The HONOR Watch 5 Ultra gets the hard-to-ignore parts right: a titanium-alloy case, artificial sapphire-glass protection, a bright AMOLED display and battery life that can stretch well beyond a week. But its “up to 15 days” claim depends on restrained settings, and its software, fitness tools and regional feature support fall short of the best Apple, Samsung and Garmin watches. It makes sense for buyers who value style and endurance over apps, navigation and advanced training—not as a universal Apple Watch Ultra or Galaxy Watch Ultra replacement.
What the HONOR Watch 5 Ultra is—and who it suits
The Watch 5 Ultra is HONOR’s premium-styled smartwatch, with a titanium-alloy case, sapphire protection, GPS and health-tracking features. It is not simply a bigger standard Watch 5: the Ultra adds more upmarket materials and a rugged design, while some advertised features vary by market. HONOR’s Malaysia product page describes its international offering; the China product page lists capabilities such as eSIM and NFC wallet functions that should not be assumed to work on every version.
- Best suited to: buyers who want a premium-looking watch, long intervals between charges and everyday wellness and workout tracking.
- Less suited to: users who need a deep app catalogue, dependable on-watch navigation, advanced training analysis, guaranteed payments or independent cellular service.
The hardware makes a stronger case than the software. Independent reviewers found the interface and smartwatch ecosystem less polished and less capable than Apple’s or Samsung’s. Wareable’s review and Android Authority’s hands-on discuss those trade-offs.
Price and availability depend on your country
Review outlets reported international launch pricing around €279, not a current universal price. The price is not evidence of local availability: HONOR lists regional buying pages for markets including the UAE and Malaysia, while a verified official U.S. price or launch was not established in the cited coverage. Wareable noted that a U.S. launch appeared unlikely; check HONOR’s UAE buying page or Malaysia buying page for current local stock and terms.

The Malaysia page displayed a promotional price from RM919.08 with a promotion code when it was crawled; that is a time-sensitive offer, not a standard or current price guarantee. Before importing, confirm that the exact regional model supports the features you want and that the seller offers suitable warranty and returns.
Design: premium materials in a large, angular case
The octagonal, 46mm case gives the watch a deliberately rugged “Ultra” look. HONOR specifies a titanium-alloy case, and independent coverage identifies it as grade 5 titanium. That does not mean the entire watch is titanium: Chinese specification material identifies a plastic or fiber-reinforced rear section. The watch weighs about 51–53g without its strap, depending on the cited specification, and comes in black and brown options on international listings. Its crown and a separate button provide physical controls.
Reviewers describe the case as light for its size and comfortable enough for sleep and exercise. The 46mm size is still a substantial fit, and there is no smaller case option, so it may feel oversized on a smaller wrist. The combination of titanium and sapphire glass lends it a more convincing premium feel than a typical budget smartwatch; it is not simply a lightweight sports band dressed up with an “Ultra” name.

Display: sharp AMOLED with sapphire protection
The 1.5-inch AMOLED panel has a 466 × 466 resolution. It delivers the saturated color and contrast expected of AMOLED, and reviewers found it readable outdoors, though not a brightness leader. HONOR’s Chinese-market material advertises up to 1,500 nits; treat that as a regional specification, not a verified figure for every international model. The display is protected by artificial sapphire glass on HONOR’s Malaysia page, a welcome choice for a watch intended for daily wear.
An always-on display keeps the time visible but is one of the clearest battery-life trade-offs. Watch faces and customization are available, though the face and app ecosystem is not as broad as on the major smartwatch platforms.
Battery life: 15 days is a best-case claim, not the default
HONOR advertises up to 15 days, but its China product page distinguishes usage scenarios: up to 15 days in long-battery Bluetooth mode, around 10 days in typical eSIM mode and about three days in standalone eSIM mode. These are manufacturer-defined scenarios, not a promise for every configuration. Independent results show why settings matter: Wareable reported up to 15 days with conservative settings and around five days with always-on display; Tech Advisor reported roughly three to five days with always-on display and more than a week with moderate use; PhoneArena got about six days with frequent GPS exercise, calls and music.

| Usage pattern | What to expect | Evidence and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Conservative Bluetooth use, limited GPS and no always-on display | Can approach the 15-day headline | HONOR’s long-battery scenario; independent result reported by Wareable. |
| Ordinary mixed use | Roughly six to ten days is a more useful expectation | Synthesis of HONOR’s scenarios and independent reviews; not a new hands-on measurement. |
| Always-on display and regular workouts | About three to five days | Tech Advisor reported this range with AOD enabled; Wareable reported around five days. |
| Frequent GPS exercise, calls and music | About six days in one demanding test | PhoneArena result; use and settings affect endurance. |
| Standalone eSIM use | About three days in HONOR’s stated scenario | China-market specification; not a universal international-model capability. |
Always-on display, continuous heart-rate or blood-oxygen monitoring, GPS workouts, Bluetooth calls, music playback, eSIM, screen brightness, notifications, sleep tracking, third-party apps and phone synchronization can all change the result. If you use several power-hungry features together, plan around days rather than the 15-day maximum.
Charging: wireless options, but bring the supplied dock
The watch comes with a proprietary charging dock and supports wireless charging. Reviewers also report reverse charging from compatible phones, and HONOR says its fast-charging dock can provide a day’s power in 10 minutes. Tech Advisor and Wareable report wireless charging compatibility, including Qi charging, but charging position and accessory fit can matter. The supplied dock is the safest option to pack for travel rather than relying on a generic charger or a phone’s reverse-charging feature.

