Identify the watch’s exact module number before buying a battery or gasket. Casio does not specify one universal cell for every watch carrying the Casio name; its guidance is to use the type listed in the model’s User’s Guide or specifications.
Read the case back and record the module
Copy the model and module markings from the case back before removing anything. The module number is the key reference for finding the correct battery type, the correct reset procedure, and the relevant case-back instructions. Keep the new battery and gasket matched to the module and case. A gasket that looks similar is not evidence that it is the correct part, and a case that closes flush is not evidence that it is airtight.

- Close the battery holder. The holder must be returned to its operating position before the electrical reset.
- Perform the AC reset. Touch the AC contact and the battery-positive side with metallic tweezers, exactly as the module manual directs. Skipping this step can leave the module in an undefined state even when the new cell is installed.
- Replace and secure the case back. Before closing, have the gasket inspected and replaced if required by its condition or service interval. Tighten the back using the case’s specified method.
- Check the display. Confirm that the module starts and that the display behaves as described in its manual. This confirms an electrical response, not an airtight seal.
Do not generalize the screw layout, holder design, or AC contact location from this procedure to another module. The module number is what tells you which manual and reset sequence apply.

Why doesn’t a working display prove water resistance?
A display check answers an electrical question: did the module start after the battery was installed and reset? It does not answer the physical question: can the closed case withstand the watch’s rated water exposure?
Casio’s module manual states: “Absence of the ‘OPEn’ message does not necessarily indicate an air-tight seal. Other tests are required to check for air tightness.” In other words, an opening or closure indication is not a pressure test. The case can appear correctly closed while a gasket is damaged, displaced, aged, contaminated, or otherwise unable to maintain the seal.

Casio generally warns against operating buttons or crowns while wet or submerged, except where the diver model’s casing guidance permits it. Baths, saunas, hot pools, and detergent exposure can reduce water-resistance performance even when the watch has not been opened recently.

Reusing an old gasket without asking about its service interval
Problem: The case closes, but the aged gasket no longer provides reliable sealing.
Recovery: Ask the service provider to inspect or replace it. Casio’s general interval is about two or three years, and its diver guidance is about two years.
Using the watch despite fogging
Problem: Condensation or visible moisture appears under the crystal after the battery change.
Recovery: Stop using the watch and take it to the original retailer or an authorized CASIO service center. Continued operation can leave the watch exposed to the moisture that the seal was meant to exclude.
