The phone should play a ringtone so you can follow the sound. The watch must be able to reach the phone through Bluetooth or, where supported, a remote Wi-Fi or LTE connection.
This is a recovery tool, not a guarantee. Battery level, network access, Samsung account settings, permissions, watch compatibility, and the phone’s location all affect what you can do.
Find your Samsung phone from your Galaxy Watch
- Press the watch’s Home button.
- Open Samsung Find from the app list. Tap Continue and approve any requested permissions if prompted.
- Select the missing phone.
- Check the displayed location, if one is available.
- Tap the phone-shaped Ring icon.
- When you find the phone, tap Stop or swipe down on the watch’s dismissal control.
Samsung’s current instructions are documented in its Galaxy Watch phone-finding support guide. App names and screen labels can differ by watch model, region, phone software, and app version.
What connection does the watch need?
For a phone misplaced in your home, car, office, or nearby outdoor area, Bluetooth is usually the simplest route. If the watch and phone are no longer within Bluetooth range, the watch may still communicate with the phone through a remote connection over Wi-Fi or LTE, provided both devices and their accounts are configured for it.

A Wi-Fi-connected watch does not automatically relay a signal to a phone that is offline. The phone must still be reachable through its own network or a supported finding mechanism. If the watch has no connection to the phone or Samsung’s service, it cannot instantly send a Ring command.
If Samsung Find cannot find the phone
1. Check the watch connection
Confirm that the watch is powered on and connected through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or LTE. If it was recently unpaired, open Galaxy Wearable on the phone when possible and verify the pairing.
2. Look for Samsung Find
Open the watch’s app list and search for Samsung Find. If it is missing, update the watch software and relevant Samsung apps when possible. Older watches may instead show Find My Phone or a different interface.

3. Try Samsung’s web services
From another phone or computer, open either Samsung Find or SmartThings Find. Sign in with the Samsung account associated with the missing phone, select the phone, and use Ring, location, tracking, locking, or erasure tools where available.

4. Try Google Find Hub
Google Find Hub is an additional Android route. It can locate, ring, lock, or erase a phone when the required Google account and device settings were enabled.
What happens when the phone is offline or switched off?
A phone that is powered off or has an empty battery cannot be treated as continuously trackable or remotely ringable. Samsung says that, in such cases, SmartThings Find may show only the phone’s last known location.

Offline finding can improve the chance of recovering a device when ordinary network connectivity is unavailable, subject to Samsung’s supported-device and settings requirements. It does not turn the phone into a cellular tracker, guarantee a live GPS position, or overcome a depleted battery.
If the phone has moved, treat the map pin as the latest available position rather than proof of its current location. Samsung may offer Track location, which can request updates at intervals such as every 15 minutes in supported situations; it is not guaranteed live tracking.

- Add and sign in to a Samsung account.
- In Samsung Find or SmartThings, confirm that the phone appears in the device list.
- Enable the option to Allow this phone to be found, where available.
- Turn on Remote controls.
- Enable Send last location.
- Enable Offline finding.
- Keep the phone powered on and connected to a network.
- Test the Ring command before you misplace the phone.
Samsung’s SmartThings Find requirements explain that remote finding generally depends on power, network access, a Samsung account, and enabled remote controls. Exact menu paths vary, so look for these controls in the device-finding settings rather than relying on one universal label.
Samsung Find, SmartThings Find, and Google Find Hub

Samsung currently documents both Samsung Find and SmartThings Find. They overlap, but their interfaces and availability can differ. Use whichever service appears on your phone, watch, or browser.

The main Samsung Find workflow is intended for supported modern Galaxy Watches, especially Galaxy Watch4 and newer Wear OS models. Samsung’s current compatibility guidance lists these general phone requirements:

Samsung says support can vary by region, carrier, phone brand, and model. A Galaxy Watch paired with a non-Samsung Android phone may have limited manufacturer-specific features. Older Tizen-based watches may use a different Find My Phone experience, so check the support page for the exact watch model.
Modern Wear OS Galaxy Watches—including the Watch4, Watch5, Watch6, Watch7, Watch FE, and Watch Ultra—are not compatible with iPhone under Samsung’s current guidance. See Samsung’s Galaxy Watch compatibility information for model-specific details.
If the phone may have been stolen
Do not travel to an unfamiliar map location or confront whoever may have the phone. Samsung advises users not to go directly to a stolen device’s mapped location; contact local authorities instead.
- Use Lock or Lost mode if available.
- Display a contact message or alternate phone number where the service allows it.
- Contact your mobile carrier about suspending service or blocking the device.
- Change important account passwords if you cannot secure the phone.
- Use Erase data only after considering whether recovery is still possible, because erasure can end some location and recovery options.
Ringing is for a nearby misplaced phone. Location is the latest available position. Tracking may provide periodic updates where supported. Locking protects access, while erasing is a last-resort data-protection step.

Do you need to buy a Galaxy Watch?
No. If you already own a compatible watch, enable Samsung Find and test it. If your only goal is recovering a phone, Samsung Find, SmartThings Find, or Google Find Hub can provide the necessary tools from another device without buying a watch.
A Galaxy Watch7 or Watch8 may be a reasonable choice if you also want a smartwatch. LTE can give the watch more independent connectivity, but it does not guarantee that a powered-off, dead, or unreachable phone can be found. A more expensive Watch8 Classic or Watch Ultra does not make this particular recovery function intrinsically more reliable than the same feature on a compatible lower-cost model.
