The Seiko Presage SPB401 is a 1,500-piece limited edition created for Seiko’s 110th-anniversary watchmaking releases. Its white enamel dial takes inspiration from the Laurel, Seiko’s first wristwatch, introduced in 1913. The 40.2 mm stainless-steel watch uses the automatic Caliber 6R27. Seiko’s £1,400 European recommended price and October 2023 launch availability are historical details, not current stock or pricing information.

What is the Seiko Presage SPB401?

The SPB401 is part of Seiko Presage’s Craftsmanship Series and was announced as one of Seiko’s 110th-anniversary limited editions. Seiko listed the production quantity at 1,500 pieces. The model combines a contemporary automatic movement and case with an enamel dial drawing on the design of the Laurel. Seiko’s September 6, 2023 announcement sets out the edition and its specifications.

How is it inspired by the Laurel?

Seiko introduced the Laurel in 1913 as its first wristwatch. The SPB401 is an interpretation of that historical design, not a reproduction of the original watch. Its white enamel dial and grey metal bar indexes reference the Laurel-era aesthetic while giving it a contemporary Presage case and movement.

Seiko’s September 12, 2023 release describes the indexes as designed to stand out against the enamel and connects the dial material with the Laurel. That is the manufacturer’s description of the design; it is not an independent test of the enamel’s durability. Seiko’s release on the dial design credits master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his team with the enamel-dial work.

Is the SPB401 still available?

Current retailer stock is not established by Seiko’s original launch announcement. In September 2023, Seiko said worldwide boutique and select-retailer availability would begin in October of that year. An official retrospective page now labels the model no longer available for purchase on that page, but that does not establish whether a retailer or secondhand seller has a particular watch in stock. Seiko’s retrospective page provides that page-specific status.

What did the SPB401 cost at launch?

Seiko’s 2023 UK announcement gave a recommended European retail price of £1,400. This is the historical launch price, not a current quote or resale valuation. A present-day asking price and availability need to be checked with the individual seller.
