For a vintage tool-watch story, consider the Flying Officer, Multichron Pilot or Clamshell; for a contemporary watch, compare the 2026-relaunched Flying Officer, Multichron Pilot, Multichron Sport and Gallet Classics by function, size and movement.
Which Gallet watch should you consider?
Start with era and condition, then decide which job or design you want the watch to represent. Gallet’s official material says the company was founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1826 and is now manufactured by Breitling. Its bicentennial-era relaunched collection sits alongside a much older history of chronographs and tool watches; a modern tribute is not the same purchase as a vintage original.
- For world-time and aviation history: look at the Flying Officer, with its rotating city ring on the vintage model and a 24-destination bezel on the modern one.
- For exploration and second-time-zone timing: compare the vintage and modern Multichron Pilot.
- For speed and motorsport timing: the modern Multichron Sport is the current tachymeter-focused option; the vintage Multichron Pilot also connects aviation and motorsport functions.
- For regatta timing: the vintage Multichron Yachting and modern Tribute to Yachting Big Eye are the relevant designs.
- For dive-watch history: the Multichron Sub is the vintage direction in this shortlist.
The official histories and product pages establish model features and specifications, but do not establish vintage market prices, current vintage supply, or the condition and authenticity of individual examples.
Vintage Gallet watches: six historical models to know
These are historical models, not assurances that a particular example is available, correctly described by a seller, or in sound condition. Gallet’s current icons page lists the following dates, sizes and movements.
#1 Best Overall
| Model | Period and case | Movement listed | What distinguishes it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multichron Regulator | Circa 1935; 34 mm | Venus 140 | Gallet describes the chronograph hand at the center and the conventional 12-hour display at the top, arranged for quick reading. |
| Multichron Clamshell | 1938; 34.5 mm | Venus 150 | Gallet describes an early waterproof chronograph intended to resist dust, humidity and heavy rain, for activities such as speedboat racing and off-road expeditions. |
| Flying Officer | Introduced 1939; 34.5 mm | Venus 150 | A multi-time-zone tracker for pilots and long-distance travelers; its rotating city ring is its signature distinction. |
| Multichron Yachting | Circa 1960; 37 mm | Excelsior Park EP40 | A sailing chronograph with a five-minute regatta countdown for timing the start. |
| Multichron Sub | Circa 1960; 37 mm | AS1950/51 | A dive-watch direction produced under the Galco (Gallet & Co.) name as scuba diving grew in the 1960s. |
| Multichron Pilot | Circa 1969; 38 mm | Valjoux 72 or EP40 | A rotating 12-hour bezel alongside tachymeter and telemeter scales, with aviation and motorsport uses. |
These sizes are small by many contemporary-watch standards, which is part of the practical difference between collecting an original and buying a modern interpretation. The listed movement is a historical specification, not confirmation that a particular watch retains its original movement or is operating correctly.
Modern Gallet watches: compare the relaunched collection by use
Gallet’s 2026 materials describe a current collection with several distinct routes into the brand’s history. Approximate power reserves below are manufacturer-stated specifications, not independent test results.

- COMFORTABLE CUFF FIT Wide PU leather cuff helps solve the stiff, narrow-strap feel many casual watches have; the buckle adjusts from 19 cm to 22 cm, giving this vintage leather cuff watch a secure fit for daily wear, costumes, and relaxed styling.
- EASY ANALOG READING Busy outfits need a watch that still reads clearly; the green round dial, distinct hands, and Roman numeral markers make this analog quartz wristwatch easy to check while keeping a retro punk look for workdays, events, or weekends.
- RETRO STYLE DETAIL When a standard watch feels too plain, the bronze-tone metal case, wide brown leather strap, and decorative snap accents create a cuff bracelet watch look that pairs well with denim, boots, jackets, cosplay, and vintage-inspired outfits.
- DAILY WEAR BUILD Designed for casual use, this battery powered quartz watch includes a metal case, alloy back cover, hard glass crystal, and buckle closure, helping reduce concerns about flimsy costume accessories while keeping the watch simple to put on and adjust.
- GIFT READY CHOICE A unisex vintage wristwatch works when sizing and style are hard to choose; suitable for birthday, Christmas, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, wedding party gifts, Thanksgiving, Halloween costumes, and everyday accessories.

What the Gallet Classics tributes reference
- Tribute to Yachting Big Eye: draws on the 1960s regatta watch.
- Tribute to Multichron 45: reinterprets an interval-timing design associated with aviation and racing.
- Tribute to Silverlight: takes cues from the historic Multichron Navigator.
These are design relationships described by Gallet; they do not make the modern pieces vintage examples.

Flying Officer or Multichron Pilot: what is the difference?
The Flying Officer makes its city-based world-time display the clearest part of the design. Its modern 40 mm version is offered either as a three-hand watch or a chronograph, and its rotating bezel is organized around 24 destinations. The vintage model is smaller at 34.5 mm and is distinguished by its rotating city ring.
The modern Multichron Pilot is a 42 mm chronograph with a bi-directional bezel, date at 6 and telemeter scale. Gallet positions it for exploration and tracking a second time zone. The vintage Pilot, listed at 38 mm, combines a rotating 12-hour bezel with tachymeter and telemeter scales. Choose the Flying Officer if the city-ring or destination-bezel approach is the draw; choose the Pilot if you prefer the bezel-and-scale instrument layout.

What to check before buying a vintage Gallet
Official model histories can help you identify the intended design and listed specifications, but they cannot verify a seller’s individual watch. Treat a listing as a specific object to investigate, rather than assuming that a familiar model name settles what is inside the case.
- Reference and configuration: compare the claimed model, period, case size, dial layout and movement with the documented historical description.
- Condition: ask for clear, current photographs of the dial, case, caseback and movement where available, and details of any damage or replacement parts.
- Originality: request disclosure of replaced components or alterations. A correct-looking dial or case alone does not establish originality.
- Service history and function: ask when it was last serviced and what work was performed. A running watch is not, by itself, evidence of a recent service or long-term reliability.
- Seller documentation: seek written details, return terms and any supporting records. Do not treat a historical specification as authentication of the watch being offered.
No current vintage-market price or supply figure is established here. Compare the actual watch, its documentation and the seller’s terms; do not infer value from the model’s historical importance alone.

Gallet’s historical significance, in context
Gallet’s official account reports that Harry S. Truman called the Flying Officer “the most elaborate watch [he] ever saw.” That is a quotation as reported by Gallet, not an independently verified endorsement. It reflects the model’s reputation in the brand’s own historical telling, while the practical distinction for a collector remains its multi-time-zone design.
