Fitbit’s former menstrual health feature is now called Cycle health in the Google Health app. It lets you enter period dates, flow details, symptoms and ovulation-test results, then produces estimated period dates, a fertile window, an estimated ovulation day and longer-term cycle trends. You can use it without owning a Fitbit device. These are estimates based on the information you provide, not measurements of ovulation or medical findings. Google explicitly says Cycle health is not intended for contraception or other medical purposes, and it does not guarantee that predictions will be accurate.
What happened to Fitbit menstrual health tracking?
Google’s current documentation uses Cycle health rather than “menstrual health.” The Fitbit app began becoming the Google Health app on May 19, 2026, so older screenshots and help articles may show Fitbit labels while current menus use Google Health wording. The underlying concept is still a user-entered cycle log with predictions and trend summaries.

This naming change matters when you are trying to follow an old instruction. Look for Cycle health in Google Health first; if you still use a legacy Fitbit app or account, your labels and navigation can differ from the current instructions.
What does Cycle health actually track?
Cycle health combines information you enter with estimates generated from that history. It does not directly detect menstruation or prove that ovulation occurred.

| Information or result | What it means | How it gets there |
|---|---|---|
| Period dates | The start and end of bleeding that you record | Manual entry in the Google Health app |
| Flow details | Additional detail about bleeding intensity or experience | Manual entry; recording flow details alone does not record a period |
| Symptoms and other cycle details | Personal observations associated with your cycle | Selected entries you make in the app |
| OPK results | A record of an ovulation predictor-kit result | Manual entry; buying or using a kit is optional |
| Period predictions | An estimated date for a coming period | Calculated from your logged history and cycle information |
| Fertile window and ovulation day | Estimated timing, not a clinical confirmation | Calculated from your entries and any logged ovulation-test results |
| Cycle trends | Summaries such as typical cycle length, period length and variability | Calculated from completed cycles in the app’s recent-data window |
Google says predictions become more personalized when you log periods consistently and when the app has recent information. A missing, incorrectly dated or unusually long cycle can therefore affect what appears on the calendar.
How do I track my period in the Google Health app?
Use the current Google Health labels rather than assuming that an older Fitbit tutorial matches your screen. The feature itself does not require a wearable.

- Enter your period information, including the dates on which bleeding started and ended. If you are setting it up for the first time, provide the cycle information the app requests.
- Add optional details such as flow observations, symptoms or other cycle notes. Treat flow details as a separate entry: they do not automatically create a period record.
- If you use an ovulation predictor kit, record its result in Cycle health. The kit is an optional companion; Cycle health does not require one.
- Review the calendar for the estimated next period, fertile window and ovulation day. Keep logging subsequent periods so the estimates can use more recent history.
Google says users can see predictions after logging at least one period. The first estimate may consequently be less tailored than later ones, because the app has less of your own history to use.
How are the fertile-window and ovulation estimates calculated?
Google says the calculations use the period and cycle-length information you enter, together with any ovulation-test results you log. When setup information is missing, the app starts with a 28-day cycle and a five-day period; it displays a seven-day fertile window. Those are product defaults, not statements about your body or clinical standards.
The displayed ovulation day is an estimate derived from the available pattern. Entering a positive or negative OPK result gives the app another piece of information, but logging a test does not turn the calendar into a diagnostic test and does not guarantee that ovulation happened.

When do cycle trends become useful?
Google says trend summaries typically need at least three completed cycles. If fewer cycles are available, the app uses setup information instead. Several metrics use a six-month data window, so the summaries are designed to reflect recent history rather than every cycle you have ever recorded.
Recommended Free Tools
Cycle-length and period-length trends
Google describes these as medians over the last six months. A median reduces the influence of one unusually short or long cycle, but it can still change as a newer cycle enters the window and an older one drops out.
Cycle variability
Variability is calculated from differences between consecutive cycles during that six-month period. It is a description of how your logged cycles have differed, not a prediction that a medical problem exists.
Why consistent logging matters
Every trend depends on the dates and details you entered. Missing periods, duplicate entries or uncertain dates can make the summary less representative. If your cycle pattern changes because of a medication, a health condition or hormonal contraception, the app may not reflect that change reliably.
Can I use Cycle health without a Fitbit watch?
Yes. Google says Cycle health works in the Google Health app without a Fitbit device. A supported watch can provide an additional way to view or enter cycle information after setup, but the phone app remains where cycle phases and symptoms are viewed.

