For buyers, that makes a specific watch’s reference, condition, service record and seller protections more useful than broad claims about the brand. The available owner feedback is positive but dated and limited to individual models; there is no reliable brand-wide evidence here to establish resale performance or current service terms.
What is Dubey & Schaldenbrand?
Georges Dubey and René Schaldenbrand founded the Swiss watch company in 1946, according to Europa Star’s historical account. The brand’s history includes mechanical watches with varied complications, rather than a single design or movement type. Historical reporting says Cinette Robert purchased the brand in 1995 and Jonatan Gil took over the company in 2009; those milestones do not establish who owns it today.
Its present public status is less clear. On 5 October 2026, the official website displayed the message “A new chapter begins soon,” along with Swiss contact and after-sales details. It did not show a catalogue, explain what the message means, or give a launch date. That notice is not enough to confirm current production or availability of any particular model.
A retrospective published by Fratello on 30 August 2025 discusses Dubey & Schaldenbrand among watch brands whose activity or prominence has changed. The newer official notice is the more relevant source for the brand’s current public status, though it leaves key questions unanswered.

What kinds of watches did the brand make?
Historical examples show a range of mechanical styles and complications. They can help identify what the brand has made, but should not be treated as a current catalogue or as specifications that apply across all models.
Aerodyn
A 2003 TimeZone review of the Aerodyn Duo describes a GMT-style second time zone and date. An archived Aquadyn review mentions historical Aerodyn variants with alarm, chronograph, GMT, regulator, jump-hour and chronometer functions, as well as ladies’ models. These are historical references, not confirmation that the watches remain in production.

Gran’ Chrono Astro
A 2026 RealReal appraisal describes one Gran’ Chrono Astro Edition Speciale-65-Sertie as a stainless-steel automatic watch with chronograph, full calendar, moonphase, diamond bezel and exhibition caseback. The appraisal lists that example’s dimensions as 38 mm by 50 mm. Those details describe the appraised watch; they should not be generalized to every Gran’ Chrono Astro or to the brand as a whole.
Are Dubey & Schaldenbrand watches good?
The available owner reports suggest that some owners valued the finishing and construction of particular watches, but they are old, subjective accounts rather than controlled tests or a representative measure of consistent quality. A 2003 TimeZone reviewer rated an Aerodyn Duo 98/100 and praised its finishing. In a separate Aquadyn review, an owner noted that polished surfaces scratch and that sizing the bracelet precisely could be difficult.

That evidence is useful as a clue about individual ownership experiences, not as proof that every model is durable, accurate or easy to maintain. No representative figures for production quality, accuracy or customer satisfaction are established by the available sources.
Can you buy one new, and what about warranty or service?
The official site’s “A new chapter begins soon” message does not confirm that new watches are currently available. It lists general enquiry and customer/after-sales contact details and a La Chaux-de-Fonds address, but publishes no current catalogue, launch date, warranty terms or defined service scope. Ask the brand directly about a specific reference before relying on parts, repairs or warranty support.

A 2003 TimeZone Aquadyn reviewer wrote, “Additionally, Dubey has increased their warranty on their new watches to 2 years.” That is a dated reviewer’s statement about policy at the time, not evidence of the present warranty. Mechanical watches may require specialist service; whether the brand can support a particular model, and what documentation or parts are available, remains unconfirmed until the brand responds.

For a meaningful comparison, look for the same reference and complication, then account for condition, originality, service documentation, box and papers, and the seller’s return terms. Avoid treating an appraisal of one watch as a benchmark for another model.
What to check before buying a pre-owned example
Evaluate the actual watch and transaction rather than relying on the name alone. Before committing, check:
- Reference and complication: Confirm the exact model and functions against clear photographs and available documentation.
- Condition: Inspect the case, crystal, dial, hands, bracelet or strap, and clasp. Pay particular attention to polished surfaces, which an Aquadyn owner reported could scratch.
- Service history: Ask for dated invoices or other records identifying the work performed. If records are absent, factor uncertainty about mechanical condition into your decision.
- Originality and completeness: Check whether components appear correct for the reference and whether box, papers or other accessories are included. Do not assume accessories prove authenticity.
- Authentication and seller protections: Seek credible evidence that the watch is genuine, understand the seller’s return terms, and use protections appropriate to the transaction.
- Price comparison: Compare only examples with similar references, condition, completeness and service documentation; an individual appraisal is not a market valuation benchmark.
If service support matters to your purchase, contact the brand using the current after-sales details on its official website and ask whether it supports the exact model, what documentation is needed, and whether relevant parts are available. Do not infer current catalogue options from old reviews.
