Yes—but not everywhere at once. Samsung released One UI 8 Watch, based on Wear OS 6, for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic. In India, at least one Bluetooth-only 44mm variant received the August 2025 security update immediately before the much larger One UI 8 Watch upgrade. That sequence was regional and model-dependent, not a universal release for every Watch 4, LTE version, country, or carrier.
What was actually released?
One UI 8 Watch is a major platform upgrade, not simply another security patch. Samsung’s firmware history identifies the underlying platform as AndroidWear 6.0, or Wear OS 6, and labels the update “One UI 8 Watch Upgrade.”

For the Galaxy Watch4 Bluetooth model SM-R870, Samsung lists:
| Build | Release date | Platform | Patch level | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| R870XXU1IYI1 | October 29, 2025 | Wear OS 6 | August 1, 2025 | Earlier Wear OS 6 firmware |
| R870XXU1JYK4 | December 22, 2025 | Wear OS 6 | October 1, 2025 | One UI 8 Watch upgrade |

Why some owners received two updates back-to-back
Samsung’s staged rollout produced a particularly confusing sequence in India. SamMobile reported that a Bluetooth-only 44mm Galaxy Watch 4 variant received:
- IYI4, approximately 142MB, containing the August 2025 security patch.
- JYK4, approximately 1.7GB, upgrading the watch to One UI 8 Watch and Wear OS 6.
Both updates reportedly arrived on the same day for that variant. This explains the “immediately after” claim, but it should not be interpreted as proof that every Galaxy Watch 4 owner received the same two downloads in the same order. Samsung warns that firmware availability and changes vary by model, country, and network operator.
Samsung’s original August 5, 2025 announcement said One UI 8 Watch would expand beyond the Galaxy Watch8 series later in the year. It did not promise a simultaneous global Watch 4 release.
Which Galaxy Watch 4 models are included?
The supported family includes the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Early rollout reporting covered selected Bluetooth models, including some 40mm Watch 4 and 42mm and 46mm Classic variants. Certain 44mm and LTE versions were excluded from some initial Asian-market releases.
Eligibility depends on more than the product name. Check the exact:
- Model and case size
- Bluetooth or LTE version
- Country and CSC/region
- Carrier or unlocked status
A firmware number from one model—such as SM-R870—cannot establish that every Watch 4 received the update.

Samsung’s change log for build JYK4 lists several interface and convenience features:
- Now bar: Shows ongoing tasks at the bottom of the watch face.
- Double pinch: Can scroll notifications, control music, take photos, and trigger other assigned actions.
- Important reminders: Reminders can be starred and pinned.
- Charging effects: Adds new charging visuals.
- Smarter notifications: Lets users choose whether notifications appear on a smart device, or on both phone and watch.
- Calendar selection: Allows users to choose which phone calendars appear on the watch.
Samsung also describes health-related improvements, but health features can depend on Watch 4 hardware, country, Samsung Health, and the paired phone. One UI 8 Watch is not the phone version of One UI 8; it is Samsung’s watch interface running on Wear OS 6.
How to check for the update
- On the watch, open Settings → Software update → Download and install.
- In the Galaxy Wearable app, check the watch’s software-update section.
- Open Settings → About watch and record the model number and current software version.
- Update Galaxy Wearable and the Watch 4 plug-in before checking again.
Before installing a major upgrade, charge the watch, keep it connected to Wi-Fi or its paired phone, and back up important watch data. Samsung specifically advises backing up data before updating because errors can occur during the process.

If One UI 8 Watch does not appear
An absent update does not necessarily mean the watch is unsupported. Common explanations include a different model number, an LTE variant, a regional or carrier delay, a staged rollout, or an August patch that has not yet been installed.
Try reconnecting the watch, updating the Galaxy Wearable app and plug-in, and checking again from both the watch and phone. Then compare your exact model with the appropriate regional Samsung firmware page. Do not install a firmware package from another market simply because its model name looks similar; model, CSC, bootloader, data-loss, and warranty risks can apply.
Should you install it?
For most owners whose update is officially offered, One UI 8 Watch is worthwhile because it brings the Watch 4 to Wear OS 6 and adds a substantial set of interface features. It also extends the useful life of a 2021 watch beyond its original software generation.
There are reasons to be cautious. The upgrade can be roughly 1.7GB, and SamMobile reported user complaints involving sluggishness, battery drain, and sensor behavior on some Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic units. Those are reported experiences, not universal test results. If your watch is mission-critical, has limited free storage, or already has poor battery health, waiting briefly for regional feedback may be sensible.
After updating, allow several charging cycles before judging battery life. If problems are severe, restart the watch, update watch apps through Google Play, check Samsung Health and the plug-in, and back up before considering a reset. Persistent installation, pairing, sensor, or recovery problems should be directed to Samsung Support.
Is this the last major Watch 4 update?
Current coverage from Android Central and SamMobile describes One UI 8 Watch as the final major platform or UI upgrade for the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic.
That does not mean the final firmware update. Samsung’s SM-R870 history lists later maintenance releases, including builds in January and March 2026. The practical distinction is that future releases may provide security, stability, or maintenance fixes without bringing another major Wear OS or One UI generation.
The verdict
The headline is based on a real event, but it needs a regional qualification. Galaxy Watch 4 models did receive One UI 8 Watch and Wear OS 6. In India, one Bluetooth-only 44mm variant received the August security patch immediately before the major upgrade. Availability for your watch depends on its exact model, connectivity version, region, and carrier—and a delayed update does not by itself mean your watch was excluded.
