The new watches pair Swiss chronograph heritage with modern specifications, but the current catalog alone cannot establish real-world accuracy, comfort or long-term reliability. Whether one is worth buying depends on which design and complication you want, the price you are willing to pay, and how you weigh a new watch against a reference-specific vintage purchase.
What is Gallet?
Gallet is a Swiss watch name with a history dating to the 19th century. According to Watchonista’s September 4, 2026 launch report, Julien Gallet established Gallet & Co. in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1826. The report says the brand supplied precision timers used by the Wright brothers for their 1903 powered flight, became known for chronographs from the 1930s through the 1960s, and later went dormant in the 1990s after disruption following the quartz crisis.
Breitling acquired Gallet in 2025, according to that same report, and relaunched the brand in 2026. The current watches are manufactured within Breitling’s infrastructure. That gives the revival an established manufacturing connection, but it does not by itself establish how the watches will perform or hold up over years of use.
What does Gallet sell now, and how much does it cost?

How do the Flying Officer and Multichron Pilot compare?
Both are automatic chronographs with Gallet’s listed caliber 23 and approximately 65 hours of power reserve. Their stated case dimensions and dial functions point to different priorities: the Flying Officer carries a travel and time-zone theme, while the Multichron Pilot emphasizes timing features associated with aviation and distance estimation.

- COMFORTABLE CUFF FIT Wide PU leather cuff helps solve the stiff, narrow-strap feel many casual watches have; the buckle adjusts from 19 cm to 22 cm, giving this vintage leather cuff watch a secure fit for daily wear, costumes, and relaxed styling.
- EASY ANALOG READING Busy outfits need a watch that still reads clearly; the green round dial, distinct hands, and Roman numeral markers make this analog quartz wristwatch easy to check while keeping a retro punk look for workdays, events, or weekends.
- RETRO STYLE DETAIL When a standard watch feels too plain, the bronze-tone metal case, wide brown leather strap, and decorative snap accents create a cuff bracelet watch look that pairs well with denim, boots, jackets, cosplay, and vintage-inspired outfits.
- DAILY WEAR BUILD Designed for casual use, this battery powered quartz watch includes a metal case, alloy back cover, hard glass crystal, and buckle closure, helping reduce concerns about flimsy costume accessories while keeping the watch simple to put on and adjust.
- GIFT READY CHOICE A unisex vintage wristwatch works when sizing and style are hard to choose; suitable for birthday, Christmas, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, wedding party gifts, Thanksgiving, Halloween costumes, and everyday accessories.

Flying Officer: travel-themed chronograph
The Flying Officer name dates to 1939, according to Gallet’s product copy and Watchonista’s launch coverage. The modern Chronograph 40 retains the travel and time-zone theme, but its contemporary dimensions and movement mean it should be understood as a new watch informed by the heritage, not automatically as a faithful reproduction. Gallet lists several strap choices for this reference, including leather, metal, fabric and rubber; confirm the specific configuration and price with the live product listing.

Multichron Pilot: aviation timing features
Independent launch coverage describes the Multichron Pilot as having a bidirectional bezel for timed intervals, a date integrated into the 12-hour counter, lumed hands and indices, and a telemeter scale. A telemeter estimates distance using the time between seeing an event and hearing its sound—for example, the interval between lightning and thunder. These features make the Pilot’s presentation more explicitly focused on timing and aviation than the Flying Officer’s travel-oriented identity.
Is a Gallet watch worth buying?
The relaunch is appealing if you want a Swiss chronograph with a named historical lineage, modern specifications and manufacturing under Breitling’s roof. The listed USD 4,400 price for the two specified chronographs puts them at a substantial purchase price, so the decision should rest on whether you prefer their designs and functions over other watches you are considering—not on heritage alone.

- Vintage style hypoallergenic croc-print vegan leather bracelet with matching brass buckle.

The available official specifications and launch coverage do not establish comparative timekeeping accuracy, on-wrist comfort, durability, service response or long-term reliability. Gallet’s managing director, Erwan Rossignol, said the watches are manufactured within Breitling’s infrastructure to honor the brand’s heritage while delivering expected quality, reliability and service; that is the company’s stated intent, not independent evidence of those outcomes.
Before choosing a current model, compare its case size and thickness with your wrist and usual watches, inspect the dial and controls in person if possible, and confirm the exact configuration, taxes, availability, warranty and service arrangements with the seller. The 40 mm and 42 mm diameters do not tell the whole fit story, particularly with cases over 15 mm thick.

Should you buy a new or vintage Gallet?
A new Gallet offers current maker-published specifications and a direct connection to the relaunch. A vintage watch may offer a period design and a different price or collecting experience, but its condition and originality vary from piece to piece. Do not treat a vintage Gallet as a uniform product category: reference, age, service history and modifications all matter.
- Originality: Have the dial, hands, case and movement assessed together. Replacements or refinishing can affect both collectability and value.
- Condition and service: Request service records and ask a qualified watchmaker to inspect the specific watch. A seller’s description or listing photograph cannot establish mechanical condition.
- Parts and support: Establish whether a watchmaker familiar with the movement can service it and source any needed parts before committing to a costly purchase.
- Documentation: Compare the available papers and provenance with the exact reference; documentation should support, not substitute for, inspection.
The available vintage guidance does not provide a universal authentication procedure. For an expensive example, specialist inspection is a more defensible basis for a decision than an online listing alone.
How should you choose among the current Gallet models?
- Choose the Flying Officer if its travel and time-zone identity is the main attraction. The Chronograph 40 is the smaller of the two specified chronographs, though its 15.02 mm thickness may still wear prominently.
- Choose the Multichron Pilot if you want the 42 mm case and the reported bezel, telemeter and aviation-oriented display. The additional 2 mm in diameter and slightly greater thickness may make it feel larger on the wrist.
- Look at Multichron Sport if a sport-chronograph design is what you want, but verify the exact reference, price and specifications on the live catalog; the cited collections listing does not state a price for this family.
- Consider Gallet Classics if an anniversary tribute is more compelling than the newer collection’s pilot and travel themes. Gallet lists these at USD 6,700 and describes them as using Breitling manufacture caliber B09.
For any specific purchase, use the model reference—not just the collection name—when checking configuration, price, strap fit and service terms. Gallet lists the Flying Officer Chronograph 40 with several strap options, but compatibility of third-party straps with a particular reference should be verified before ordering.
