Fall detection on Venu 4
Garmin specifically identifies fall detection as newly available on Venu 4, not across every device in this release. After detecting a hard fall, the watch can message preset assistance contacts with the user’s live location. This safety feature requires a paired smartphone and is subject to Garmin’s safety and assistance requirements.
Edge Enduro ride profile
On compatible Edge cycling computers, the Edge Enduro profile can automatically detect and switch between climbing and descent modes.

Why hasn’t my Garmin watch received the update yet?
Garmin says the rollout has started, not that it is complete worldwide. A missing update prompt immediately after the announcement does not by itself mean the watch is incompatible; availability is staged, and Garmin does not provide a single global completion date in the announcement.
For fēnix 8, Garmin Customer Support says a software release delivered through Garmin Connect can take up to a week to download before the watch prompts for installation. That is rollout guidance for the Connect route, not a guarantee that every device will receive the update within that time. Garmin’s fēnix 8 update guidance describes the available sync methods.

How do I update my Garmin watch?
Use a method supported by your device. Garmin identifies Garmin Connect and Garmin Express; Wi-Fi sync is another option on supported watches. The cited guidance does not establish that any one method gets a staged update sooner.
- Garmin Connect: Sync the watch with the Garmin Connect app on its paired phone, then check the watch’s software or update screen for an installation prompt.
- Garmin Express: Connect the watch to a computer and use Garmin Express to check for and install available updates.
- Wi-Fi: If the watch supports Wi-Fi updates, connect it to Wi-Fi and check its software or update screen.
Garmin says to enable automatic updates and sync with Garmin Connect, or use Garmin Express. The update is free.

Is this the same as Garmin Software Version 26.09?
Not according to the available release information. Garmin forum posts about Software Version 26.09 refer to separate updates for epix (Gen 2)/epix Pro and fēnix 7/Tactix 7 models, with their own rollout details and changes. The evidence does not establish that those posts describe the September 22 feature-update package, so the version number and model-specific forum releases should not be conflated with this announcement.
