change while wearing the watch. It is not a substitute for sizing the bracelet by adding or removing links. The 2.3 mm figure is from the 2022 hands-on report and a 2023 follow-up, rather than a claim about every clasp generation.
The purpose-built 3861 Moonwatch retrofit
A January 2023 Fratello update reported that Hesalite and sapphire 3861 Moonwatch references 310.30.42.50.01.001 and 310.30.42.50.01.002 began leaving Omega production with an easy-adjust clasp in late November 2022. The update also described a retrofit for existing owners: clasp reference STZ013899 and kit reference 117Z017553. In a May 17, 2023 update, it said the kit included the quick-adjust clasp and the parts needed to mount it to an existing bracelet. Read the 2023 update on the 3861 bracelet and retrofit kit.

That report is useful for identifying what to ask about, but it does not confirm present-day stock, regional pricing, or eligibility for every bracelet. It also identifies complete bracelet references 020Z017488 (fully brushed) and 020Z017493 (polished intermediate links). These are reference points for a dealer conversation, not proof that a particular clasp kit fits your watch.
What to confirm before ordering
- Identify the watch and bracelet. Record the full watch reference and, if available, the bracelet reference. “Moonwatch” covers multiple generations, and the cited fit reports do not establish compatibility across them.
- Ask Omega or an authorized dealer about the exact kit. Give them those references and ask whether kit 117Z017553 is currently available and approved for your bracelet.
- Confirm what is included. Ask whether the required mounting connector parts are part of the kit for your exact bracelet, rather than assuming the clasp alone is sufficient.
- Get installation checked if needed. If a connector or spring-bar assembly is being changed, ask a qualified watchmaker or Omega service point to verify the fit and clasp seating.
How the two approaches compare
| Option | Compatibility evidence | Adjustment | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chronoscope clasp with Moonwatch folding-arm swap | Hodges reported that the swap allowed attachment on the tested 3861 bracelet; the original 7 mm connector did not fit its 5 mm link opening. | Reported 2.3 mm tool-free extension. | Raised clasp and button obstruction were reported; the separate connector was not tested. |
| Moonwatch quick-adjust retrofit kit 117Z017553 | A 2023 Fratello update reported a kit for existing 3861 bracelets; confirm eligibility for the exact watch and bracelet with Omega. | Reported 2.3 mm tool-free extension. | Current availability and kit contents may vary; verify before ordering. |
Price and availability
Hodges reported paying £162.62 for the clasp in May 2022. That is a historical, location-specific figure, not a current quote. Ask an Omega boutique or authorized dealer for current regional pricing, availability, and the complete parts list for your bracelet.
