Halliday’s original AI glasses used a small DigiWindow module inside the frame to direct an image toward the wearer’s eye, rather than forming a display through a waveguide lens. The result was a small, glanceable viewing area—not a broad augmented-reality overlay. “Lens-free” describes the display optics, not the absence of ordinary or prescription lenses.
Announced at CES 2025, the glasses were presented with notifications, translation, notes, navigation, audio, and AI assistance. Those were launch-era features and plans, not proof of current availability or independently verified performance. Halliday G2 is a separate, later product with binocular waveguides.
What Halliday unveiled at CES 2025
Halliday introduced its first-generation glasses at CES 2025, including the CES Unveiled event. The product was positioned between ordinary audio glasses and a full mixed-reality headset: it looked broadly like conventional eyewear, but could place small pieces of digital information in the wearer’s view.
TechCrunch reported a full price of $489, a planned March 2025 shipping start, and a $369 Kickstarter pledge offer. These are historical launch terms, not evidence of current availability or price for the original model.

Launch coverage described:
- A small DigiWindow module inside the frame above the right eye
- Microphones and speakers for voice and audio functions
- Smartphone connectivity
- Notifications, translation, notes or cheat-sheet content, and navigation
- Voice and temple controls; a control ring was also described, but the TechCrunch reporter did not test it
The display was intended for short glances while the wearer continued looking forward, rather than continuous viewing of a large virtual screen.
How the lens-free DigiWindow display works
Halliday’s DigiWindow places the display hardware in the frame instead of distributing display optics through a waveguide lens. TechCrunch described a tiny round module above the right eye that directs light toward the eye. TechCrunch reported the resulting view as equivalent to a 3.5-inch circular display; that is a reported comparison, not an independent optical measurement. Gyges Labs, which developed DigiWindow, describes its volume as less than 0.1 cc—a company figure, not an independent measurement.
In practical terms, the system is closer to a tiny near-eye display than to transparent screens across the lenses. A notification or translated line appears in a defined viewing region, which the wearer can glance at and then look away from.
“Lens-free” does not mean “without lenses”
Halliday’s use of lens-free refers to the digital display architecture: the image does not depend on a waveguide/display lens to form it. The glasses can still use ordinary or prescription lenses. TechCrunch reported that prescription lenses could be fitted to the original glasses.

Halliday G2 is a different generation. Its display is integrated into a binocular waveguide structure, so its optical design should not be confused with the original DigiWindow approach.
Potential advantages and trade-offs
Gyges Labs describes DigiWindow as a private near-eye display. Halliday’s approach could avoid some of the optical complexity of a conventional waveguide design, but the available research contains no independent laboratory measurement of DigiWindow performance. Claims about privacy, comfort, readability, or eye strain should be attributed to the company rather than presented as established results.

The small viewing area is also a trade-off: it suits short messages and prompts better than a broad image spanning the wearer’s view. In TechCrunch’s CES hands-on report, the module had slide and tilt adjustment, but the reporter could not align it comfortably with their high nose bridge and wore the glasses lower. This is one person’s fit observation, not evidence of a universal defect.
What the Halliday AI glasses were designed to do
The original product was pitched as an assistant that could provide information without requiring the wearer to take out a phone. Halliday’s launch claims and CES demonstrations included several intended uses, but the available research does not establish their current availability or performance.
Notifications, notes, and navigation
Launch coverage described notifications, notes or cheat-sheet content, and navigation as planned functions. The small display was intended for brief information rather than a full app interface.
Live translation
TechCrunch reported a short bilingual CES demonstration in which English subtitles appeared while Halliday founder Carter Hou spoke Chinese. TechCrunch also reported that Halliday announced support for 40 languages; this was a launch-era product claim, not an independent evaluation of translation quality. The reviewed sources do not establish accuracy across languages, response time, or performance in noisy environments.
AI answers and proactive assistance
Halliday described the glasses as proactive AI eyewear, but the proactive AI feature was not ready for TechCrunch to test at CES 2025. KDDI America also reported that Proactive AI remained under development at that time. Treat it as a launch-era plan, not a proven or currently available capability.
Voice, temple controls, and the ring
Launch reporting described voice interaction and temple controls. It also mentioned a control ring, which the TechCrunch reporter did not test. The reviewed sources do not establish the ring’s current availability or compatibility.

Privacy: a microphone-based wearable, not a camera system
The original Halliday glasses used microphones and speakers for AI and audio functions. The reviewed launch sources describe microphones, but do not establish detailed current listening behavior or data-retention practices. Do not infer privacy safeguards from the claim that the display is visible only to the wearer.
Keep these issues separate:
- Display privacy: Gyges Labs describes DigiWindow as private to the wearer; this is the developer’s promotional description.
- Audio privacy: microphones can raise questions about nearby conversation when listening features are active. Check the applicable software settings and local consent rules.
A discreet display does not make a microphone-equipped wearable socially invisible. Users should consider consent and local rules when activating listening features.
Original Halliday glasses versus Halliday G2
Halliday G2 is a distinct later product, not the original DigiWindow glasses with a new name. - Whether your pupillary distance and lens measurements can be accommodated.
- Whether prescription customization is available in your country.
- How replacement lenses, repairs, returns, and warranty service work.
- Whether the frame and display position are comfortable for your intended use.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What Halliday’s approach gets right—and what remains unproven
The promising idea
The original glasses challenged the assumption that smart glasses need a large, lens-integrated display. A small frame-mounted module could deliver short messages while leaving the main forward view unobstructed. That may appeal to people seeking occasional prompts rather than a persistent overlay.
The combination of audio and a small visual display was suited to notifications, translation prompts, and brief information. Gyges Labs’ description of a private near-eye display explains the intended design, but remains the developer’s promotional claim.
The unanswered questions
The reviewed sources do not provide independent measurements of DigiWindow performance. Practical questions include:
- How easy the display is to read outdoors
- How consistently different wearers can align the module
- How quickly information appears after a request
- How accurately translation works in different settings
- How long the original glasses last on a charge
- How comfortable the viewing area is over extended use
- How the frame, prescription lenses, and electronics hold up over time
CES demonstrations and manufacturer claims should not be treated as independent tests of everyday reliability.
Bottom line for buyers and technology watchers
Halliday’s CES 2025 glasses were notable for using a frame-mounted DigiWindow to direct a small image toward the eye rather than forming a broad display through the lens. They were designed more for glances at information than for full-scene AR.
