The RZE UTD-8000-BK is a black titanium digital tool watch with a sapphire crystal, a custom module and 200 m water-resistance rating. Its appeal is the combination of a lightweight-material brief and a familiar, rugged digital-watch design; its key buying checks are fit, configuration and the live price, which has changed since launch.
What the UTD-8000-BK is
The BK is the black version of RZE’s UTD-8000 digital line, not a name for every watch in the family. RZE’s current collection page shows other color variants, so check the model code when comparing listings: RZE UTD-8000 collection. The black treatment gives the watch a purposeful tool-watch look, while the digital layout and chunky case silhouette place it in the same broad design idiom as rugged G-Shock models. That is a stylistic comparison, not a claim that the watches share construction or functions.
RZE specifies a solid Grade 2 titanium case with its UltraHex coating, sapphire crystal, custom digital module and elasticized fabric strap. Titanium is the central proposition: a metal case without the heft many buyers associate with rugged steel watches. The coating is intended to improve surface durability, but neither the manufacturer’s description nor the review cited here amounts to a controlled scratch test.
Size, construction and fit
Published dimensions differ slightly by measurement point and source. Fratello’s March 2025 hands-on article gives a 42 mm diameter, 13.4 mm thickness and 50.2 mm lug-to-lug. RZE’s current product page specifies 42 mm across the case, 43 mm across the bezel, 13.4 mm thick and 49.5 mm lug-to-lug. The figures are not necessarily contradictory: the case and bezel are different reference points, and the lug-to-lug figures come from separate sources. At 13.4 mm thick, this is not a slim digital watch. The nearly 50 mm lug-to-lug span is also worth considering if your wrist is small or you want a watch that disappears under a close-fitting cuff. The elasticized fabric strap offers flexibility in how snugly the watch can be worn; try to assess the case span and thickness, not just the 42 mm case figure, when deciding whether its proportions suit you.
Display and functions
Fratello’s review lists a 1/100-second chronograph, alarms, hourly chime, backlight, 12/24-hour time display and an automatic calendar through 2099. These are useful everyday digital-watch functions rather than an attempt to turn the UTD-8000 into a connected device. The published feature list establishes that the watch has a backlight, but does not provide a controlled comparison of display legibility against competing watches. If you rely on a digital watch for quick reads in darkness or at unusual angles, view the display in person or seek a clear demonstration before buying.
Water resistance and battery
RZE lists water resistance of 200 m / 20 ATM and a CR2032 button-cell battery with a minimum three-year life. Those are manufacturer specifications, not results independently tested for this article. RZE also says the battery is readily available at retailers and that the watch can be opened with a Torx screwdriver; its product page describes the UTD-8000 as part of its “guaranteed for life” offerings. Strap and bracelet choices
The stated standard configuration uses an elasticized fabric strap. RZE also offers a compatible UltraHex titanium bracelet, and Fratello notes a separately sold Hexaflex rubber strap. These change the feel and look of the watch, as well as the purchase total. Confirm the exact contents of the listing or order before assuming the bracelet or rubber strap is included; availability and configuration can vary.
Price and availability
Prices have moved since launch, and the two sources describe different points in the product’s sales history. Fratello reported 2025 preorder prices of US$169 with the strap and US$329 with bracelet and strap; it gave full launch MSRP figures of US$219 and US$369 respectively after the preorder. RZE’s current product page accessed in 2026 lists US$279, but its page also shows out-of-stock/notify-me messaging and “PREORDER SHIPS EARLY SEPT 2026.” The current listing’s price and availability may refer to a different configuration or an evolving page, so verify the model, included strap or bracelet, stock status, shipping timing and checkout total before ordering.

How it compares with a G-Shock or another digital tool watch
The UTD-8000-BK makes most sense if you specifically want a titanium-cased digital watch and prefer RZE’s design and strap system. A G-Shock comparison should be made model by model rather than on brand reputation alone. Before choosing, compare:
- Material and weight: confirm the other watch’s case material and published weight; RZE’s case is Grade 2 titanium, but the supplied specifications do not establish a directly comparable weight.
- Fit: compare case and bezel width, thickness and lug-to-lug where available. RZE lists 42 mm at the case, 43 mm at the bezel and 13.4 mm thick.
- Display and functions: assess the actual display and whether its chronograph, alarms, chime, backlight and calendar cover your needs.
- Water resistance: compare the rating and the maker’s use guidance rather than assuming all rugged digital watches are equivalent.
- Strap options and service: account for the included strap, the price of any bracelet or alternate strap, battery type and published service or warranty terms.
- Current total price: compare the checkout price for the exact configuration, not a historical launch price or a bare-watch headline.
Fratello’s 2025 article frames titanium alternatives as substantially more expensive, but that is a review-era observation, not a current market survey. The prices above are therefore useful as history and listing context, not as proof that the UTD-8000-BK is currently the least expensive titanium option.

Is the RZE UTD-8000-BK worth it?
It is a compelling proposition for someone who wants a tough-looking digital watch with a titanium case, sapphire crystal and a clear set of conventional digital functions. The main trade-offs are its substantial proportions, uncertainty around the exact current configuration and availability, and the fact that the durability and battery-life figures are manufacturer claims. Its value depends on the live price and whether titanium is worth the premium over a less expensive digital watch for your use.
