In his account, the watch proved useful instead for readable timekeeping through heavy rain after his cycling computer’s screen failed. That is one participant’s experience, not a controlled durability test.
What is the TUDOR Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition?
It is a 43 mm chronograph made with a matte black carbon-composite case, titanium controls and a single-piece black fabric strap. The reference is M25827KN-0001; TUDOR’s 2024 specification sheet shortens it to 25827KN. The fixed 60-minute bezel, date display and chronograph give it the familiar functions of a sport watch, while the scale around the dial is recalibrated for cycling speeds.

TUDOR says the watch began with a brief from riders on the TUDOR Pro Cycling team: “Develop a watch that could not only stand up to the rigors of professional cycling, but that could also be a useful tool on the road.” That is the brand’s account of its design intent, rather than evidence that the watch replaces cycling instruments.

What does the cycling tachymeter do?
A tachymeter scale lets a wearer calculate speed over a known distance by timing how long it takes to cover that distance. TUDOR recalibrated the scale around the dial for cycling speeds, instead of simply applying a conventional higher-speed scale. Its purpose is to make an elapsed-time reading useful for estimating a rider’s speed on a measured course.
That is a mechanical, manual tool: the rider starts and stops the chronograph and needs a known distance or course marker for the calculation. It does not record GPS position, map a route, or continuously display speed as a cycling computer can. Whether it is useful depends on the ride and whether the rider wants to consult a watch rather than a dedicated device.

How did it perform at the 2024 Chasing Cancellara?
The July 2024 reports describe the Bern–Zermatt ride as more than 310 km with 5,000 m of ascent. Monochrome Watches writer Xavier Markl reported riding over 185 km in the relay category with Fratello writer Lex Stolk. These figures describe that event edition, not a claim about later routes or formats.
Stolk’s firsthand account describes heavy rain affecting his cycling computer, whose screen failed, while he could still read the watch and use it to keep track of time. He also says he did not use the specialized tachymeter during the ride. In this instance, the ordinary job of telling time mattered more than the cycling-specific scale.

The account is a useful snapshot of one long, wet ride, not proof of universal legibility or a formal test of water resistance. It also does not establish that the watch can replace a cycling computer or GPS device. Read the participant reports from Monochrome Watches and Fratello.
Is the Pelagos FXD Chrono Cycling Edition water resistant?
TUDOR rates it to 100 m (330 ft) and specifies a titanium screw-down crown. That is the manufacturer’s stated rating; it should not be confused with an independent test or with the single rider’s experience in rain. The rating is a product specification, not evidence that the watch is suitable for every water activity or that its resistance will remain unchanged indefinitely.

Price and availability: which figure applies?
Prices depend on market and date. TUDOR’s 2024 Swiss specification sheet listed CHF 4,950 including Swiss VAT. Its US product page displayed $6,375 when accessed on 2026-10-04. These are separate market-specific figures from different dates, not currency conversions; check TUDOR or an official retailer for the price applicable to your location and purchase date.
Who is this watch for?
The Cycling Edition makes most sense for someone who wants a substantial mechanical chronograph with cycling-specific design details, and who values a watch that remains useful for basic timekeeping without a screen or battery-powered cycling interface. The event account gives a concrete example of that fallback role, while also showing the tachymeter’s limits in actual use: the rider did not use it.
