There is no single worldwide price for servicing an A. Lange & Söhne watch. The clearest published benchmark is the manufacturer’s Germany tariff marked May 2022: a complete movement service is €1,100–€4,200 for groups 1–5, while movement service plus case work is €1,700–€5,050. The most complicated group is priced on request. These are recommended retail prices including German VAT, not a guaranteed 2026 quotation.
Your exact bill depends mainly on the reference and complication, whether the work is a normal-wear overhaul or damage restoration, and whether the case, crystal, bracelet, dial, hands or other parts need attention. Request a current written estimate through an authorized Lange boutique or dealer before authorizing work.

What does an A. Lange & Söhne service cost?
The official Germany schedule divides watches into six price groups. Groups 1–5 have published prices; group 6 requires an individual quote. The figures below are Lange Uhren GmbH recommended retail prices, including VAT, from a tariff marked May 2022. They are a transparent benchmark, not a fixed worldwide price for October 2026.
| Price group | Representative families in the tariff | Movement only | Movement plus case |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Saxonia Thin, Saxonia without Date, 1815, Grand 1815, 1815 Moon Phase, Richard Lange | €1,100 | €1,700 |
| 2 | Lange 1, Lange 1A, Grand Lange 1, Saxonia Automatic, Saxonia with Date, Langematik, Arkade, Cabaret | €1,300 | €1,900 |
| 3 | Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase, Lange 1 Daymatic, Lange 1 Time Zone, Saxonia Dual Time, Odysseus and comparable models listed by Lange | €1,400 | €2,000 |
| 4 | Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar, Datograph, Datograph Up/Down, Langematik Perpetual, 1815 Annual Calendar and 1815 Chronograph | €2,200 | €3,050 |
| 5 | Lange 1 Tourbillon, Zeitwerk, Datograph Perpetual, Lange 31, Double Split, Triple Split, 1815 Tourbillon and comparable high complications | €4,200 | €5,050 |
| 6 | Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar, Zeitwerk Minute Repeater, Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon, Tourbograph and other top complications | On request | On request |
The practical takeaway is that complication, not simply case material or retail value, drives the published movement price. A basic 1815 or Saxonia falls in the €1,100 group, a standard Lange 1 in the €1,300 group, and a Zeitwerk or tourbillon-level watch can be €4,200 before any case work. Adding the listed case option raises the bands by €600–€850 in groups 1–5.

Because the schedule is German and dated May 2022, exchange rates, local taxes, shipping and later tariff changes can alter what a boutique quotes elsewhere. A boutique or authorized dealer should confirm the current regional price for the exact reference.

Lange 1 and related models
The ordinary Lange 1, Lange 1A and Grand Lange 1 appear in group 2 at €1,300 for movement service or €1,900 with the listed case service. More elaborate versions move upward: Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase, Lange 1 Daymatic and Lange 1 Time Zone are in group 3 (€1,400 or €2,000), while Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar is in group 4 (€2,200 or €3,050). Lange 1 Tourbillon is in group 5 (€4,200 or €5,050), and Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar is group 6, on request.
Zeitwerk
The Zeitwerk is listed in group 5, so the published benchmark is €4,200 for movement-only service and €5,050 with case work. A Zeitwerk Minute Repeater is in group 6 and has no published tariff figure.
Datograph and split-seconds chronographs
Datograph and Datograph Up/Down are group 4 (€2,200 movement-only; €3,050 with case). Datograph Perpetual, Double Split and Triple Split are group 5 (€4,200; €5,050), while Datograph Perpetual Tourbillon is group 6 and requires an individual estimate.
Entry-level and simpler families
Saxonia Thin, Saxonia without Date, 1815, Grand 1815, 1815 Moon Phase and Richard Lange are group 1. Saxonia Automatic, Saxonia with Date, Langematik, Arkade and Cabaret are group 2. Odysseus and the other models named in the group 3 line use that group’s €1,400 movement or €2,000 movement-plus-case benchmark.

What is included in a complete Lange service?
A complete movement service is an overhaul for normal wear. Lange’s tariff describes the following work:
- Complete disassembly of the movement.
- Cleaning and inspection for wear or damage.
- Replacement of regularly wearing movement parts when needed.
- Lubrication and reassembly.
- Function inspection and precision adjustment in five positions.
- Replacement of all gaskets.
- Rate-accuracy and power-reserve checks.
Case intervention is a separate scope. Depending on the estimate, it can include complete case and buckle refurbishment, sapphire-crystal replacement and water-resistance testing. “Movement plus case” therefore does not mean every possible exterior replacement is automatically included; ask the boutique to list each operation.
Strap or metal-bracelet work, replacement dials, hands, displays, modules, crystals and other defective components can add charges. The quote should distinguish included seals and testing from optional cosmetic work and from parts that are discovered only after disassembly.
When does a repair cost more than a routine overhaul?
An overhaul addresses expected wear. Impact, moisture ingress or a defective component is treated as repair or restoration and uses a different price band or an individual estimate.

These are also Germany recommended retail prices including VAT from the May 2022 Lange tariff. They are not surcharges added to the normal-service table; they are restoration price groups for watches requiring more extensive corrective work.
After inspection, the service center may identify worn or damaged parts that were not visible at intake. Lange states that necessary work may not be declined when omitting it would prevent the service guarantee. Aesthetic case refurbishment is often optional, so ask which line items are required for reliable operation and which are appearance choices.

