If your Galaxy Watch Ultra is losing charge in hours, first open its battery-usage view and identify the app or feature at the top. Then restart the watch, install watch and app updates, and test the display, notifications, network radios, GPS and health-sensor settings one change at a time. A new watch can use more power during setup and app installation for about the first week. If charging is slow or intermittent, inspect the watch and charging puck and use a Samsung-approved charger. How do I see what is using the battery?
Measure before changing many settings. The battery screen or the Galaxy Wearable companion app can show which app or function is consuming power, estimated remaining time, charging time and a battery chart. Record the top consumer and the remaining percentage, then make one change and observe the next comparable period. This prevents you from disabling several features without knowing which one mattered.

- On the paired phone, open Galaxy Wearable and its battery information to compare app and function usage.
- Note whether the largest consumer is an app, the display, a network radio, GPS or a health sensor.
- Check again after a restart and after the watch has completed pending installations or updates.

What should I try first when the Galaxy Watch Ultra loses charge quickly?
The lowest-risk sequence is restart, update, display test, notification and background-app cleanup, connection and sensor tests, then charging inspection. Change only the settings relevant to the top battery consumer and keep track of the result.
1. Restart the watch
Hold the Power button until the Samsung logo appears, then allow the watch to boot fully. A Samsung Members moderator says a simple restart can resolve a temporary issue. Reopen the battery screen after startup; a process that was stuck in the background may no longer appear at the top.
2. Update watch software and apps
In Galaxy Wearable, go to Watch settings > About watch > Update watch software and install any offered update. Then update watch applications through Galaxy Store. Keep the watch on its charger during a lengthy update if the app requests it, and review battery use after installation rather than judging drain while downloads are still running.
Samsung’s SM-L700 update record lists build L700XXS2BZF4, Android Wear 6.0, released July 6, 2026, with a July 5, 2026 security patch. Availability varies by model, country and carrier, so the build shown on your watch may differ. The presence of an update does not by itself prove that an earlier build caused your drain.

3. Close or remove a suspect app
Close recent or background apps, then check the battery list again. If drain began after installing one application or watch face, uninstall that addition temporarily and compare usage. Google specifically recommends removing a recently installed app when the timing matches a sudden loss of battery. Reinstall only after the watch returns to normal and the app has an available update.

Can the display or watch face cause rapid drain?
Yes. Always On Display, high brightness, long screen timeouts and animated or interactive watch faces make the screen wake or remain active more often. Test these settings before changing deeper system options.
Turn off Always On Display for a controlled test
- Open Settings > Display on the watch.
- Turn Always On Display off.
- Shorten the screen timeout and reduce brightness to a comfortable level.
- Use a simple, static watch face for the next charging cycle.
If endurance improves, re-enable one feature at a time to find the compromise you prefer. A static face may reduce animation and complications while preserving the information you actually need; the exact saving depends on how often your current face and complications refresh.
How do notifications and background activity wake the watch?
Each notification can wake the screen, vibrate the motor and exchange wireless data. Frequent alerts therefore combine display, vibration and radio activity even when you are not actively using the watch.
Reduce unnecessary wake-ups
- In Galaxy Wearable, open the notification controls for the watch.
- Disable Turn on screen when notifications received if you do not need every alert to light the display.
- Remove notifications from apps that do not need to reach your wrist.
- Close recent apps after intensive tasks such as navigation or media control, then recheck the battery chart.
Do not disable safety-critical alerts merely to save power. Start with promotional, social or duplicate notifications and keep calls, messages or health alerts that you rely on.

Should I turn off Wi-Fi or LTE?
Test network radios when they are not needed, especially where the watch has a weak signal. A watch that repeatedly searches for Wi-Fi or mobile service can consume significant power. The trade-off is immediate: turning off a radio disconnects features that require that network.
Bluetooth-first test
For a short diagnostic period, keep the watch paired by Bluetooth and turn Wi-Fi off when you are near the phone. If your model has mobile service, set Mobile networks to Always off while testing away from LTE coverage. Restore the setting when you need standalone calls, messages, streaming or other cellular functions.
- Use Wi-Fi: when the phone is unavailable and a known, strong network is needed.
- Use LTE: when you intentionally need the watch to operate without the phone.
- Turn radios off: during travel, sleep or other periods when you do not need network-dependent features and want to avoid signal searching.
Compare battery usage in the same location and activity. A change seen only in a poor-coverage area points to signal searching rather than a defective battery.
How do GPS and health tracking affect battery use?
GPS is most demanding during workouts or navigation because the watch continuously determines location. Frequent heart-rate, stress or other health checks also add sensor work. Samsung recommends disabling GPS outside workouts and reducing heart-rate or stress checks while troubleshooting.
Use a lower-power sensor schedule temporarily
- Turn off location or GPS when you are not recording a workout or navigation route.
- Set heart-rate or stress measurement to every 10 minutes or manual-only for the test period.
- Run one normal workout with the settings you actually need, then compare it with idle time rather than comparing unlike activities.
- Restore continuous or more frequent measurements when the health information is important to you.
These changes reduce data frequency; they do not repair a hardware fault. If the battery still falls rapidly when GPS, workouts and frequent measurements are all off, return to the battery-usage list and charging checks.

Does Power Saving mode fix Galaxy Watch Ultra drain?
Power Saving can be a useful emergency measure and diagnostic, but it changes the watch’s behavior. Samsung says it reduces brightness and background and wireless functions; it also turns off Wi-Fi and mobile data. Performance and network-dependent features are therefore limited.
Enable it when you need the watch to last until a charger is available or when you want to see whether reduced background and radio activity changes the drain. Do not treat a longer runtime in Power Saving as proof that the battery is healthy under normal settings; it only shows that lower activity uses less energy.
Could the charger, battery or temperature be the real problem?
A watch can appear to “drain” quickly when it never reached a full charge, charges intermittently or loses charge because the puck or watch is damaged. Inspect both surfaces and the charging cable or adapter for physical or liquid damage. Also consider where the watch is being charged and used: Samsung warns that very hot or very cold conditions can shorten battery life and cause damage.

- Confirm that the watch sits correctly on the charging puck and that the charging indicator remains stable.
- Inspect the watch back, puck and cable for cracks, bent parts, corrosion or liquid exposure.
- Allow a hot or cold watch to return to a normal room temperature before charging.
- Use only a Samsung-approved charger and accessories designed for the device. Samsung states: “The Watch cannot be charged properly with a third-party charger.”
- If charging remains slow, intermittent or incomplete with approved equipment, stop treating it as a settings problem and arrange service.
Do not continue using visibly damaged equipment. A replacement, device-specific charging puck is appropriate only when the existing hardware is missing, damaged or unreliable; it will not fix software-driven consumption.

Keep the model and region in mind when checking update records. The SM-L700 build listed above is one Samsung record, not a guarantee that every Ultra received the same package on the same date.
