Four independent makers stood out in a 2022 Geneva Watch Week report: Philippe Narbel, Yosuke Sekiguchi, Marco Lang and Sylvain Pinaud. Their watches offer sharply different takes on hand-led construction, from a sculptural dial and historically inspired movement to a reversible case and an off-centred display. The original feature cautioned that some pieces were prototypes or had only just been completed, so its specifications and prices are a dated snapshot—not confirmation of current production or availability.
Four makers, four distinct ideas
The original feature, published by Monochrome Watches on 1 May 2022, used “artisanal” to describe work carried out by a maker alone or with a small team. The four watches below illustrate that approach in different ways; they are not a ranking, and the descriptions reflect what the feature reported at the time.

All figures in the table are historical prices reported by Monochrome Watches in its 2022 feature. They are not verified current prices. The article also noted that some watches were prototypes or had been finished shortly before the fair.
Philippe Narbel: Narbel & Co Roots
Narbel began as a jewellery maker, moved into watchmaking and developed his skills at Audemars Piguet. He operated the Narbel & Co atelier alongside Manufactor SA, a company specializing in finishing techniques. The Roots was presented as the first watch under his own name.

Its 40 × 40 × 10 mm TV-screen-shaped case frames a German-silver dial coated in grey-black PVD. At the centre is a square sterling-silver panel with a pattern that originated in a mistake Narbel made during his jewellery-making years. The movement is a heavily reworked and upgraded Peseux 7001, reshaped to match the case and finished with frosting, engraving and hand-applied anglage. The feature listed steel and rose-gold versions, manual winding and a bespoke strap.
Yosuke Sekiguchi: Primevère
Born in Isesaki, Japan, Sekiguchi trained in France and Switzerland and worked for movement specialist La Joux-Perret and independent maker Christophe Claret. Restoring an 1871 Jules Jürgensen pocket-watch movement inspired the Primevère.

The feature described a movement largely constructed by Sekiguchi, with German-silver bridges cut and finished by hand. A two-piece Grand Feu enamel dial was offered in white or black, in a 39.5 mm steel or rose-gold case measuring 12 mm thick. The watch was reported as made to order and specified with a 40-hour power reserve. Ordering status and current prices have not been verified.
Marco Lang: Zweigesicht-1
Known for the former Lang & Heyne, Lang had previously restored clocks and scientific instruments before beginning a solo project under his own name. The Zweigesicht-1’s defining feature is a case that can be turned around: remove the lug ends with a special screwdriver, rotate the case, then refit the lugs to wear either its conventional or openworked display side.

The reported options were steel, rose gold or platinum. Inside is Lang’s ML-01 movement, with a double-barrel system, a handmade four-legged balance wheel and a shock-indication system. The 2022 feature described the model as limited to 18 pieces and gave a starting price excluding VAT; neither production status nor availability is established as current.
Sylvain Pinaud: Origine
Pinaud studied watchmaking at Lycée Edgar Faure in Morteau and had previously made a Chronograph Monopoussoir. The Origine was described as a 40 mm-wide, 11 mm-thick stainless-steel watch with an off-centred time display, small seconds and a visible escapement.

According to the feature, Pinaud or specialist subcontractors made nearly everything in the movement, while jewels and springs were outsourced. Comblemine made the dial. The reported specifications included a 55-hour power reserve and 30-metre water resistance, with bespoke options available on request. These are specifications reported in 2022, not independently confirmed current details.

- Design: Roots turns a jewellery-making accident into a central dial motif; Primevère looks to a restored 19th-century pocket-watch movement; Zweigesicht-1 makes reversibility its feature; Origine arranges its display off-centre around a visible escapement.
- Movement and finishing: Narbel reworked a Peseux 7001; Sekiguchi built much of the Primevère movement and hand-finished its bridges; Lang’s ML-01 combines a double-barrel system with a handmade balance wheel; Pinaud’s movement involved both his own work and specialist subcontractors.
- Making: The descriptions show different balances between an individual maker’s work and specialist contributions. They do not establish that every component was made in-house by any one maker.
What the Geneva Watch Week report does—and does not—establish
The four watches belong to a 2022 snapshot, and the original feature explicitly allowed for prototype or recently completed examples. Its reported prices, options and production notes should therefore be read as historical information rather than a guide to present-day ordering. Separate 2026 reporting describes independent-watchmaking gatherings at Time to Watches’ Village at Villa Sarasin and an exhibition at Beau-Rivage, but it does not establish that Narbel, Sekiguchi, Lang or Pinaud participated in those events.