Is Fitbit Cycle health accurate enough for contraception or medical decisions?
No. Google states: “Cycle health tracking isn’t intended to be used for contraceptives or other medical purposes.” Google also says it does not guarantee particular results and that the feature may not accurately predict cycles or related information.
Conditions and medications can change cycles and reduce the usefulness of an estimate. Google specifically notes that hormonal birth control can affect ovulation and make predictions less accurate. Do not treat a fertile-window display as a contraceptive method, a diagnosis, evidence of pregnancy, or proof that ovulation occurred.
For conception or pregnancy questions, Google’s guidance is to talk with a doctor. If your cycle changes concern you, bring the logged pattern to a qualified healthcare professional rather than trying to interpret the app as a clinical report.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsCan I use the feature for family planning?
Cycle health can help you observe your cycle and view an estimated fertile window, but Google does not position it as a family-planning or contraceptive tool. The official guidance is to consult a doctor about conception and pregnancy. An estimate can be wrong even when your entries are complete, and the risk of error is especially important when cycles are irregular or affected by medication or contraception.

How do I delete Cycle health data?
Current Google Health instructions provide three deletion scopes:
- Today’s cycle data: remove entries for the current day.
- All Cycle health data: delete the complete set of cycle-health information held in the feature.
- Custom date range: remove records between dates you choose.
Review the confirmation screen carefully before deleting. Removing historical entries can change the history used for later predictions and trend summaries.
What happens to data on a legacy Fitbit account?
Google’s cited data-collection explanation for legacy Fitbit account users says that enabling Fitbit app features involves processing, collecting and storing health and wellness information. That information can come from manual entries, a paired device or connected third-party services.
That legacy-account explanation should not be treated as a complete description of data handling for every current Google account. Your account type, migration status and enabled connections matter. Use the privacy and account controls shown in your current Google Health settings, and remove connected services you no longer use.
What are the most common logging mistakes?
- Recording flow but not a period: flow-detail logging is separate, so the calendar may still lack a period entry.
- Assuming the default is your baseline: the 28-day cycle and five-day period are starting assumptions used when setup information is missing.
- Reading an estimate as a measurement: the fertile window and ovulation day are calculated predictions.
- Expecting trends immediately: Google says trend summaries typically require three completed cycles.
- Following an obsolete menu path: the former Fitbit app has been transitioning to Google Health, and watch instructions vary by model.
- Using it despite a major cycle-changing factor: medications, health conditions and hormonal birth control can make predictions less reliable.
How should you interpret a prediction that looks wrong?
- Check that the period start and end dates are correct and that you did not enter flow details without recording the period itself.
- Review recent cycles for missing, duplicated or unusually dated entries.
- Confirm that any OPK result was entered on the correct date and is clearly understood as a logged test result, not a diagnosis.
- Continue logging consistently so the app has current information for later estimates.
- If the pattern is concerning, or if medication, contraception or a health condition may be affecting your cycle, discuss it with a qualified healthcare provider.
There is no official accuracy percentage in the available Google documentation. The published figures describe how the product calculates and displays estimates, not how often those estimates match an individual’s biological cycle.

What should you compare if you are considering another cycle tracker?
If you compare Cycle health with another service, focus on capabilities rather than a headline accuracy claim. Useful questions include:
- Can you manually log period dates, flow and symptoms separately?
- Can you enter ovulation-test results, and does the service explain what those results do and do not prove?
- Are predictions based on your entered history, direct sensor measurements, test results, or a mixture?
- Does the service clearly state that estimates are not contraception or medical advice?
- Can you delete a single day, a date range and all cycle data?
- Which phones, watches, operating systems and account types are supported?
The available Google documentation does not establish a ranked alternative or a comparative accuracy result, so no competitor can be responsibly declared better on that evidence alone.
Bottom line: what is Fitbit’s menstrual health feature good for?
Cycle health is best understood as a convenient log and pattern-spotting tool. It can organize your entries, show estimated timing and summarize recent cycle history without requiring a watch. Its usefulness depends on accurate, consistent input, and its predictions remain estimates. Keep it separate from contraception, diagnosis and other medical decisions, and use a healthcare professional when your cycle or fertility raises concerns.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does entering an OPK result confirm that I ovulated?
No. The app can store the result and use it in its estimate, but a logged OPK result is not the same as clinical confirmation that ovulation occurred. Treat the calendar as an estimate even when a test result is present.
Why can my cycle trend change after it looked stable?
Several trend calculations use a rolling six-month window. As a new cycle is added and an older one leaves that window, the median and variability summary can change without any setting being altered.
Will old Fitbit instructions work in Google Health?
Not necessarily. The app transition changed labels and navigation, and watch support can vary by model and account type. Use the current Google Health instructions for your specific device instead of assuming an older Fitbit path is identical.
Is an ovulation predictor kit required to use Cycle health?
No. OPK results are an optional entry. The feature can generate estimates from your logged period and cycle information without a kit or a Fitbit watch.