Listed wellness features include heart rate, blood oxygen, stress, sleep duration and stages, and a Health Scan. HONOR also advertises training load, recovery, VO2 max and fitness-age estimates. These are tracking and estimation tools, not medical diagnoses. HONOR explicitly says the watch is not a medical device and that measurements are for reference on its Malaysia product page.

ECG is particularly dependent on region and eligibility. HONOR’s China ECG support page limits activation to mainland China and describes requirements involving supported phones, SIM conditions, account eligibility and the HONOR Health app. Do not buy an international or imported version on the assumption that ECG, breathing features or sleep-apnea-related functions will be available or clinically diagnostic.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fitness and GPS: fine for casual exercise, not a training authority
The watch has built-in GPS and covers common activities such as running, swimming and rowing. A review lists 100 sports modes, while Chinese material lists 105; the count therefore depends on the market or specification source. It offers route recording and estimated fitness and recovery metrics, but it does not provide the depth of training tools associated with dedicated sports watches, and full maps and navigation are not a strong point.
Independent GPS findings are mixed. Wareable found tracking adequate but reported overestimation of distance and pace-related metrics; Tech Advisor found routes generally good but reported under-recorded distance. The disagreement means GPS should be treated as usable rather than definitive: results can depend on route, satellite conditions, firmware, region and comparison device. Casual runners can use it for general activity tracking; athletes following structured plans should verify distance and training metrics against a dedicated sports watch or another trusted device before relying on them.

Smartwatch software and regional features
Core functions include notifications, Bluetooth calling through the watch’s speaker and microphone, music controls, alarms, timers, weather and phone-finding tools. The weaker point is what surrounds those basics: reviewers criticize software polish and app depth, and the watch does not match Apple or Samsung for third-party apps or navigation. Notification handling, message replies, watch-face installation and health-data synchronization can also differ between Android and iPhone, so compatibility should not be mistaken for feature parity.
Chinese-market materials advertise eSIM, NFC wallet functions, more than 40 third-party apps and wrist-based replies. Those claims do not establish that the functions are present on every international variant. NFC hardware alone does not guarantee a working payment service: PhoneArena reported NFC hardware but no corresponding wallet software in the reviewed version. eSIM likewise depends on the regional model and participating carriers. Check the exact model number, country firmware, HONOR Health app support, phone requirements and local carrier or payment availability before purchase.
Water resistance: free-diving mode is not a scuba computer
HONOR advertises a 40-meter free-diving mode and says the watch complies with EN13319 for diving accessories. Its regional specifications also cite 5ATM and IP68-related protection. These labels describe different tests and do not make the watch suitable for every water activity: 5ATM is a static-pressure rating, IP68 concerns dust and water ingress under specified conditions, and a free-diving mode is not the same as a full scuba-diving computer. Do not infer support for scuba planning, decompression guidance or unrestricted high-pressure use. Follow the instructions for the exact regional model, especially around hot tubs, saunas and salt water.
How it compares with the alternatives
| Alternative | Better fit when you need | Trade-off versus the HONOR |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Watch Ultra | An iPhone-first experience, apps, navigation, safety features and ecosystem integration. See Apple’s product family. | Apple-only compatibility and much shorter battery life. |
| Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra | Wear OS apps, Google services and a more established Android smartwatch platform. See Samsung’s product family. | Battery endurance is generally not its main advantage. |
| Garmin sports watches | Serious running, cycling, hiking, training load and navigation. See Garmin’s smartwatch lineup. | May be less attractive to shoppers seeking rich general-purpose smartwatch features. |
| Huawei Watch GT | A battery- and design-focused alternative with health and outdoor features. See Huawei’s wearables lineup. | App and payment limitations, with compatibility varying by market. |
| Amazfit | Long battery life and broad feature lists, often at lower prices. See Amazfit’s lineup. | HONOR may be more appealing if titanium-and-sapphire construction is the priority; value and sports features depend on the specific model. |
| HONOR Watch 6 | Endurance at the forefront: HONOR’s global lineup advertises a claimed 35-day battery life. See the HONOR wearables lineup. | The Watch 5 Ultra is the more relevant choice if you specifically want its titanium case, sapphire protection and Ultra styling. |
Final verdict: buy for endurance and materials, not ecosystem depth
The HONOR Watch 5 Ultra is a convincing battery-first smartwatch with premium-looking materials and useful everyday tracking. Its limitations are just as important: software and app support are comparatively thin, GPS results are not fully consistent, and features such as ECG, eSIM and payments depend on region and model. Buy it if the long battery life and titanium-and-sapphire design matter more than apps, navigation and advanced sport metrics—and only after confirming local feature support and warranty. For buyers who want a mature smartwatch platform or serious training tools, Apple, Samsung or Garmin is the safer category fit.
