Galaxy Watch Ultra price leak revealed Samsung’s highest-priced Galaxy Watch in 2024

The Galaxy Watch Ultra leak pointed to a €699 French price. Here is how that figure compared with Samsung’s eventual $649.99 U.S. MSRP and the watch’s final hardware.

A July 2, 2024 leak reported a French price of €699 for Samsung’s then-unannounced Galaxy Watch Ultra. That was a regional leak, not a U.S. price: Samsung later set the 2024 Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE’s official U.S. MSRP at $649.99. The figures established Samsung’s move into a much higher-priced, rugged smartwatch category, while several leaked specifications required correction or confirmation.

What the Galaxy Watch Ultra leak actually said

The report published by 9to5Google on July 2, 2024 described a French-market price of €699 for a product sometimes called the “Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra” in early leaks. Samsung’s final name was Galaxy Watch Ultra.

The leak presented the following as expected specifications:

  • Approximately 47mm case
  • 590mAh battery
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 32GB of storage
  • 5ATM water resistance
  • Display and dimensions larger than the standard Galaxy Watch7 models

These were unconfirmed claims at the time. A European price cannot be converted directly into a U.S. MSRP because taxes, currency movements and regional pricing differ.

Why €699 was such a significant signal

At €699, the Ultra would sit well above Samsung’s mainstream Galaxy Watch range. It signaled that Samsung was not simply adding another fitness watch; it was targeting buyers who wanted a large, durable, outdoor-oriented device and were willing to pay for specialized hardware.

That positioning was borne out in the United States. Samsung’s July 2024 wearable MSRP file lists the Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE at $649.99, while the regular Galaxy Watch7 configurations were priced below it. The official list is available in Samsung’s July 2024 MSRP document.

Calling it Samsung’s “costliest watch” needs a time and market qualification. At the 2024 U.S. launch, it was the highest-priced mainstream Galaxy Watch model. The leaked French figure similarly placed it above the regular models in that market. That does not establish that it was Samsung’s most expensive wearable in every country, configuration or later generation.

The water-resistance claim is the clearest mismatch: the leak said 5ATM, while Samsung’s subsequent corporate documentation specifies 10ATM. The official specification should be treated as authoritative. The price was directionally right about the premium tier, but that does not make every leaked detail accurate.

What Samsung officially announced

Samsung introduced the Galaxy Watch Ultra alongside the Galaxy Watch7 at Galaxy Unpacked in July 2024. Its announcement materials describe a 47mm titanium watch built for outdoor use, with LTE connectivity, dual-frequency GPS and a 590mAh battery. Samsung also highlighted sleep-apnea detection, AGEs Index measurements and other health-monitoring functions.

Samsung’s announcement is covered in this Galaxy Watch Ultra overview, while the company’s wearables release details appear in Samsung Mobile Press.

Later corporate documentation lists approximate dimensions of 47.4 × 47.1 × 12.1mm, a weight of 60.5g, the Exynos W1000 processor, Wear OS 5 and 10ATM water resistance. It also gives Samsung’s battery estimate of up to 100 hours in power-saving mode—not a normal mixed-use runtime. Those specifications are listed in Samsung’s interim report.

What the premium paid for

Titanium construction and a larger format

The Ultra uses a Grade 4 titanium construction and a 47mm cushion-style case with a dynamic lug system. That creates a more substantial, rugged design than the regular Watch7, but the 60.5g weight and large dimensions can be uncomfortable on smaller wrists or during sleep.

Battery and outdoor durability

The 590mAh cell is considerably more ambitious than a typical everyday smartwatch battery. Combined with 10ATM water resistance and outdoor-focused controls, it is aimed at users who spend long periods hiking, cycling, running or swimming. “Up to 100 hours” applies specifically to Samsung’s power-saving mode; display brightness, GPS, LTE, workouts and notifications can reduce endurance.

Positioning and navigation

Dual-frequency GPS is intended to improve location accuracy in difficult environments such as dense urban areas or tree cover. The Exynos W1000 and Wear OS 5 provide the performance and software platform for Samsung’s premium model, while LTE allows calls and data away from a phone. LTE hardware still requires compatible carrier activation and a separate cellular plan.

The trade-offs buyers should consider

  • Size and weight: A 47mm, 60.5g watch is not the best fit for users who prefer a discreet or lightweight device.
  • Price: The launch MSRP was substantially above regular Galaxy Watch7 models, and discounts or trade-in credits do not change that official list price.
  • Specialized design: Notifications, sleep tracking, payments and ordinary gym workouts do not require Ultra-specific hardware.
  • Durability limits: Titanium and 10ATM resistance improve protection but do not make the watch indestructible.
  • Battery variability: Actual runtime depends on connectivity, exercise tracking, display settings and the selected power mode.
  • Health-feature conditions: Availability can vary by phone, region and software version; health measurements should not be treated as medical diagnoses.

Who should buy an Ultra rather than a regular Galaxy Watch?

The Ultra makes sense for

  • Samsung phone owners who need LTE and a large battery
  • Trail runners, hikers, cyclists, swimmers and other outdoor users
  • Buyers who specifically value titanium construction, 10ATM resistance and dual-frequency GPS
  • People who want Samsung’s most premium 2024 Galaxy Watch design

A regular Galaxy Watch is the better choice for

  • Users seeking a smaller, lighter watch
  • Anyone focused on notifications, sleep tracking and routine workouts
  • Buyers unwilling to pay a large premium for rugged hardware
  • People who do not need LTE or the Ultra’s larger battery

Do not confuse the leak with current pricing

Samsung’s current U.S. buying page lists a $649.99 price signal for a 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra refresh: Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra page. That page cannot be used to rewrite what was known in the July 2024 leak, nor does it prove that €699 was ever a U.S. launch price.

Likewise, launch MSRP, sale pricing, preorder credits, bundles and trade-in offers are different figures. A buyer should identify the market, model year, LTE or Bluetooth configuration and whether a promotion is reducing the checkout price.

Verdict

The €699 leak correctly foreshadowed Samsung’s first Ultra-branded Galaxy Watch entering a premium price tier. Samsung’s eventual U.S. MSRP was $649.99 for the 2024 LTE model, not a nominal $699 conversion. The price bought a genuinely different package—titanium, a 590mAh battery, 10ATM resistance, dual-frequency GPS, LTE and outdoor-focused features—but the 47mm size and high cost make the regular Galaxy Watch7 a better value for ordinary smartwatch use.
