The Hemel Airfoil HF15 is a hand-wound mechanical chronograph offered in reported 40 mm and 42 mm case sizes. Its 1970s British military pilot-watch styling is paired with a ceramic rotating bezel, sapphire crystal and a stated 100 m water-resistance rating. Before choosing one, check the case size and lug width: the two versions have different strap measurements, and published movement-reserve figures conflict.
What is the Hemel Airfoil HF15?
The HF15 is a mechanical chronograph made by US watch brand Hemel. Product coverage describes its design as drawing on 1970s British military pilot watches; Time+Tide reports that it was developed through the League of Microbrands Facebook group. The watch uses a hand-wound Seagull ST19-family movement, identified as ST19 or ST1901 in different sources.
Published specifications describe a 316L stainless-steel case, double-domed sapphire crystal, ceramic rotating bezel and brown leather strap. These details come from coverage of particular versions, not a verified current official lineup.
How do the 40 mm and 42 mm versions differ?
Time+Tide reports two case options. The larger case is not simply a diameter change: its lug-to-lug length and strap width are also different, which can affect fit and strap compatibility.

| Reported specification | 40 mm version | 42 mm version |
|---|---|---|
| Case diameter | 40 mm | 42 mm |
| Case thickness | 13.4 mm | 13.4 mm |
| Lug-to-lug | 47 mm | 49 mm |
| Lug width | 20 mm | 22 mm |
Dimensions are reported by Time+Tide’s August 2024 review. A retailer page describes a 42 mm version but lists a 20 mm strap, conflicting with the review’s 22 mm lug width for that case. Check the measurement on the exact watch before ordering a replacement strap.
What movement and functions does it have?
The HF15 is hand-wound and uses a Seagull ST19/ST1901-family chronograph movement, as identified across the product coverage. Time+Tide lists hours, minutes, running seconds and chronograph functions. The sources do not establish that every version or production batch has identical regulation or specifications.

- Silver-tone watch featuring left-handed crown and black dial with 1/20-second chronograph function, slide-rotating inner bezel, and date window
- 45.5 mm stainless steel case with mineral dial window
- Quartz movement with analog display
- Stainless steel band featuring fold-over push-button clasp with safety
- Water resistant to 100 m (330 ft): In general, suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not scuba diving
Power-reserve claims differ: the 2021 announcement and Time+Tide report 45 hours, while a retailer lists 38 hours. Treat either figure as a source-specific published claim rather than a settled reserve for every HF15.
How does the bezel work?
The ceramic rotating bezel has luminous 12-hour markers in the descriptions. Time+Tide explains that it can help track a second time zone or elapsed timing. The retailer describes its version as 120-click and unidirectional; those specific details are retailer-reported rather than confirmed across all variants.

Can you swim with the HF15?
Multiple product sources state 100 m water resistance, also expressed as 10 ATM. That rating should not be taken as blanket approval for every water activity: Time+Tide specifically cautions against operating the chronograph pushers underwater. Follow the maker’s guidance for the exact watch and have its water resistance checked if its service history or condition is unknown.

Coverage has reported black, navy blue and luminous cream dial variants, but it does not establish which, if any, are currently available. Prices are historical: MasterHorologer reported $499.99 in a 2021 product announcement, and Time+Tide cited US$499 in its August 2024 review. Neither figure confirms today’s price, stock or seller status.
