Samsung included the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic in its One UI 6 Watch rollout, announced on November 19, 2024. It was a phased expansion, not a single US launch date for every watch. In 2026, some Watch4 models have moved on to One UI 8 Watch, so check the latest update offered for your exact model rather than looking specifically for One UI 6.
Which Galaxy Watch4 models were included?
Samsung named both the Galaxy Watch4 and Galaxy Watch4 Classic in its One UI 6 Watch expansion, alongside the Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch6, Watch6 Classic, and Galaxy Watch FE. Samsung said the rollout would begin on November 19, 2024, and expand around the world; it did not promise one delivery date for every US model. Samsung’s announcement confirms eligibility, not simultaneous availability.
Bluetooth and LTE editions can use different firmware channels. Carrier-branded LTE watches may also depend on carrier schedules, while an imported watch may follow its original sales region rather than the country where it is currently used.
What One UI 6 Watch brought to the Watch4
The update carried selected newer-watch software features to eligible older models. It did not make the Watch4 equivalent to a Galaxy Watch7 or Watch Ultra, whose hardware and feature support differ.

Energy Score
Samsung describes Energy Score as a summary based on health indicators including sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate, and heart-rate variability during sleep. It is a wellness insight, not a medical diagnosis. Availability can depend on the watch, paired phone, market, and supported Samsung Health features. Samsung’s rollout announcement explains the metrics.
Watch faces and health tools
One UI 6 Watch also brought new or refreshed watch faces and health and fitness improvements. Samsung’s One UI 6 Watch overview describes the software experience, but feature availability varies by model and market. A software update cannot add sensors that the Watch4 does not have, and some functions require a compatible Samsung phone or depend on country and regulatory support.

How to check for and install an update
With Galaxy Wearable on your phone
- Charge the watch and keep it near its paired Android phone. Samsung says some watches require at least 30% battery to update; charging it further is sensible before starting.
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the phone.
- Tap Watch settings, then Watch software update.
- Tap Download and install if an update is offered, and keep the devices connected while it downloads and installs.
- Allow the watch to restart and finish its progress indicator before using it.
These are Samsung’s current instructions for Galaxy Watch3 and newer models; screens and labels can vary by software version. See Samsung’s US watch-update support page.
Directly on the watch
- Open Settings on the watch.
- Swipe up and tap Software update.
- Choose Download and install if an update is available.
A phone is still needed for pairing and normal Galaxy Wearable functions, even if you start the update on the watch. Before either method, use a stable connection, keep the watch charged, and avoid interrupting the installation or restart. Back up watch data through Galaxy Wearable where that option is available.

Why an update may not appear
- Phased availability: Samsung’s announcement described an expansion, not a single release instant for all watches. Eligibility does not mean firmware was assigned to every model and region at once.
- Model or carrier channel: Bluetooth and LTE variants have different model numbers; an LTE release may also await carrier approval. A US carrier’s schedule or build number should not be assumed to apply to every Watch4.
- Regional variant: Imported watches can receive firmware according to their sales region, even when used in the US.
- App, connection, or charge: Update Galaxy Wearable, keep the phone and watch close and connected, and ensure the watch has enough battery. Samsung says some devices need at least 30% charge.
- Phone- or market-dependent features: Installing the software does not guarantee that every health feature will appear; some functions require a compatible phone or are limited by market availability.
- Newer software already installed: The watch may have moved beyond One UI 6 Watch. In that case, there is no One UI 6 update left to install.
Check the Watch4’s current software version
In Galaxy Wearable, open Watch settings → About watch and review the model and software details. Depending on the version, you may see a software or build number, Wear OS/AndroidWear version, and security patch level. Labels can differ slightly.
Samsung’s update history for the Bluetooth Galaxy Watch4 model SM-R870 records a One UI 8 Watch upgrade, corresponding to Wear OS 6, and a later build released on June 22, 2026. That record shows that at least this variant progressed beyond One UI 6; it does not establish the same release for every Watch4 model or carrier. Check the matching model-specific record at Samsung’s SM-R870 update page. As a US carrier example, Verizon’s Watch4 update page lists One UI 8 firmware for its specified LTE variants, not all US watches.

Should you install the offered update now?
Installing the latest update offered for your own model is the route to its supported software, security, and reliability changes. If the watch is essential for an imminent trip or workout, or its battery is already unreliable, you can wait until you have time to complete the update and check how that specific carrier’s release is performing. There is no basis here for promising a particular battery-life change. The Watch4’s hardware remains unchanged, so a software update cannot supply newer-watch sensors or guarantee feature parity with newer models.
