Open Find My on another Apple device or sign in at iCloud.com/find, select your Apple Watch under Devices, and check its current or last known location. If it appears nearby, use Play Sound; if it cannot be located, turn on Notify When Found and mark it as lost to lock it and display contact details. Try to locate the watch or play a sound before erasing it, because erasure removes those Find My options.
Find your Apple Watch
- Open the watch’s Find My record. On an iPhone, open Find My, tap Devices, and select the Apple Watch. You can also use the Watch app on the paired iPhone: tap My Watch, then All Watches, tap the information button beside the watch, and choose Find My Apple Watch. Or sign in at iCloud.com/find.
- Check the map and its status. Find My may show a current or last known location. If a location is available, use Directions to get there. An offline or unavailable watch may not have a live location.
- If it is nearby, play a sound. Select Play Sound. Apple says the sound on an online device begins after a short delay and plays for about two minutes.
- If it is not currently locatable, enable Notify When Found. Allow Find My notifications so you can be notified if the watch is located.
- Protect it while you continue searching. Turn on Lost Mode, also called Mark As Lost in some interfaces. Add a phone number or message if you want a finder to be able to contact you.
Find My must have been enabled before the watch was lost for this locating workflow to work. Apple’s instructions are available in Apple’s Apple Watch guide and its Find My guide for iPhone.
What the map and sound status mean
The map may show the watch’s last known location, not its current position. A location pin is not necessarily a live reading, and it does not identify an exact room, object, or person. Use the location as a starting point for your search.
- Online: the watch can communicate with Find My. If it appears nearby, try Play Sound.
- Offline or unavailable: Find My may not have a current location. It may show a last known location instead.
- Sound Pending: the sound request is waiting because the watch is offline. Apple says it plays when the watch reconnects to Wi-Fi or cellular.
If Find My has no location, turn on Notify When Found and keep notifications allowed. Apple says you will be notified when the device is located.

Use Lost Mode to protect the watch
Lost Mode locks the Apple Watch with its passcode and suspends Apple Pay payment cards. You can add a contact number and message for a finder. If the watch is offline, the contact details appear when it comes back online.
If you believe the watch was stolen, do not confront someone based on a map location. Find My’s location does not establish who has the watch. Use a safe recovery route and contact local authorities when appropriate.

Wait before erasing the watch
Keep trying to locate the watch or play a sound before erasing it. Apple warns: “Before you erase your device, try to locate it or play a sound on it. After you erase it, you can’t use Find My to do either.”
If the watch is lost or stolen, you can also remove Wallet payment cards through your Apple Account device settings or contact the card issuers. Do not erase the watch while recovery is still possible, because erasure ends Find My location and sound actions.

Why Find My might not locate the watch
Find My must have been turned on before the watch went missing. A watch without connectivity may not appear as a live target, and the map can show only its last known location. Apple notes that feature availability can vary by country or region, and menu labels or available functions can vary with device and software version.

Can an AirTag locate a missing Apple Watch?
No. An AirTag is a separate item tracker; it does not attach to or locate an Apple Watch that is already missing. There is no physical product that directly substitutes for using Find My to recover the watch.

Can I find my Apple Watch without its paired iPhone?

What does Sound Pending mean?
It means the Apple Watch is offline and the sound request is waiting. Apple says the sound plays when the watch reconnects to Wi-Fi or cellular.
What should I do if Find My has no location?
Turn on Notify When Found and allow Find My notifications. Mark the watch as lost to lock it and display contact details while you continue trying to recover it.
Should I erase a lost Apple Watch?
Not while you are still trying to find it. Apple says to try locating the watch or playing a sound first; after erasing, Find My cannot be used for either.
Will an AirTag find my missing Apple Watch?
No. An AirTag tracks itself as an item and cannot be added after the fact to locate a missing Apple Watch.
