The Garmin Venu X1 pairs an unusually slim 8 mm design with a 2-inch AMOLED display, Garmin fitness features and preloaded maps. Its key trade-off is battery life: Garmin rates it for up to 8 days in smartwatch mode, but TechRadar’s reviewer reported only a few days with the always-on display enabled. Whether it is worth buying depends on how much you value the large screen and slim fit over endurance and standalone LTE.

What makes the Venu X1 distinctive?
The Venu X1’s main appeal is its combination of a slim profile and a large display. Garmin’s launch announcement emphasized the 8 mm case and 2-inch AMOLED screen, along with a sapphire lens, titanium caseback, speaker and microphone, and an LED flashlight. These are manufacturer specifications and launch claims, rather than independent proof of performance.
The large screen gives maps, workout information and notifications more room than a small watch face. TechRadar’s reviewer found the display and maps compelling, while also noting occasional interface lag and cumbersome navigation. The two-button, touchscreen-led design may appeal to smartwatch users, but shoppers who prefer extensive physical controls should consider whether it suits how they use a watch during exercise.
The watch includes a 24 mm quick-release nylon band. Garmin initially listed black and moss options; availability may vary by market and date. A replacement band is an optional personalization choice, not a necessary upgrade. Confirm that any band listing specifies both 24 mm width and compatible standard quick-release attachment.
#1 Best Overall
- Easy-to-use running watch monitors heart rate (this is not a medical device) at the wrist and uses GPS to track how far, how fast and where you’ve run.Special Feature:Bluetooth.
- Battery life: up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode; up to 20 hours in GPS mode
- Plan your race day strategy with the PacePro feature (not compatible with on-device courses), which offers GPS-based pace guidance for a selected course or distance

- Track all the ways you move with built-in activity profiles for running, cycling, track run, virtual run, pool swim, Pilates, HIIT, breathwork and more
Battery life: the main compromise
Garmin’s Venu X1 owner’s manual gives the following maximum battery estimates. Garmin says actual life depends on enabled features, including wrist-based heart rate, phone notifications, GPS, internal sensors and connected sensors.
| Mode | Garmin estimate |
|---|---|
| Smartwatch mode | Up to 8 days |
| Battery saver watch mode | Up to 11 days |
| GPS-only mode | Up to 16 hours |
| All satellite systems | Up to 14 hours |
| All satellite systems with music | Up to 7 hours |
These are maximum estimates, not promises for every setup. In its August 2025 review, TechRadar’s reviewer reported around a week during testing with multiple GPS workouts when using raise-to-wake, and only a few days with the always-on display enabled. That reviewer’s experience highlights why display settings matter when judging the Venu X1’s endurance.
If you want a watch that can go longer between charges, compare the Venu X1’s expected life under your settings with alternatives before buying. If the bright, always-visible screen is the feature you value most, decide whether charging more often is an acceptable trade-off.
Fitness, navigation and current software
Garmin’s launch materials describe preloaded maps, workout statistics, health insights, smart notifications, phone-paired calls and access to a phone voice assistant. The Venu X1 is aimed at people who want Garmin’s fitness and navigation experience in a slimmer, more smartwatch-like design. The available sources do not establish that every feature or behavior remains unchanged after later software updates.

For navigation and sport, consider whether the watch’s maps and workout features match your needs and how much battery you can spare during long sessions. TechRadar’s reviewer praised the maps and display but also reported occasional lag and cumbersome interface navigation, so the experience may not suit everyone.
Calls, water rating and everyday care
The built-in speaker and microphone support calls when the Venu X1 is paired with a compatible smartphone. It does not have LTE, so it is not a standalone cellular watch. TechRadar specifically noted the lack of LTE when comparing it with the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Garmin’s manual lists a 5 ATM water rating and describes it as pressure equivalent to 50 m. That rating should not be read as a guarantee for every kind of water activity. The manual also recommends hand-washing the nylon strap with mild detergent and air-drying it, and advises drying the watch before charging if its electrical contacts are wet or sweaty.

Price and alternatives
TechRadar’s 2025 review listed launch-era prices of $799.99, £679.99 and AU$1,499. These are historical review-time figures, not a statement of today’s price. Check current local pricing and availability before deciding; the dossier does not establish a current price.
Compare the Venu X1 with alternatives based on your phone, need for LTE, preferred battery life, comfort, display, navigation and training features, water use and local price. TechRadar’s reviewer considered it appealing for Android users seeking Garmin features in a slim format, while viewing its high price and always-on battery cost as drawbacks. That is one reviewer’s assessment, not a universal recommendation.
| Consider | Why it may fit | Trade-off to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Garmin Venu X1 | Slim design, large AMOLED screen, Garmin fitness and navigation features | Always-on use shortens battery life; no LTE; high launch-era price |
| Apple Watch Ultra 2 | Worth comparing if iPhone integration or standalone cellular service matters | Choose based on your phone ecosystem, battery priorities and current local price |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra | Worth comparing if you want a premium smartwatch alternative | Weigh its fit with your phone and your priorities for battery, navigation and fitness features |
Is the Garmin Venu X1 worth buying?
The Venu X1 is worth considering if you want a large, bright display and slim Garmin design, and are willing to accept more frequent charging when the screen is always on. Its lack of LTE is a clear limitation if you expect a watch to make calls independently of a phone, while the historical launch price makes checking current alternatives especially important.
Before buying, follow these steps:
- Check the current price and availability in your region rather than relying on 2025 launch-era prices.
- Decide whether you will use the always-on display and compare the resulting battery trade-off with your charging habits.
- Confirm that paired-phone calls, rather than standalone LTE, meet your needs.
- Compare the Venu X1’s fitness and navigation features with the alternatives you are considering.
- If replacing the band, verify the listing specifies a compatible 24 mm quick-release attachment.
