Fratello’s Robert-Jan Broer tried both sizes in Basel and preferred the 43 mm on his own wrist; that is a personal fit judgment, not a universal sizing rule. The reviewed watch was a full-steel model on Breitling’s pilot bracelet, with a reverse-panda dial and red chronograph seconds hand.
What distinguishes the 2018 Navitimer 1 B01 Chronograph?
In its 2018 refresh, Breitling removed dial elements including the wings logo and founding year while retaining the Navitimer’s circular aviation slide rule and the B01-powered three-register chronograph layout. The change made for a cleaner dial without abandoning the design’s most recognizable feature. The 2018 Fratello account covers a specific full-steel watch on a pilot bracelet; the collection also offered steel, gold and two-tone versions, with leather or metal bracelets. Those options mean the pictured dial and bracelet should not be treated as universal to every 2018 configuration. Fratello’s 2018 hands-on account reported a retail price of €8,190 for the particular full-steel watch it covered.
The dial and wrist impression
Broer liked the reviewed watch’s reverse-panda contrast: black registers against a white or silver dial, set off by a red chronograph seconds hand. His reservation was the branded B and anchor decoration at the short end of that hand. That detail is specific to the reviewed dial, not a statement about every 2018 Navitimer 1 B01.
Trying the 43 mm and 46 mm side by side, he found the smaller watch sat better on his wrist and felt less attention-grabbing. That is useful as a firsthand impression, but it cannot settle which size will suit another wearer: wrist shape, preferred visual presence and taste matter, and the available account does not supply a matched set of lug-to-lug or weight measurements for both sizes.

How does the 43 mm wear, and how does it compare with the 46 mm?
The 43 mm offers a less imposing wrist presence than the 46 mm in Broer’s direct comparison, while retaining the broad dial and circular slide-rule bezel that define the Navitimer. His preference was for the 43 mm, but the account does not establish a universal fit advantage or provide exact comparative dimensions beyond the nominal case diameters. Try both sizes if possible, paying attention to how the bezel and lugs sit on your wrist as well as the diameter alone.
Be careful when comparing generations: “Navitimer B01 Chronograph 43” is also used for later watches whose dial layout, date position, case details, strap or bracelet, and reference can differ from the 2018 Navitimer 1. For example, WatchTime’s December 2022 review of a silver-dial B01 Chronograph 43 describes the date integrated into the 12-hour counter at six o’clock. That is a later-generation example, not a specification to apply to the 2018 watch. WatchTime’s 2022 review also describes a sapphire display back and B01 movement.

What movement is in the Navitimer B01 43?
The 2018 watch uses Breitling’s Manufacture Caliber 01, an automatic movement that drives the three-register chronograph. For a current reference comparison, Breitling’s US product page for stainless-steel reference AB0121211B1X1 lists the self-winding Manufacture Caliber 01 with approximately 70 hours of power reserve, a 1/4-second chronograph indication, 30-minute and 12-hour counters, a frequency of 28,800 v.p.h., and 47 jewels. These are specifications for that current reference; they should not be silently treated as a complete specification sheet for every 2018 configuration. Breitling’s US listing for AB0121211B1X1
WatchTime reported timing measurements for its own later-generation test watch, including approximately +1.5 seconds per day on wrist. That result belongs to WatchTime’s sample and test conditions; it is not a guaranteed accuracy specification for the 2018 model or every B01 watch.

Is the Navitimer B01 43 water resistant?
Breitling lists 3 bars (30 m / 99 ft) water resistance for current US reference AB0121211B1X1. This is a modest rating, not a basis for assuming the watch is suitable for swimming. The cited specification is for that current reference, and case details or ratings can vary by reference. Check the documentation for the exact watch you are considering before exposing it to water.

Breitling’s US page for AB0121211B1X1 lists a 43 mm stainless-steel case, 14.22 mm thickness, 22 mm lug width, bidirectional slide-rule bezel, screwed sapphire caseback and cambered sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides. It is shown with a black calfskin strap. These details describe a current configuration, not necessarily the 2018 steel bracelet watch reviewed by Fratello.

As accessed in October 2026, the US listing displayed USD 9,900 before sales tax. That is a time- and market-specific listed price for AB0121211B1X1, not a current universal price or the price of every 2018 Navitimer. Fratello’s €8,190 figure was the historical 2018 retail price for its specific full-steel configuration. The two figures come from different years, markets and configurations and are not directly comparable.
The same current US page lists a five-year international warranty and says it may be extended by up to three years through online registration. Warranty eligibility and terms can change; confirm them with Breitling for the exact purchase and region.
