How does the Vertex M36 wear?
Its review-reported dimensions are 36 mm across, 11 mm thick and 46.5 mm lug-to-lug, in brushed stainless steel. That compact diameter and sub-47 mm lug-to-lug measurement make the M36 a comparatively small field watch on paper. Fit still depends on wrist shape and preference, and dimensions alone cannot guarantee how it will sit on an individual wrist.
Monochrome Watches’ reviewer says he bought the watch in May 2024 and had worn it for about 18 months by the time of his December 2025 article. He describes it as comfortable and easy to wear in varied settings, with conspicuous lume and quick-glance readability. Those are one owner’s impressions, not controlled wear testing. His stated reservation was a preference for a manual-wind movement; he also thought that choice might have allowed a thinner case. Monochrome Watches’ review provides the account.
What makes the M36 a modern version of the Vertex W.W.W.?
The original Vertex W.W.W. was one of twelve makes produced to a British military specification, a group commonly nicknamed the “Dirty Dozen.” The M36 revisits that design with a black dial, Arabic numerals, small seconds and W.W.W. caseback engraving. Its modern construction includes a screw-down crown and a screwed caseback; Monochrome also reports a double-domed, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and 100 m water resistance. WatchGecko describes Vertex as the only British company among the twelve makers and reports historical figures of 4,652 Vertex Cal 59 W.W.W. watches produced, with 1,776 supplied for the D-Day landings. Those counts are figures reported by that review, not independently verified archival totals. WatchGecko’s October 2024 review gives its historical framing.
Is the dial easy to read?
The dial pairs a matte black surface with a railroad-style minute track, large sculpted luminous Arabic numerals and a small-seconds display. WatchGecko says the numerals use X1 Super-LumiNova; Monochrome specifies X1 grade C3 Super-LumiNova. The reviewers’ descriptions point to a design built for quick reading rather than a crowded, feature-heavy display.

What movement is inside?
The detailed specification lists identify the automatic calibre as the Sellita SW260-1 Top Grade. Monochrome lists 31 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 38-hour power reserve. WatchGecko’s review has a brief SW21 naming inconsistency in its prose, but its technical list also gives SW260-1. The itemized movement specification is therefore the better-supported identification in these reviews, though manufacturer documentation was not verified.
What comes with the watch?
The reviews say the M36 is supplied with an expandable steel bracelet, a sand-colored fabric over-and-under/NATO-style strap and a leather over-and-under/NATO-style strap. Monochrome lists an 18 mm lug width. Check the exact end fitting and attachment style before buying another strap: width alone does not establish compatibility with every end link or fitting.

WatchGecko’s 2024 review and Monochrome’s 2025 review both report a UK retail price of £2,150 including taxes. Monochrome also lists £1,791 excluding export taxes. The trade-offs are its automatic movement—rather than the manual-wind option preferred by Monochrome’s reviewer—and a price that should be judged against current local availability and alternatives. The cited reviews do not provide a controlled side-by-side comparison with other compact field watches, so fit, servicing support and value against a specific rival require separate checking.
