It pairs that story with compact, A-11-inspired proportions and a Miyota 9039 movement. The aircraft-material provenance is reported by watch publications, but the sources cited here do not provide independent chain-of-custody documentation.
What makes the C-47 A-11 D-Day distinctive?
Praesidus introduced the watch for the 80th anniversary of D-Day in 2024. Fratello reported that the three dial variants use aluminum from two C-47 “Hamburger” doors associated with aircraft that served on D-Day. That is a compelling material story, but it should be understood as reported provenance rather than independently authenticated history.
The name connects the watch to the U.S. military’s A-11 watch specification. The National WWII Museum explains that A-11 was not originally an official model name: it was the specification label that became commonly used. The museum writes, “The A-11 specification actually called the watch an ‘Avigation’ watch.” The modern Praesidus is an homage, not an original military-issued artifact.
The historical specification called for features including hacking seconds, which lets the wearer stop the seconds hand to synchronize the watch. Other historical requirements included a minimum 15-jewel movement, 30–56-hour power reserve, ±30 seconds per day tolerance, environmental resistance, and a black dial with white numerals. Those historical criteria are distinct from the C-47’s modern materials and published specifications.

Fratello described three versions: Aluminum Patina, Aluminum Gray, and Olive Green. The 42-hour reserve and accuracy figure are published specifications, not results from a test conducted for this article. The 100m rating and screw-down crown are useful everyday features on paper, but they do not make the watch a substitute for a purpose-built dive watch.
Strap and fit considerations
The reported 20mm lug width gives owners a broad choice of compatible straps. Fratello described the watch on a brown leather strap and reported that the first 250 orders included an additional NATO strap. That was a launch offer, not a standing inclusion; confirm what comes with any specific watch being sold now.

Fratello and Monochrome reported 500 pieces per dial variant and a US$550 launch price in June 2024. These are launch-era facts, not a current price or stock check. What the historical connection does—and does not—mean
Fratello reported that 156,000 Allied troops had successfully stormed the French beaches by the end of D-Day and that 50,000 paratroopers dropped above the Normandy beaches in C-47/C-53 aircraft. That context helps explain why the C-47 is central to the watch’s story. It does not establish that a particular dial came from a specific aircraft with a documented operational history.
