Yes—you can make a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone ring from a Galaxy Watch. On the watch, open Samsung Find, choose your phone, and tap the phone-shaped Ring icon. This works most reliably when the phone is nearby and connected over Bluetooth, but a remote Wi-Fi or LTE connection may also work when the required Samsung services and settings are enabled.
The watch is primarily a convenient nearby-phone finder, not a guaranteed long-distance GPS tracker. If the phone is offline, powered off, out of battery, or unreachable, use Samsung Find or SmartThings Find from another device.
What you need before you start
- A compatible Galaxy Watch and phone, ideally a recent Galaxy Watch paired with a Samsung Galaxy phone.
- A Samsung account signed in on the phone and required finding services enabled.
- A working Bluetooth connection, or remote Wi-Fi/LTE connectivity where supported.
- Power on the phone and, for remote functions, an active internet connection.
Samsung’s current support pages use the names Samsung Find and SmartThings Find. Older guides may refer to Find My Mobile or Find My Phone. App names, menus, and availability can vary by watch model, phone, region, carrier, and software version.
See Samsung’s current phone-finding instructions for the latest model-specific details.

How to find your phone from a Samsung Watch
- Press the Home button on the Galaxy Watch.
- Open Samsung Find from the app list.
- Tap Continue if prompted and grant the requested permissions.
- Select your phone from the device list.
- Tap the phone-shaped Ring icon.
- Follow the ringtone or alert to the phone.
When you find it, swipe down on Dismiss or tap Stop on the watch to end the alert. The phone should play an alert sound on supported configurations, although exact behavior can vary by phone model, software, sound mode, and connection state.
Does the phone need Bluetooth?
No—not always. Bluetooth is the simplest path when the phone is nearby: under a sofa cushion, in a bag, in a car, or in another room. Do not rely on a fixed distance, because walls, interference, phone placement, and radio conditions affect practical range.
A watch may also reach the phone through a remote connection when the watch has Wi-Fi or active mobile data and the phone is powered on and connected to the internet. An LTE watch alone is not enough; it needs an activated plan, coverage, battery power, compatible software, and the correct Samsung account and permissions.
If neither Bluetooth nor a working remote connection is available, the watch may show an unavailable or stale status and the Ring command may fail.

If Samsung Find is missing from the watch
An absent Samsung Find icon does not necessarily mean the watch is defective. Check the following:
- Install or update Samsung Find through the watch’s app store, if available.
- Update the watch, phone, Galaxy Wearable, and relevant Samsung apps.
- Confirm that the watch is still paired in Galaxy Wearable.
- Sign in to the expected Samsung account on the phone.
- Open the watch’s full app list rather than looking only in a shortcut or quick panel.
- Check whether the specific watch and phone combination supports the feature.
Samsung documents support across multiple watch families, including Galaxy Watch8, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch7, Watch6, Watch5, Watch4, Watch3, Galaxy Watch Active2, Galaxy Watch, and Galaxy Watch Active. Exact support can still vary by software and region. Samsung’s compatibility guidance and U.K. support page provide additional regional detail.
What if the watch cannot find the phone?
- Check the watch’s Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or mobile-data status.
- Confirm that the phone is powered on and may still have battery.
- Try Samsung Find or SmartThings Find in a browser on another phone, tablet, or computer.
- Sign in with the Samsung account associated with the missing phone.
- Select the phone and check the map and the time of its last update.
- Use Ring if available. If the phone may be stolen, use Lock before attempting recovery.
Samsung’s SmartThings Find guidance describes remote locating, ringing, locking, tracking, and erasing options for supported devices and setups. A map location may be the last known location rather than a live position, so check its timestamp.
Silent mode, Do Not Disturb, and a phone you cannot hear
Tap Ring rather than relying on a normal phone call. Samsung’s finding service is designed to produce an alert on supported devices, even when the phone would otherwise be difficult to hear. However, sound behavior is not identical across every model and software version.

If there is no audible alert, search likely places methodically: under furniture, inside bags, in vehicles, and near charging spots. Call from another number, listen for vibration, look for the screen lighting up, and use the web service to refresh the location or lock the phone with a visible contact message.
Dead, powered-off, or offline phones
Phone is disconnected but still powered on
The phone may still be reachable through Samsung Find if it reconnects to the internet. Otherwise, the watch cannot necessarily deliver a new Ring command until a connection returns.
Phone is powered off or has a dead battery
A phone with no power cannot receive a new ring command. Samsung Find may show its last known location. Offline-finding information may be available on supported devices when it was enabled beforehand, but do not treat that as guaranteed live tracking.
Check the last update time and retrace your recent route. Samsung notes that powered-off devices may provide only their last known location through SmartThings Find. The watch cannot magically locate a phone regardless of distance or battery state.

Set up phone finding before you lose the phone
On the Galaxy phone, open Settings → Security and privacy → Lost device protection, where available. Samsung says labels and screens can differ by model, carrier, and software version. Look for these controls:
- Allow this phone to be found
- Send last location
- Offline finding
Also verify that:
- Your Samsung account is signed in.
- Samsung Find or SmartThings Find has the necessary location permissions.
- The phone has a screen lock.
- The watch remains paired in Galaxy Wearable.
- The watch is updated.
- Wi-Fi or LTE works on the watch if you expect remote watch-based finding.
These settings improve your chances of finding the phone, but they cannot make a dead or permanently disconnected device respond in real time.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the phone may have been stolen
Do not treat ringing as a theft-recovery strategy. Use Samsung Find or SmartThings Find to:
- Lock the phone remotely.
- Display a return message or contact number, if the option is offered.
- Review the location and its timestamp.
- Contact your carrier to suspend service if appropriate.
- Change important account passwords if you believe the phone or accounts may be compromised.
- Report the theft to law enforcement.
Do not confront someone based solely on a map location. A location can be approximate or outdated.

Can a Galaxy Watch find a non-Samsung Android phone?
The procedure is most reliable with a Galaxy Watch paired to a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone. Support for other Android brands depends on the watch generation, Galaxy Wearable support, Samsung account integration, and software. Samsung’s official documentation is centered on Galaxy devices, so do not assume that every Samsung watch can find every Android phone or that all watch-side controls will appear.
How to find a lost Galaxy Watch from your phone
This is the reverse procedure. Open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find on the phone, select the watch, and use Ring or Vibrate when available. You can also review its map location and refresh the device status. Samsung documents this process in its guide to finding a lost Galaxy Watch.
Should you buy a watch just to find your phone?
Usually, no. Existing Samsung phone owners may already have the required finding service without purchasing additional hardware. A current watch can make the nearby Ring command convenient, but a more expensive model does not automatically make that basic function better.
For example, the Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra support broader watch features and, on applicable models, remote connectivity. Their usefulness should be judged by fitness, navigation, durability, battery, and LTE needs—not phone finding alone. Prices and availability change, so consult Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 purchase page or Galaxy Watch Ultra purchase page for current information.
A SmartTag2 can complement phone-finding services by tracking a bag, keys, or luggage, but it is not a replacement for Samsung Find on the phone and only helps with the item to which it is attached.
