How the Héritier à Guichets displays time
The dial has four vertically aligned arched windows: day, hours, minutes and date. Wandering discs show the hours and minutes, while the day and date are jumping indications. This layout draws on early 20th-century digital-display watches, including the Art Deco designs SJX discusses in its 2020 coverage.
The unusual presentation is also the watch’s main functional compromise. The minute indication advances in five-minute increments, and there is no seconds readout, according to the reference-specific Monochrome review. It suits someone drawn to a less familiar way of reading time better than someone who regularly needs exact minute or second readings at a glance.

Monochrome’s 2020 specification block describes an anthracite-grey sunray-brushed dial in a polished titanium case with a stainless-steel bezel. Its listed dimensions are 40 mm in diameter and 11 mm high. These are published figures, not independent measurements for this article.

Movement and practical trade-offs
Reference-specific coverage identifies the automatic EC9227 as based on ETA 2834. Its listed 38-hour power reserve and 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) describe the movement; they do not change how the dial communicates time. The watch’s defining choice is between an unconventional, historically inspired display and the precision and familiarity of conventional hands.
