The Horage Tourbillon 1 is a hand-wound Swiss watch built around the K-TOU flying tourbillon calibre. Horage’s published starting price was CHF 7,490 before VAT and shipping, but that is historical page-listed pricing, not a current offer: the manufacturer currently marks orders closed. Its compact stated dimensions, long claimed power reserve and silicon escapement make it an unusual proposition in this price bracket, with important qualifications around reserve figures, certification and availability.

What is the Horage Tourbillon 1?

It is a mechanical wristwatch whose central time display is paired with a flying tourbillon: the escapement and balance rotate in a cage rather than remaining fixed. Horage calls it “A tourbillon for today and the next generation of watch lovers.” The watch uses the company’s manually wound K-TOU calibre, with central hours and minutes and seconds indicated by the cage’s rotation.

Horage’s product page currently says orders are closed. The price figures discussed below therefore describe published historical or page-listed amounts, not a watch that can be assumed to be available new at those prices.

Horage Tourbillon 1 specifications

Specification Published details
Movement Horage K-TOU, hand-wound, 19 jewels
Frequency 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour)
Power reserve Horage states more than 120 hours; the GPHG entry lists 100 hours. These are different published figures, not a single reconciled specification.
Tourbillon Flying cage making one revolution in 60 seconds; its rotation indicates seconds
Case 904L stainless steel or solid 18k gold; steel finish options include polished or brushed
Dimensions 39 mm case body; 41 mm top ring; 47.8 mm lug-to-lug; 11.8 mm thick overall, or 10.8 mm excluding glass; 22 mm lug width
Water resistance 100 m stated by Horage and GPHG
Configuration GPHG describes more than 160 configurable options, including case finish, movement colors, straps, deployant buckle and optional chronometer certification

The dimension terminology matters: Horage distinguishes a 39 mm case body from a 41 mm top ring, while GPHG records a 41 mm diameter. The larger figure is therefore not necessarily a contradiction; the sources describe different measurement points.

Honored with the 2022 German Design Award for its exceptional design, this tourbillon is globally limited to 100 pieces.
  • The entire watch case is crafted from 5N (99.999%) high-purity sapphire crystal; 5N-grade sapphire crystal boasts a Mohs 9 hardness rating (second only to diamond) and exceptional transparency. Its superior hardness renders the case scratch and wear resistant, ensuring a flawless, long-lasting finish that stands the test of time. High transparency enables us to clearly appreciate the mechanical artistry of the ultimate skeletonized flying tourbillon.
  • Self developed design CAL9001 free-sprung balance flying tourbillon movement, manual winding, 28,880 vibrations/hour, 25 ruby bearings. Satin brushed finish and chamfered edges with premium finishing techniques; Brand logo engraved and gold foiled. K-TOU: hand-winding, tourbillon and silicon

How the display works

The K-TOU is a manual-wind movement. Hours and minutes appear at the center, while the tourbillon cage completes a stated 60-second rotation and serves as the seconds indication. It runs at 3.5 Hz, or 25,200 vibrations per hour.

Power reserve: two published figures

Horage’s product material claims more than 120 hours—over five days—while the GPHG entry gives 100 hours. The available published information does not resolve why those figures differ, so it is more accurate to retain the attribution than to treat the higher number as independently established.

Silicon escapement and manufacturing claims

Horage says the movement uses its own “20.3” silicon escapement geometry and claims an efficiency advantage. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent comparative measurement established here. GPHG describes 99.8% of the tourbillon calibre’s parts as coming from Switzerland. Horage’s later Lensman page says three silicon parts are made in Germany and the rest of K-TOU is engineered and manufactured in Switzerland. Those statements use different formulations and contexts; neither should be broadened into a claim that every component is Swiss-made.

Horage says its engineering, research and development, machining and assembly take place at its Biel/Bienne facility. Its watchmaking page says development can take 3–5 years for a new manufacture movement and 7–10 years for a high-performance production movement; these are descriptions of its development timelines, not a stated Tourbillon 1 production duration.

Case size, materials and everyday considerations

The stated 39 mm case body and 47.8 mm lug-to-lug give the watch relatively restrained dimensions for a tourbillon, while the top ring measures 41 mm. Its 11.8 mm total thickness includes the glass; Horage also gives 10.8 mm excluding it. The 22 mm lug width is useful when looking for replacement straps, but it does not guarantee that a generic strap will fit the watch’s proprietary deployant buckle or end attachment. Confirm both interfaces before buying.

Horage and GPHG state 100 m water resistance. That is the published rating, not evidence here of testing under particular conditions or a recommendation for any specific water activity.

What did the Tourbillon 1 cost?

There is no confirmed current transaction price in the available published information, and Horage marks orders closed. The historical figures show why the watch was described as a sub-10k tourbillon, but they need currency and tax context:

Source and context Published price
Horage K-TOU product/configuration material; starting price, before VAT and shipping CHF 7,490
GPHG entry; base price excluding VAT CHF 7,490
GPHG entry; Grey/Blue submitted example, including VAT CHF 8,335
Horage configuration page; optional COSC upgrade listed in limited numbers CHF 300

These are page-listed historical amounts, not proof of present orderability, a resale value, or what a particular buyer paid. The “under 10k” framing refers to Swiss francs in these sources; it does not establish a sub-US$10,000 price.

COSC certification is not automatic

Horage says its movements are adjusted to a target of -4/+6 seconds per day and describes COSC certification as an optional upgrade. A stated adjustment target is not the same thing as a COSC certificate. GPHG likewise lists chronometer certification among the configurable options. Do not assume every Tourbillon 1 received certification; confirmation for a specific example requires its documentation.

How to assess one if you are considering it

The central appeal is a Swiss hand-wound flying tourbillon paired with a 39 mm stated case body, silicon escapement components and a long power-reserve claim, at a historically low listed starting price for this kind of complication. The decision also depends on details that the headline price cannot answer:

  • Availability and price: Horage currently marks orders closed, and the published prices are not current offers. Any specific watch’s asking price needs to be assessed on its own terms.
  • Configuration: case material and finish, dial or movement color, strap and buckle options vary; confirm what is included on the exact example.
  • Certification: verify whether the individual watch has COSC documentation rather than inferring it from the movement’s adjustment target.
  • Condition and ownership history: the published sources do not establish long-term reliability, service cost or owner experience. Those need separate verification for a pre-owned example.
  • Strap fit: the stated 22 mm lug width is a starting point, but check the attachment and proprietary deployant buckle before ordering a replacement.

Published specifications support an explanation of Horage’s own claims, but not a head-to-head ranking against other tourbillons. A fair comparison should use the same criteria for each watch: winding type, reserve and its source, case dimensions, water-resistance rating, materials, what “in-house” means in context, certification status, tax-inclusive price and date, and actual availability.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
