No first-person wear or performance assessment is included here.
What makes the Black Onyx version distinctive?
The defining contrast is the black onyx dial against a yellow-gold 3N case. The case has a glass-blasted finish, while its 223 gold spikes are polished. The launch specifications also describe yellow-gold markers and hands, and a crown set with a gold and onyx cabochon. These are specifications and descriptions from launch materials, not an independent assessment of the finish.
The Oursin range’s sculptural, spiny form is the source of its name: “oursin” is French for sea urchin. Hodinkee traces Gérald Genta’s original design to a sketch made after a family vacation in Corsica and says the design became a watch in 1994. The Gentissima collection was revived in 2024. The case measurements differ because launch coverage gives decimal dimensions and the retailer rounds them; they should not be silently combined. Strap descriptions also vary by source, so “exotic leather” and “alligator” should not be treated as interchangeable confirmations of the precise material.

How much does the Black Onyx Oursin cost?
The stated launch price was CHF 29,000 excluding taxes, with availability announced for October 2025. Monochrome reported the same launch price and timing. Monochrome’s launch coverage and specifications
At the time reflected by its listing, US retailer Watches of Switzerland showed the reference at $39,700 and directed customers to inquire in store. How does it differ from the Burgundy Oursin?
The clearest published distinction is the dial-and-metal pairing: this reference uses black onyx with yellow gold, while the Burgundy version is described with a guilloché dial and rose gold. The Black Onyx release specifies its own black exotic-leather strap. These differences describe the versions’ published treatments; they do not establish a difference in comfort or how either wears.
The collection’s earlier Oursin models were discussed by The 1916 Company. Evelyne Genta described the new versions in that earlier collection context as evolutions of Gérald Genta’s design; her comments predate the 2025 Black Onyx release and are not a direct statement about reference EECE02A1.
