The Garmin Venu X1 makes the most sense for buyers who want a remarkably thin Garmin with a large, map-friendly screen and broad fitness and training tools—and who are comfortable paying a premium and charging more often when the display stays on. Garmin’s US launch suggested retail price was $799.99; that is not a verified current street price. Its battery estimate is up to eight days in smartwatch mode, but only up to two days with the always-on display enabled.
What the Venu X1 offers
Garmin announced the Venu X1 on June 12, 2025, positioning it as a premium GPS smartwatch. Its defining combination is an 8 mm case and a 2-inch AMOLED display. Garmin also specifies a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, titanium caseback, built-in speaker and microphone, and LED flashlight. Garmin’s launch announcement set the US suggested retail price at $799.99 and said the watch would be available in June 2025.
The feature set is broader than the thin case might suggest: Garmin lists health and wellness monitoring, advanced training features, mapping, and more than 100 sports apps. The large screen is especially relevant if you want to read maps or workout information on your wrist. TechRadar and Android Central reviewers also highlighted the display, comfort, maps, and training tools in their hands-on reviews. Those are reviewer impressions, not controlled laboratory findings.
The built-in speaker and microphone support calls when the watch is paired with a compatible smartphone. Garmin’s Singapore product page also lists iPhone and Android compatibility, paired-phone calling, and voice assistant functions. These connected features do not make the Venu X1 a cellular watch: the cited product information does not establish that it can make calls independently of a phone. Connected messaging can also depend on the phone and apps involved. Garmin’s Singapore product page describes its regional feature offering.

Battery life: the estimate depends on the mode
Garmin’s figures are maximum estimates under specified settings, not a guarantee of a particular owner’s routine. The company’s battery page gives these mode-specific figures: Garmin battery-life estimates.
| Use mode | Garmin estimate |
|---|---|
| Smartwatch mode | Up to 8 days |
| Smartwatch mode with always-on display | Up to 2 days |
| GPS-only activity, without music | Up to 16 hours |
| All-systems satellite activity, without music | Up to 14 hours |
| GPS-only or all-systems activity with music, under Garmin’s listed assumptions | Up to 7 hours |
Garmin’s owner’s manual notes that wrist-based heart rate, phone notifications, GPS, internal sensors, and connected sensors can affect actual endurance. In practical terms, the eight-day headline applies to smartwatch mode with its stated assumptions; using the always-on display changes the estimate substantially, and GPS workouts or music bring different limits.

TechRadar’s reviewer reported about a week with always-on display off, including multiple hour-long GPS workouts, and only a few days with it on. Android Central likewise treated the two-day always-on estimate as a notable weakness relative to some other Garmin watches. These are individual review experiences, not promises that every user will get the same results. TechRadar’s Venu X1 review and Android Central’s Venu X1 review discuss their observations.
What reviewers liked—and where they hesitated
Thinness, comfort, and a larger canvas
TechRadar and Android Central both singled out the Venu X1’s slim profile and comfort. The unusually large display gives maps and workout information more room than a small watch face, which is a meaningful advantage if you often consult navigation or stats during activity. Android Central also highlighted the flashlight, golf information, and training features.

Price and always-on endurance
The launch price is a major part of the decision. Garmin’s $799.99 figure is a US launch MSRP, not a statement of today’s price. TechRadar reported $799.99, £679.99, and AU$1,499 in the regional context of its review; those reported prices are not verified live offers. An Ireland Garmin listing has shown a regional price and promotion, but that time-sensitive market listing should not be treated as a current price elsewhere. Check the price for your country, color, and seller before buying.
The always-on display is convenient, but Garmin’s own estimate falls to up to two days in that mode. If you expect a premium sports watch to last through several days of always-on use without charging, that trade-off may matter more than the thin design. TechRadar also found some interface navigation cumbersome, while Android Central characterized the launch price as difficult to justify for some first-time Garmin buyers.

Venu X1 or Forerunner 970?
Android Central described the Forerunner 970 as the safer choice for some Garmin buyers, while presenting the Venu X1 as a comfort- and screen-led option. The available review findings support a priority-based decision rather than a blanket winner:
| Priority | What the Venu X1 brings | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Thinness and wrist comfort | Its 8 mm case and reviewer-praised slim, comfortable fit | Whether that physical difference is worth the premium to you |
| Large display and maps | A 2-inch AMOLED display that reviewers found useful for maps and information | Whether you will use the larger screen often enough to justify the price |
| Battery with always-on display | Up to 2 days in Garmin’s always-on smartwatch estimate | Compare current estimates for the Forerunner 970 and other candidates before choosing; the cited reviews do not provide a directly comparable battery table |
| Demanding navigation | Mapping is among the X1’s advertised capabilities | Android Central suggests serious hikers may prefer a dual-frequency GPS watch; verify the configuration and current specifications of any alternative |
| Training and sports | Garmin advertises advanced training features and more than 100 sports apps | Match the features to the sports you actually do, rather than buying on feature count alone |
Android Central also reported testing the X1 against a Forerunner 970 and Garmin HRM 200 chest strap during a run and hike. In those specific tests, the reviewer reported close final distance and heart-rate results, while noting wrist heart rate may lag during rapid changes. That single review protocol is not a general accuracy guarantee.

Who should buy the Venu X1?
It is a stronger fit if
- You want a thin, comfortable Garmin and will make regular use of its large display.
- Maps, training tools, or the flashlight are useful in your everyday routine or activities.
- You are willing to pay a premium for that particular combination of design and features.
- You can accommodate more frequent charging if you prefer the always-on display or use GPS and music often.
Compare other watches first if
- Longer always-on endurance is a higher priority than a thin profile or large screen.
- You need dual-frequency GPS for demanding hiking or navigation; Android Central specifically suggests serious hikers may prefer such a watch.
- You are new to Garmin and are not sure you will use the X1’s premium features enough to justify its launch price.
- You are considering the Forerunner 970 or a less expensive Venu. Check current specifications and local prices; a review’s comparison is not a guarantee that either alternative is right for every buyer.