How often should a Lange watch be serviced, and how long does it take?
A. Lange & Söhne recommends an overhaul every five to seven years. The interval is a maintenance recommendation, not a promise that every watch will show the same symptoms at the same time; water exposure, impact, storage and use can make an earlier inspection sensible.
The manufacturer says a normal service usually takes about 12 weeks plus shipping. Complex models usually take about 15 weeks plus transport. The watch is disassembled, cleaned and tested for accuracy, functions and water resistance for several days, up to one week, before quality controls are completed and it is returned. A restoration, parts order or international transport can extend the calendar time beyond those standard figures.

- The boutique or dealer records the reference and reported problem and sends the watch through an authorized channel.
- The service center examines the watch and prepares a scope and estimate, separating normal overhaul work from restoration or optional case work.
- After authorization, the movement is dismantled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated, reassembled and adjusted in five positions.
- Gaskets and approved wearing parts are replaced; case, crystal, buckle or bracelet operations are performed only if included in the approved scope.
- The completed watch undergoes accuracy, function, power-reserve and water-resistance checks over several days before final quality control.
Where can you send an A. Lange & Söhne watch?
The manufacturer describes an authorized Lange boutique or dealer as the easiest intake route. Watches built since 1990 are accepted for repair or overhaul. Parts may be ordered only by Lange service centers or its limited set of authorized service partners, because improper opening can seriously damage the movement.
For a high-complication watch, the authorized route also gives you a documented chain of custody, an itemized estimate and the manufacturer’s stated service guarantee. Before shipping, ask the receiving location whether it handles your exact reference, whether transport is insured, which currency and tax apply, and whether the lead time starts at intake or after estimate approval.
What warranty applies after service?
Lange states that a watch has a 24-month guarantee from purchase. A purchase registered through a Lange boutique receives an additional one-year boutique guarantee. Maintenance or repair performed outside the original guarantee receives a new 24-month guarantee. The paperwork for your service should state the applicable guarantee and any exclusions.
How should you compare two service quotes?
Two totals are comparable only when they cover the same scope, reference and geography. Use this checklist when a boutique, dealer or authorized partner presents an estimate:

There is no published Lange worldwide average. For a non-official budgeting reference, U.S. retailer Grand Caliber gives approximate ranges of $1,200–$1,800 for standard time-only models, $1,500–$2,200 for Lange 1, and $2,500–$4,000 or more for complicated references. Those are retailer estimates, not Lange tariffs, and they do not replace an authorized quote.
Secondary published figures also vary by date and scope. A WatchTime table dated September 7, 2023 lists recommended prices of €1,100 for 1815/Saxonia examples and €1,700 for Lange 1-family examples, describing movement revision, case or clasp work and seals; dealers may change those prices. An older Fratello comparison reported €765 for overhaul-only and €1,340 with case polishing and strap replacement for listed Lange 1-family watches. Neither source is a current universal tariff.
One 2026 owner report described a U.S. restoration estimate of about $3,200 for required work plus $620 for optional case intervention, roughly $4,000 with tax, and about 22 weeks. It is a single anecdotal case, so it should be treated as an example of how damage and optional exterior work can change a bill, not as a typical price.
Can a watch winder reduce service needs?
Lange says owners who rarely wear an automatic watch may rotate it on a watch winder to help maintain lubrication. A winder is a storage accessory, not a substitute for the recommended five-to-seven-year overhaul, water-resistance checks or repair of impact and moisture damage. Manual-wind and complicated watches should follow the instructions supplied for their specific movement.
How do you request an accurate estimate?
Give the authorized intake point the reference, movement number if available, purchase and service history, symptoms, known impacts or moisture exposure, and your preferred level of case refurbishment. Ask for two totals if necessary: the required movement or restoration work and the optional case, crystal, bracelet or cosmetic work. This makes the €1,100–€5,050 Germany benchmark easier to compare with the actual scope proposed for your watch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Lange service price the same in every country?
No. The published figures are a Germany tariff including VAT and marked May 2022. Regional taxes, currency, shipping and later tariff changes mean an authorized boutique must confirm the amount for your location.
Can I refuse polishing while approving the mechanical overhaul?
Often, yes: cosmetic case refurbishment is generally optional, while work needed to complete the service guarantee may be required. Have the estimate identify appearance-related operations separately before you approve it.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Will opening the watch at an unauthorized shop affect parts availability?
Lange says parts may be ordered only by its service centers or authorized service partners and warns that improper opening can seriously damage the movement. Using an authorized intake route avoids that parts and handling problem.
Does an automatic watch need to stay on a winder between services?
No. Lange presents a winder as an option for owners who rarely wear an automatic watch, mainly to help maintain lubrication. It does not replace scheduled overhaul or inspection for water and impact damage.
Why can a restoration estimate be much higher than the normal service band?
Restoration covers corrective work after conditions such as impact or water ingress, rather than ordinary wear. Damaged components, crystals, modules, dials, hands, bracelets or other parts can require additional charges or an individual estimate.
