This review focuses on the red-display stainless-steel reference H52304130; the specifications and button behavior below come from Hamilton, while fit, legibility and finish are questions that require direct on-wrist viewing.
What the Hamilton PSR 74 is
The PSR 74 is a digital quartz watch with a distinctive cushion case. Hamilton frames its design as inspired by the original Cushion Pulsar model, introduced in 1974. That heritage sits within the broader Pulsar story: Hamilton says its Pulsar P1 was announced in 1970 and released in 1972, and that it changed how the world tells time. Hamilton’s press release is the source for that historical claim.
The red-display stainless-steel version is reference H52304130. Hamilton’s official video describes the silhouette as a 31 mm cushion case and the bracelet as tapered and bangle-style; those are the brand’s design descriptions, not independent measurements or assessments. Hamilton’s promotional video shows the design.
Display and controls
Hybrid LCD and OLED display
Hamilton describes the display as a combination of reflective LCD and emissive OLED. The display is not continuously illuminated: the wearer requests illumination with a pusher. In ordinary light, the reflective display is the relevant viewing mode; in dim conditions, the OLED illumination can be activated. Actual clarity, contrast and ease of reading depend on the viewing conditions and should be judged from the watch itself rather than inferred from the specification.

What each pusher does
Hamilton’s manual describes the following operation for the PSR 74:
- Left pusher: A brief press illuminates the hour. Press it again while the display is illuminated to show seconds. The display returns to standard mode after four seconds without another action, or after ten seconds while seconds are displayed.
- Right pusher: A brief press shows and illuminates the date. It returns to standard mode after four seconds without another action. Hamilton says the date can be set to month/day or day/month.
The second pusher is the date control; Hamilton describes it as a newly added date function with red numerals. The PSR 74 manual, published October 23, 2024, explains the display modes and operation. The watch can show time in either 24-hour or AM/PM format.

The compact 26 × 31 mm case dimensions do not by themselves determine how the watch will fit. The listed 40 mm lug-to-lug measurement and the bracelet’s shape also affect its wrist presence, so use on-wrist footage or try it on to judge fit. The 10-bar rating is Hamilton’s specification; it does not, on its own, establish suitability for a particular activity.

Red or another PSR 74 finish?
Hamilton lists more than one PSR 74 finish. The red-display stainless-steel model discussed here is H52304130; the gold-PVD version is H52314130. Choose by the exact reference and the combination of display color, case finish and bracelet configuration shown by the retailer. Do not assume that a price or specification for one variant applies to another.

Battery warning and service
Hamilton’s manual says a continuously flashing time display means the battery should be replaced soon. It also describes an end-of-life indication that alternates “bat” with the time. Hamilton directs owners to an approved service centre or authorized Hamilton retailer for battery changes. The manual passages cited here do not identify a battery type or replacement part number, so they do not support a specific DIY battery recommendation.
