The Grand Seiko SBGW314 is a 50-piece, 2024 limited edition that draws on the design of the brand’s first watch, released in 1960. It is a modern interpretation, not a reproduction of the original: the SBGW314 pairs an 18k rose-gold case with a navy dial and uses hand-wound Caliber 9S64, rather than the original Caliber 3180. Grand Seiko’s US boutique lists it at $26,500 and marks it “No Longer Available”; that listing does not establish availability elsewhere.
What the SBGW314 re-creates—and what it does not
Grand Seiko dates its first watch to 1960. Its history page identifies the original movement as Caliber 3180 and says it was the first watch in Japan to meet the standard of excellence of the Bureaux Officiels de Contrôle de la Marche des Montres. The brand reports accuracy of +12 to -3 seconds per day and a 45-hour power reserve for that movement. Grand Seiko’s history of the brand does not provide enough detail to establish the original watch’s case material or dimensions.

The SBGW314 takes its inspiration from that first model, but its materials and mechanics are contemporary. It has an 18k rose-gold case and modern Caliber 9S64; it is not fitted with Caliber 3180 or made from the original watch’s components.

How it differs from the 1960 original
The available official history supports a clear movement comparison, but not a complete case-to-case comparison. It gives the original’s Caliber 3180 accuracy and reserve, while the SBGW314’s product listing supplies the modern watch’s full dimensions and construction. The original’s case material and measurements are not established by those sources.

Release and availability
Grand Seiko presented the SBGW314 among its Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024 products. The event page places the watch in that 2024 presentation. The release-era GS9 Club page said it would be available from June 2024 exclusively at Grand Seiko boutiques, limited to 50 pieces, for USD $26,500. GS9 Club’s release announcement reflects that release-era plan.
As of October 7, 2026, the US boutique listing shows USD $26,500 and the wording “No Longer Available.” This is the status of that specific US listing, not confirmation that every Grand Seiko boutique, authorized dealer, or secondary-market seller has no stock. The displayed price likewise should not be treated as a current offer from another seller.

Who the SBGW314 is for
The watch is most directly suited to a buyer who wants a manually wound Grand Seiko with a precious-metal case and a limited-edition link to the brand’s founding year. Its 38 mm diameter and 45.7 mm length provide useful sizing figures, while the 19 mm lug width is a starting point—not a guarantee that every aftermarket strap will fit. Case-end shape and the strap’s attachment must also suit the watch.
For anyone seeking the exact SBGW314 today, check the reference and seller carefully: the US boutique marks its listing unavailable, and that page alone cannot verify stock or authenticity elsewhere.
