The Hamilton PSR 74 is a modern digital quartz watch inspired by the 1974 Pulsar Cushion—not an exact reproduction. It revives the vintage model’s cushion-case silhouette and bangle-style bracelet in a contemporary stainless-steel watch with a hybrid LCD/OLED display, sapphire crystal and 10-bar water resistance.
What is the Hamilton PSR 74?
The American Classic PSR 74, reference H52304130, is a digital quartz watch in Hamilton’s current collection. Hamilton identifies the 1974 Pulsar Cushion as its design inspiration and highlights the cushion-shaped profile and bangle-style bracelet. The modern watch has its own reference and contemporary construction; the available official materials do not establish that it duplicates the vintage model’s dimensions or specifications.
The PSR 74 belongs to a larger Pulsar story. Swatch Group dates the public unveiling of the original Hamilton Pulsar to May 6, 1970, at New York’s Four Seasons restaurant. Hamilton announced the watch in 1970, and the first production model, the P1, reached the market in 1972.
From the original Pulsar to the Cushion design
Swatch Group describes the P1 as an 18-carat yellow-gold cushion-case watch, priced at $2,100, with 400 produced. Those details apply to the P1 specifically, not to every early Pulsar. In Swatch Group’s account, the stainless-steel P2 followed in 1973 with a more rounded case and an improved chip module.

Hamilton’s 2025 announcement presents the PSR 74 as a new chapter for the Pulsar design. Its official video identifies the 1974 Cushion as the inspiration and calls out a 31 mm cushion-case silhouette. That figure describes the vintage design in the video, not the modern H52304130. Hamilton’s current product listing does not give the PSR 74’s case dimensions.

How the PSR 74 display and controls work
The PSR 74 manual describes a time display that can be set to 12-hour or 24-hour format. The watch’s temporary displays are accessed with the two pushers and return to the standard screen after a short timeout.
- Illuminate the time: Press the left-hand pusher. Press it again to show seconds.
- Show the date: Press the right-hand pusher. The manual lists day/month and month/day formats.
- Choose time format: Use the manual’s setting instructions to select 12- or 24-hour display.
Hamilton lists the PSR 74 as using a hybrid LCD/OLED display. In a 2020 explanation of the earlier PSR, Swatch Group described the design logic as reflective LCD for daylight visibility and red OLED numerals when the button is pressed. That account explains the earlier PSR display concept; it is not a measured claim about the PSR 74’s visibility, battery life or power consumption.

What the official specifications do—and do not—tell you
The official product listing establishes the modern reference’s movement, display type, materials, lug width and water-resistance rating. It does not provide a complete case-dimension specification, nor does the cited official material establish a full technical specification for the 1974 watch. The historical design connection is clear, but a precise side-by-side comparison of dimensions or construction is not supported by the available model details.
Hamilton’s listing rates the PSR 74 at 10 bar (100 m). That is the manufacturer’s stated water-resistance rating; it should not be treated as evidence of independent testing or of performance in a particular activity.
