Their details make the pairing more than a shared dedication: one carries text across sculptural bracelet links, while the other uses a repeated Roman numeral and a Rivera engraving on its caseback.
Two artists, two distinct watch designs
The pairing connects each artist to a different Bulgari design language. The Kahlo edition is jewelry-like and sculptural, with a single-wrap Tubogas bracelet. The Rivera edition is a more architectural wristwatch, built around the Octo Finissimo’s thin, geometric case. Both are in yellow gold and were reported as limited editions of 25 pieces by Monochrome Watches.

What makes the Kahlo Tubogas a cuff watch
The Manchette’s defining feature is its single-wrap yellow-gold bracelet: a continuous, sculptural form rather than a conventional strap-and-lug arrangement. Monochrome Watches describes it as drawing on a 1970s model. The 19 mm case, mother-of-pearl dial and diamond markers give the watch a jewelry-forward character, while its reported Lady Solotempo automatic movement provides a 50-hour reserve.
The engraved text adds a literary connection to the tribute. FridaKahlo.it attributes the bracelet inscription to Beatriz Alvarado’s Diarios de un accidente. This is distinct from claiming that the words are Kahlo’s own writing: the cited attribution is to Alvarado’s book.

The Tubogas name refers to coiled gas pipe. FridaKahlo.it and Monochrome Watches place Bulgari’s use of the flexible Tubogas construction in a Serpenti bracelet watch in 1948. That history gives the cuff’s sinuous metal form a design lineage beyond this tribute edition.
What distinguishes the Rivera Octo Finissimo
The Rivera edition applies the Octo Finissimo’s restrained, architectural geometry to yellow gold. Monochrome Watches reports a 40 mm diameter and 6.4 mm thickness, along with a brushed yellow-gold dial and integrated bracelet. Inside, its BVL 138 automatic movement uses a platinum micro-rotor and is reported with a 60-hour power reserve.

The dial’s repeated XI is a deliberate design detail, not evidence that the watch reproduces a documented Rivera painting. Monochrome Watches specifically notes that there is no evidence Rivera painted a clock with this repeated-numeral error. The caseback, rather than the dial, supplies a more direct artist reference: the sapphire back is reported to be engraved with Rivera’s signature and profile.
Launch context, edition size and historical prices
Monochrome Watches reported that Bulgari worked with representatives of the artists for three years on the two editions. ELLE México’s feature, dated 22 August 2025, says the launch event took place the previous night and links its timing to Kahlo and Rivera’s wedding anniversary. ELLE also presents the 25-piece edition size as a reference to the couple’s 25 years of relationship; that explanation is the magazine’s account, not a separately verified statement from Bulgari. The publications differ in how they frame the presentation timing, so a single definitive first-public-unveiling date is not established here.

The prices in the comparison are launch-era figures reported by Monochrome Watches on 21 October 2025, not confirmed current prices. The pair’s strongest design decision is its contrast. Kahlo’s edition turns the bracelet into the central object and places its literary reference directly on that form. Rivera’s edition keeps the Octo Finissimo’s spare, thin architecture and concentrates the personal reference in the caseback, while the repeated XI gives the dial a more enigmatic accent. The result is two tributes with identifiable artist connections but no forced sameness.
