It can help you make better-informed decisions and spot patterns in your play, but it cannot fix your swing or guarantee lower scores. The 2020 TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition review describes a watch and app for course information, round logging and pre-round breathing exercises. Those tools are useful only if you use them consistently and act on what they show. The original Golf Edition is now discontinued, so it is best understood as a historical hands-on review—not a straightforward new-buy recommendation in 2026.
What the 2020 hands-on review covered
Published on July 3, 2020, the original review looked at the then-new third-generation TAG Heuer Connected Golf Edition. It described a 45mm titanium case, a 1.39-inch always-on OLED display, a golf-ball-dimple pattern on the strap, a titanium folding clasp, and a touchscreen, crown and two pusher-style buttons. The package included golf balls, tees and a divot tool. The reviewer reported that the screen could be used while wearing a golf glove. Read the original hands-on review.
Those details identify the watch discussed in that article, but not an exact E3 or E4 reference. TAG Heuer’s archive lists the E3 Golf Edition as reference SBG8A82.EB0206 and the E4 Golf Edition as SBR8A81.EB0251; the 2020 review does not establish that its subject was either one.
How a golf watch could help you play better
The improvement case is indirect: the watch supplies information that may change your decisions, your practice or both. It does not make a more technically sound swing. The 2020 review describes the Golf app as a place to record each hole’s score, clubs used, shot lengths, putts, approach-miss direction and weather. It does not establish how much of that information is captured automatically versus entered by the golfer, so do not assume that logging is effortless or fully automatic.

Use course information to choose a target
Yardages and hole layouts can help you weigh a safer target against a risky shot, decide whether to lay up, or choose a club for the distance you want to leave. TAG Heuer says its E4 Golf Edition’s dedicated Golf app covers more than 40,000 courses. That is a course-count claim, not proof that every map is complete, up to date or equally supported. The original hands-on review does not report an independent yardage-accuracy test. See TAG Heuer’s E4 Golf Edition specifications.
GPS readings are aids, not a guarantee of exact pin distance. Satellite reception, trees, buildings, terrain and changes to the course can affect what you see; blind shots and temporary course changes may require local knowledge. Check that your course is available and its map is usable before relying on it, and keep a backup yardage method for situations where precision matters.

Turn round records into a practice plan
A record of clubs, shot lengths, missed approaches and putts can help distinguish a recurring problem from a bad day. If the data suggests repeated misses in one direction, frequent three-putts or trouble with a particular part of the course, you have a more specific question to take to practice or a coach. Weather notes may also help you compare rounds played in different conditions.
But a record is not an explanation. The watch cannot tell you by itself whether a miss came from swing mechanics, poor contact, setup, green reading or a strategic choice. And if manual logging interrupts play, the inconvenience can lead to missing or inconsistent data. A useful habit is to record only what you will actually review, then use that record to choose one or two practice priorities.

Make the information useful after the round
- Before you play: Check that your course is available and that the watch has acquired its position before you rely on its yardages.
- During the round: Use the displayed information as one input to club and target decisions. Record the scoring and shot details you intend to analyze without slowing play.
- After the round: Review the information the app has retained, look for a repeatable pattern, and choose a specific practice question. Share it with a coach if you need help diagnosing the cause.
This is a practical way to use the features described in the 2020 review, not a claim that every archived watch or software version will behave identically today. Interfaces, phone compatibility and app services can change.
Can its breathing tools help with the mental game?
The original review also makes a mental-performance case for TAG Heuer’s Breathe app and heart-rate information, particularly as part of preparation before an important round. It cites golf coach and sports psychologist Jamie Glazier and describes an inverted-U relationship between arousal and performance: too little or too much may be unhelpful, while a middle ground may support focus. That is a general idea, not proof that this watch improves competitive results.
Rank #4
- Movement: Quartz
- Case Size: 41 mm
- Band Width: 20 mm
- Water Resistance: 200 Meters
- Crystal: Scratch Resistant Sapphire
A breathing prompt may help you pause and establish a repeatable pre-round routine. The likely value is in deliberately taking that pause; a heart-rate reading is not a complete measure of anxiety, readiness or concentration, and the original review supplies no controlled performance test of the Breathe app. It is a routine aid, not a mental-state diagnosis.
What is practical—and what may get in the way?
The 2020 reviewer highlighted the large display, multiple controls and reported glove usability. The titanium case keeps the listed material light, but a 45mm watch can still feel large, and the E3 and E4 specifications list a thickness of 15.27mm. Try the fit if you have a smaller wrist or are sensitive to a watch moving during your swing. A premium watch may also feel like something you need to protect from scratches, impact or loss.

For the E4, TAG Heuer lists 50m water resistance, a 440mAh battery, and a full-day battery claim that includes multiple hours of sport use. The company says a full charge takes about 1 hour 30 minutes and cautions that battery life varies with settings, apps, notifications, brightness, Wi-Fi use and battery age. That is not a guaranteed number of holes. Start a round with a full charge, especially if you plan to use GPS, a bright display and notifications, or play more than once in a day. An older used watch may have less battery capacity than when new.
Glove use, sunlight glare, wet or sweaty fingers, rain, swing comfort and real-world battery endurance are practical questions to check on the particular watch you are considering; the available hands-on account does not test all of them. Competition rules and club policies also vary: check the event’s local rules for GPS or rangefinder use, any restricted features, device policies and notification expectations. Keep pace of play in mind and silence unrelated alerts.

“Connected Golf Edition” refers to more than one generation. TAG Heuer marks both the E3 and E4 Golf Edition as discontinued on its US pages. Their displayed US prices—$1,300 for the E3 and $1,650 for the E4—are former listed prices, not current offers or evidence of remaining stock. The 2020 review’s AUD$3,700 price was historical Australian pricing at publication, not a 2026 street price. These figures refer to different markets and generations and should not be compared as though they were current equivalent offers.

45mm titanium case with black DLC coating, 14.80mm thick, 50m water resistance, 1.39-inch OLED display, TAG Heuer OS, Snapdragon Wear 5100+, and 419mAh battery. TAG Heuer claims 17 hours in sport mode and three days in low-power mode; compatibility is listed as iOS 18+ and Android 13+. The E5 changes the golf proposition: TAG Heuer lists automatic shot tracking and Automatic Strokes Gained, features that should not be assumed for the 2020-generation watch. The company’s published E4 phone-compatibility ranges are version-specific, not a guarantee of support for every phone in 2026. With any discontinued unit, check app operation, compatibility, battery condition, charger, strap condition, warranty and return rights with the seller before paying.

- A data-minded golfer: The logging and course-information approach may suit you if you will review rounds and turn patterns into focused practice.
- A TAG Heuer enthusiast: The luxury design, materials and brand may be part of the value for you, alongside golf functions and smartwatch use.
- A value-first golf-watch buyer: The luxury premium is difficult to justify if yardages, scoring and golf analytics are all you want. Compare current alternatives on battery life, weight, controls, course coverage, shot tracking, app support and applicable competition rules before choosing; this review does not establish that a particular alternative is better.
- A 2026 buyer of an older Golf Edition: Treat it as discontinued hardware. Buy only after confirming the exact reference, current app and phone compatibility, battery condition and seller protections.
The original review’s central claim is plausible but narrower than “this watch lowers scores.” It can provide information for course management and learning; whether that information improves your golf depends on the choices and practice that follow.
