The Niton Prima is a modern Geneva jump-hour watch built around a display associated with the historic Niton name. Its reported launch specification combines a rectangular precious-metal case with a manually wound shaped movement, jumping hours, rotating-disc minutes, and small seconds; the 38-piece edition was reported sold out by May 2026.
It is a revival, not evidence of an uninterrupted return of the original company. Launch prices reported by MONOCHROME Watches were CHF 44,750 for rose gold and CHF 47,750 for platinum, excluding VAT. Those are launch prices, not confirmation of current resale value or availability.
Why Niton’s return matters
MONOCHROME Watches reports that Manufacture des Montres Niton S.A. was founded in Geneva in 1919 and became known for jumping-hour watches and movements. It names Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Cartier, and Gübelin among the established watch names Niton supplied. These are reported historical associations, not a complete or independently verified customer list.
The historic firm is associated with jump-hour displays: the hour changes discretely at the hour rather than advancing continuously on a conventional hour hand. A video description for an April 2026 interview with co-founder Leopoldo Celi recounts a Niton jump-hour design registered in 1928, but the registration was not verified against a primary archival record in the research for this article.

The available research does not establish a definitive corporate chronology for the historic firm. The Prima should therefore be understood as a modern revival of the name and design tradition, not as proof that the original manufacture operated continuously.
The story behind the modern revival
MONOCHROME identifies entrepreneurs Yvan Ketterer and Leopoldo Celi with the contemporary revival. The launch coverage presents the project as a new interpretation of Niton’s watchmaking history, rather than a reissue from a continuously operating historic company.
The brand describes the Prima as drawing on graphic and industrial design as well as mechanical structures. That is brand wording reproduced by MONOCHROME, rather than a quotation attributed to a named individual.
MONOCHROME reported two editions of 19 watches each, for 38 examples in total. The edition size and the launch details below should be read as reported specifications, not as independently verified production records.

A vertical display in a compact case
The Prima presents the time through three circular display areas rather than a conventional set of hands over one dial:
- Hours: a jumping-hour aperture.
- Minutes: a rotating disc.
- Seconds: a small-seconds display below.
As MONOCHROME explains, a jumping-hour mechanism stores energy and releases it so the hour indication changes quickly at the hour. The Prima pairs that jump with rotating-disc minutes and small seconds. SJX describes the sound at the changeover as a discreet click, not a chime.

The display makes the watch a contemporary interpretation of the historic Niton association with jump hours, not a vintage reissue. MONOCHROME describes the case as rectangular and reports the following launch specifications.
Niton Prima reported launch specifications
| Specification | Reported detail |
|---|---|
| Case shape | Rectangular |
| Dimensions | 27 mm × 35.50 mm |
| Thickness | 7.9 mm |
| Case materials | Rose gold or platinum |
| Crystal | Sapphire |
| Water resistance | 30 m |
| Movement | Manually wound NHS01, described as rectangular |
| Display | Jumping hours, rotating-disc minutes, small seconds |
| Frequency and power reserve | 4 Hz; 72 hours |
| Production | 19 watches in each metal; 38 total |
| Launch price, excluding VAT | CHF 44,750 in rose gold; CHF 47,750 in platinum |
These figures are launch specifications reported by MONOCHROME Watches on February 5, 2026. The rectangular dimensions help explain why the watch may wear differently from a round watch of similar width, but fit depends on the wearer and should be assessed in person where possible.

The NHS01 movement
MONOCHROME reports that the manually wound, rectangular NHS01 was designed by Niton and developed with Le Temps Manufacture. The reported frequency is 4 Hz, with a 72-hour power reserve. This supports describing the calibre as developed for the brand with a production partner; it does not establish that every component is made in a Niton-owned factory.
What happens at the top of the hour?
The hour indication jumps at the change of hour. SJX describes a hammer striking a gong and characterizes the resulting sound as a discreet click, not a chime. Do not confuse this with a minute repeater, which sounds the time on demand.
Stop-to-zero time setting
MONOCHROME and SJX describe a stop-to-zero behavior: when the crown is pulled, the seconds hand continues until it reaches zero and then stops. SJX says this can help with setting the certified chronometer accurately. It is not an immediate hack that freezes the seconds hand wherever it happens to be.
Geneva Seal and chronometer certification
MONOCHROME reports that the Prima complies with Geneva Seal specifications and includes a chronometer certificate. SJX identifies Timelab as the organization that conducts chronometer certification and grants the Poinçon de Genève. The dossier does not include independent verification of an individual watch’s certificate, so these claims should be treated as reported launch information.

- CASE & MOVEMENT: A men's watch with a 44mm case, 22mm band width, scratch resistant mineral crystal, accurate quartz movement with chronograph analog display, imported
- DIAL: These men's watches feature a stainless steel case with a gold dial
- WATCH BAND: Wrist watches for men with a gold-tone stainless steel bracelet; links can be removed for a customized fit

The two credentials address different criteria. The Geneva Seal is not, by itself, a chronometer certificate. For the Prima, refer to the documentation accompanying the individual watch for confirmation of its certification status and scope.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the Prima gets right—and what remains unproven
The Prima’s clearest point of distinction is its vertical arrangement of jumping hours, rotating-disc minutes, and small seconds, tied to a name associated in historical reporting with jump-hour watches. Its shaped manual movement and reported 4 Hz frequency and 72-hour reserve add technical substance to that design.
There are limits to what the launch coverage establishes. The historic chronology and some details of the company’s past have not been independently verified in the research dossier. The movement was developed with Le Temps Manufacture, and the available reporting does not establish a long-term ownership, service, or reliability record for the modern company.
For a prospective collector, certification documents, servicing arrangements, and any current availability should be confirmed for the specific watch. Launch coverage and a sellout report are not substitutes for those checks.
