The burgundy Oris Big Crown Pointer Date x Cervo Volante is a 40 mm stainless-steel automatic watch, reference 01 754 7785 4038-Set. Its defining details are a red-gradient dial, oversized crown, central date pointer and dark-brown deer-leather strap. Oris lists it at USD 2,600 on its US product page; availability and pricing can vary by market.
What’s new about this Cervo Volante edition?
This version brings the Cervo Volante collaboration to a deep burgundy dial. Oris describes the dial as red, while Fratello’s 29 September 2026 coverage identifies a burgundy-to-dark-red gradient. The watch is reference 01 754 7785 4038-Set, distinct from the orange-dial 2025 collaboration, reference 01754 7785 4068. The two share a design family but are different editions. Oris’s US product listing and Fratello’s report cover the burgundy watch; Monochrome’s 2025 article covers the orange reference.
Case, dial and date display
The multi-piece stainless-steel case measures 40 mm across. Fratello reports a 48.2 mm lug-to-lug length and 12.2 mm thickness for this reference. Oris specifies a domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating, a screwed steel caseback and water resistance of 5 bar.
White Arabic numerals and Super-LumiNova markers contrast with the gradient dial, according to Fratello. Instead of a small date window, a central hand points to the date on a scale around the dial’s perimeter. The oversized crown is another defining Big Crown feature.

The movement provides a 41-hour power reserve. That is a practical specification to weigh if the watch will rotate with others: after being left off the wrist longer than its reserve, it will need winding and resetting before wear.
Strap, pouch and sourcing claims
Oris lists a 20 mm dark-brown Cervo Volante deer-leather strap, describing the leather as sustainably sourced and naturally tanned. Fratello reports quick-release spring bars, a steel pin buckle and an included Cervo Volante deer-leather travel pouch. Cervo Volante’s 2022 announcement says the company uses deer leather and seeks to minimize waste and offcuts. Those are company descriptions, not independent verification of the sourcing or environmental impact.

In that 2022 announcement, Oris chairman Ulrich Herzog said: “A mechanical watch is a sustainable product – it uses existing kinetic energy and is designed to last. Oris focuses exclusively on mechanical watches. We have not produced a quartz model with a disposable battery since 1995.” This is Herzog’s and Oris’s position, not independent proof of sustainability. Cervo Volante’s announcement also records the collaboration’s original launch as three 38 mm watches in January 2022.
How it fits the Big Crown history
Oris dates the Big Crown Pointer Date’s entry into its collection to 1938. The oversized crown and pointer-date display connect the present watch to the line’s pilot-watch identity. The fluted bezel now associated with the design was a later addition, rather than a feature of the original pilot’s watches, as Monochrome notes in its coverage of the 2025 edition.

Oris’s US product page lists the burgundy reference at USD 2,600. Fratello reported prices of €2,250, US$2,600 and £1,900 and availability at the time of its 29 September 2026 article.
