Enjoying a watch doesn’t require owning it
A watch can be interesting because of its design, mechanics, history, or the way its details come together. Those qualities can be appreciated without buying the watch. Fratello puts the idea plainly: “We believe it should still be possible to praise and enjoy a watch (or any other object of fascination) from a distance and on its merits alone.”
That distinction matters in a hobby where admiration can quickly turn into a question of affordability. You can like a particular watch, learn about it, or discuss what makes it distinctive without treating ownership as the price of admission.
Price matters, but it isn’t the whole judgment
Fratello’s point isn’t that cost is irrelevant. Price is part of deciding whether a watch makes sense for you. The warning is against letting price—or any single attribute—settle whether a watch is worth appreciating at all.

The same applies to size or water resistance. These details may be important for a particular wearer or use, but focusing on one criterion to the exclusion of everything else can narrow the pleasure of looking at watches. A model need not suit your budget or needs to have qualities worth noticing.
