The 2026 Roger Dubuis Excalibur Knights of the Round Table The Metamorph Merlin, reference DBEX1118, puts twelve hand-finished miniature knights around a forest-inspired dial. Fratello identifies it as the 13th reported Knights of the Round Table edition and the concluding watch in the Merlin trilogy, following The Omniscient Merlin (2024) and The Enchanter Merlin (2025). It is limited to 28 pieces, with a price available on request.
A dial built as a transformation scene
The dial is arranged as a miniature forest rather than a conventional flat surface. Fratello’s 2026 hands-on report describes 57 green hexagonal blocks representing Broceliande, the legendary forest associated with Merlin. Their varied surfaces combine green CVD-coated, shot-blasted glass; transparent glass; polished components; pink gold; and green CVD-coated Crystalium floor inlays.
Twelve knights, each approximately 6 mm tall, stand among the blocks. Their individual sculpting and hand-finishing reportedly takes three days per figure. Sword-shaped hands indicate the hours and minutes, keeping the display focused on time despite the scene’s many details.

The specifications below are those reported for DBEX1118 by Fratello in 2026; they should not be assumed to apply to other Knights of the Round Table editions.

The report also describes hand-engraved micro-relief on the pink-gold case side: Merlin appears both as a white stag and as a sage holding a book. That engraving carries the transformation theme beyond the dial itself.

The series shares a visual premise—twelve handcrafted knights gathered around a round table—but individual editions can differ substantially in materials, dial construction, movement, and complications. Roger Dubuis’s official collection page explains the broader symbolism of the twelve quest characters and the table as an emblem of unity and equality. However, that page covers reference RDDBEX1025, a different monotourbillon model, not DBEX1118.

That distinction matters: RDDBEX1025 is described with a manual RD115 flying monotourbillon and a 72-hour reserve. Those specifications do not belong to The Metamorph Merlin, whose reported movement is the automatic RD821 with a 48-hour reserve. For a meaningful comparison between editions, check the specific reference’s case material and dimensions, dial materials and architecture, caliber and complications, water resistance, edition size, and narrative or case-side engraving.
