The first Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A-018 with a Tiffany Blue dial sold at Phillips for $6,503,500 on December 11, 2021. Phillips said the sale raised $6.5 million for The Nature Conservancy and set a world record for a wristwatch sold online—a claim limited to online sales, not all watch auctions.
How much did the Tiffany Nautilus sell for?
Phillips’ lot result gives the exact realized price as $6,503,500. The auction-house release rounded the result to $6.5 million when describing the funds raised for The Nature Conservancy. Contemporary coverage also reported a $5.35 million hammer price, which is the bid before the buyer’s premium and should not be confused with the final lot result.
Phillips described the sale as “Setting a New World Record for Any Wristwatch Sold Online.” That is Phillips’ claim about online wristwatch sales; it does not establish a record for the most expensive wristwatch sold by any method. The full New York auction brought in $35,919,052, with all 165 lots sold, according to Phillips.
What was the watch?
The watch was a brand-new stainless-steel Patek Philippe Nautilus, reference 5711/1A-018, with a 40 mm case, automatic Calibre 26-330 S C movement, date display, steel bracelet, and Tiffany Blue lacquer dial. The lot included a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin from Tiffany & Co. in New York dated December 11, a fitted presentation box, a leather envelope, and product literature.

It was the first watch offered at auction from a 170-piece edition marking the 170th anniversary of the Patek Philippe–Tiffany & Co. relationship. In its 2021 release plan, Phillips said the remaining watches would be available exclusively at Tiffany locations in New York, Beverly Hills, and San Francisco. That describes the original release plan, not current availability.
Why did the collaboration matter?
Patek Philippe said the two companies established their U.S. retail partnership in 1851, making Tiffany the first official U.S. retail partner for Patek Philippe timepieces. The 2021 edition marked 170 years of that relationship. The sale therefore brought together a limited anniversary watch, a long-running retail partnership, and a charitable auction.

Where does the Tiffany edition fit in Nautilus history?
The Nautilus debuted in 1976 as reference 3700. Phillips described reference 5711 as the modern iteration; it premiered in 2006 with an exhibition caseback and an in-house self-winding movement with center seconds. The Tiffany-dial 5711/1A-018 was a special edition of this modern reference, rather than a new Nautilus model line.
