The redesigned Casio G-Shock Rangeman is the GPR-H1000, a large, GPS-equipped outdoor watch that adds heart-rate and activity tracking to the Rangeman’s instrument set. Its appeal depends on whether those extra functions matter more to you than its substantial size and the USB charging needed for full sensor use.
Which watch is the redesigned Rangeman?
The model covered here is the GPR-H1000, available in black as the GPR-H1000-1 and yellow as the GPR-H1000-9. Casio places it in the land-oriented Master of G range. It is not the GW-9500: Casio classifies that watch as a MUDMAN, a separate model that is useful for comparison but should not be mistaken for this Rangeman. How big is it on the wrist?
Weppelink’s 2024 review gives the GPR-H1000’s dimensions as 53.2 mm across, 60.6 mm long and 20.3 mm thick, with a weight of 92 g. He also reports 20 bar water resistance, mineral glass, a resin case with metal parts and a urethane strap. These are specifications reported in that review, not independent measurements.
Those dimensions make this a watch with pronounced wrist presence. Weppelink describes the case as very large, but found its relatively light build and soft strap comfortable for him. That is one wearer’s impression; fit will depend on wrist shape and personal tolerance for a wide, thick case.

What outdoor functions does the GPR-H1000 offer?
Casio advertises GPS and a sensor suite that includes a compass, pressure sensor and thermometer. The pressure sensor supports altimeter and barometer functions; the review also describes tide and moon data, sunrise and sunset times, and automatic level correction for the compass.
Location: tracking is not route planning
The review says a connected smartphone app can support route tracking. That is different from following a planned route on the watch: Weppelink notes that the GPR-H1000 does not offer route-planning navigation like the previous generation. If you need turn-by-turn or planned-course guidance on your wrist, do not assume that GPS alone provides it.

Activity and health features
Alongside its outdoor instruments, the watch adds heart-rate sensing, step tracking, a gyroscope, sleep and activity functions, and related fitness metrics. The review lists nine activity types: trekking, running, biking, gym workout, interval timer, pool swimming, open-water swimming, trail running and walking. Listed activity data include distance, direction, altitude, climbing speed, elapsed time, pace, heart rate and calories.
These are advertised or review-described functions, not evidence of independently verified sensor accuracy or medical-grade health measurement. Treat the metrics as activity-watch information rather than a substitute for clinical devices.

How does charging affect everyday use?
The review describes both USB charging and solar-assisted charging. According to Weppelink, USB charging is required for full sensor use, while solar charging can sustain basic time display. That makes charging a practical part of using the watch as an outdoor instrument, rather than a detail to ignore when choosing it. The cited material does not establish a single all-feature runtime; actual time between charges depends on how functions are used.
What is it like to operate?
Weppelink found the menus and controls manageable once he learned the functions, while noting that the breadth of features takes time to understand. The GPR-H1000 is better approached as a multifunction instrument than as a simple time-only G-Shock: buyers should be willing to learn its controls and decide which tools they will use regularly.

Choose the Rangeman if its GPS and broader fitness feature set are worth the size and charging demands to you. The GW-9500 is the more plausible fit if a thinner profile and simpler outdoor instrumentation matter more.
